Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Transport in Uyo: keke and bus fares explained

Getting around Uyo: keke, taxi, bus and ride-hailing, labelled example fares on main routes, what pushes fares up and a monthly budget.

The short answer

Uyo's transport runs mainly on shared keke, plus taxis, minibuses and ride-hailing cars, and no authority publishes fares: operators set them and raise them with fuel prices. In our labelled example, a shared keke ride costs ₦300 to ₦500, a charter about ₦1,500, and a worker taking four rides a day needs about ₦40,480 a month including a buffer. The NBS national average city bus fare was ₦1,431.25 in May 2026.

Getting around Uyo mostly means a tricycle, known everywhere as a keke, with taxis, minibuses and ride-hailing cars filling the gaps. Fares are not published by any authority: they are set by operators, rise with fuel prices, and change with time of day, rain and distance. This guide explains how each mode works, gives labelled examples of fares, outlines the main routes, and shows how to budget a month of commuting.

The main ways to get around

Keke (tricycle)
The workhorse of Uyo's streets. Shared drops along fixed routes, or a charter (a 'drop') for one passenger or group at a higher price.
Taxi
Shared or chartered cars on main roads, useful for longer trips and luggage.
Minibus
Cheaper per kilometre on long straight routes and to nearby towns.
Ride-hailing
App-booked cars with the price shown before you ride; dearer but predictable, and useful at night.
Motorcycle (okada)
Subject to restrictions in parts of the state; check current rules before relying on it.

Restrictions on motorcycles and tricycles are used as a security measure in Akwa Ibom. In March 2021, for example, the state restricted both from 6pm to 7am in the three local government areas of Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency until further notice (The Guardian, March 2021). Rules in Uyo itself can change, so check current announcements before planning late trips.

Labelled example fares

The figures below are labelled examples to show how fares compare, not a published tariff. Ask the driver before you board; prices change with fuel costs.

Trip (example)ModeFare (example)
Short hop within a neighbourhoodKeke, shared₦300
Across town on a main road, for example along Oron Road or Abak RoadKeke, shared₦500
Town to the UNIUYO main campus on Nwaniba RoadKeke, shared₦500
Charter across townKeke, drop₦1,500
Across townRide-hailing car₦3,000
Uyo to a nearby townMinibus₦1,500

For context, the NBS Transport Fare Watch put the national average city bus fare at ₦1,431.25 for a single trip in May 2026 (Nairametrics, June 2026). That is a national average across all states, not a Uyo fare.

What makes fares rise

  • Fuel prices: the biggest driver; operators raise fares within days of a pump price rise.
  • Rain: fewer operators, slower trips and higher demand push fares up.
  • Time of day: early morning and evening rush hours, and late nights, cost more.
  • Charter vs shared: a drop costs several times a shared seat.
  • Festive season: December brings heavier traffic and higher fares, especially intercity.

A monthly commute budget: worked example

A labelled example for a worker who takes two shared keke rides each way, five days a week:

Item (example)CalculationAmount
Daily fares4 rides × ₦400₦1,600
Working days22 a month× 22
Commuting total₦1,600 × 22₦35,200
Buffer for rain, charters and errandsabout 15%₦5,280
Monthly budget₦40,480

Set against Akwa Ibom's minimum wage, reported at ₦80,000 a month as at April 2026 (Nairametrics, May 2026), transport in this example takes about half a minimum-wage income. That is why many workers walk part of the way, share charters with colleagues, or live closer to work even at a higher rent. Our guide to budgeting for transport has more ways to cut the bill. Tracking every fare for two weeks is the quickest way to see where your own money goes, and which trips could be walked, shared or combined with errands.

Intercity trips from Uyo

For trips to Eket, Ikot Ekpene, Calabar, Port Harcourt or further, travellers use motor parks served by transport companies and minibus operators, or private cars booked through apps and drivers. Fares for longer trips move with fuel prices and rise sharply in December, when many travel home. For context, the NBS put the national average intercity bus fare at ₦9,699.55 in May 2026 (Nairametrics, June 2026). Book early for the festive season, travel in daylight where possible, buy tickets at the operator's counter rather than from touts, and keep the ticket until you arrive. Allow extra time in the rainy season, when some roads slow traffic considerably.

Safety and payment tips

  • Agree the fare before you sit down, especially for a drop.
  • Carry small notes; many keke riders cannot change large ones.
  • At night, prefer ride-hailing or a known driver, and share your trip with someone.
  • Note the keke's registration or number painted on the body if something goes wrong.
  • Pay by transfer only when the driver confirms receipt in front of you.

Where Pryme fits

A Savings Box can set aside each month's transport money on payday, so it is not spent elsewhere. The Personal Assistant can remind you when the transport pot is running low. See also student money in Uyo.

Questions people ask

How much is keke fare in Uyo?

There is no published tariff. In our labelled example, a shared keke ride costs ₦300 to ₦500 depending on distance, and a charter across town about ₦1,500; ask the driver before boarding.

Are okada allowed in Uyo?

Akwa Ibom has restricted motorcycles and tricycles in some areas for security, such as a 6pm to 7am restriction in three LGAs in 2021. Check current rules for Uyo before relying on okada.

How much should I budget for transport in Uyo per month?

In our labelled example, four shared keke rides a day for 22 working days plus a 15% buffer comes to ₦40,480 a month.

Why do keke fares go up in Uyo?

Mainly fuel price rises, plus rain, rush hours, late nights and the festive season.
