Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Student money in Uyo: UNIUYO fees, hostel and feeding

Student money in Uyo: where to find UNIUYO fees, hostel vs off-campus costs, a monthly budget and how the NELFUND loan works.

The short answer

A UNIUYO student's yearly cost is the official fees on the university portal plus accommodation, feeding, transport and materials, which often cost more than the fees. In our labelled example, a hostel space costs ₦60,000 a session against ₦354,000 for an off-campus room once transport and utilities are counted, and monthly living costs run to about ₦92,000. NELFUND loans are open to students of institutions on its verification system.

For a student at the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), the official fees are only part of the bill. Accommodation, feeding, transport between home and campus, books, data and the cost of a phone or laptop often add up to more than the charges paid to the university. This guide sets out how to find the official fees, compares hostel and off-campus living with labelled examples, explains the federal student loan, and offers a monthly budget you can adjust.

Official fees: where to find them

UNIUYO publishes its charges to students through its own portal and official notices each session, and the amounts differ for new and returning students and by faculty. Fee lists circulating on blogs are often from earlier sessions, sometimes with figures that no longer apply. Before paying, log in to the university's student portal, generate the invoice there, and pay only through the channel it shows. If a figure on a blog differs from your portal invoice, the portal is right.

Hostel or off-campus?

University hostels are usually the cheapest option per year where you can get a space, and they save transport costs. Spaces are limited and allocated through the portal each session, so many students live off campus. Areas around the campuses, including streets off Ikpa Road near the town campus and along Nwaniba Road towards the main campus, are commonly used by students, with rents that depend on distance, water, power and security.

Item (labelled example, per session)HostelOff-campus room
Accommodation₦60,000₦250,000
Transport to lectures (8 months)₦0₦64,000
Water and power extrasIncluded₦40,000
Total₦60,000₦354,000

In this example the off-campus room costs nearly six times as much once transport and utilities are counted. Sharing a flat with two others can bring the off-campus figure down sharply, but agree in writing who pays what before moving in. Inspect water, power and security at night before paying, and never pay a full year's rent to anyone who cannot show they own or manage the property.

A monthly budget: worked example

A labelled example for an off-campus student over a month of lectures:

Item (example)Per month
Feeding: cooking most meals, buying some₦60,000
Transport (keke to and from campus)₦8,000
Mobile data and airtime₦8,000
Toiletries and laundry₦6,000
Photocopies, handouts and materials₦5,000
Emergencies and small extras₦5,000
Total₦92,000

Feeding is the line that varies most. Cooking with two or three flatmates, buying foodstuffs in bulk at the start of the month and limiting eating out can cut it by a third. National transport costs have been rising: the NBS Transport Fare Watch put the average city bus fare at ₦1,431.25 in May 2026 (Nairametrics, June 2026), so check current keke fares on your route and see transport in Uyo.

Books, devices and data

Course materials are easy to underestimate. Departments often sell handouts or recommended texts, practical courses need lab coats, tools or drawing materials, and most assignments now need a phone or laptop and steady data. Spread these costs: buy second-hand textbooks from final-year students, share expensive texts within a study group, and use campus Wi-Fi where it works. If you need a laptop, budget for it before the session starts rather than mid-semester, and set aside a small sum for repairs. A labelled example: putting aside ₦5,000 a month for a device fund builds ₦60,000 over a year, enough to cover a typical screen or battery repair without borrowing.

The NELFUND student loan

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) offers loans for tuition and related charges to eligible students in approved public institutions. An institution must upload its students' data to NELFUND's student verification system before its students can benefit; in July 2024, 12 more state institutions qualified, bringing eligible state institutions to 48 (TheCable, July 2024). The Abia State Government, in promoting the scheme, described the loan as interest-free, with repayment starting two years after national youth service and spread over ten years (Abia State Government, February 2025).

  • Check on the NELFUND portal whether UNIUYO is listed and what the loan covers this session.
  • Apply only through the official portal; never pay an agent to apply for you.
  • Read the repayment terms in full before you accept, and keep a copy.

What to check first

  1. Your portal invoice for this session's official fees.
  2. Whether a hostel space is available before signing an off-campus lease.
  3. Your monthly budget, with feeding as the first line to control.
  4. Your NELFUND eligibility and the loan terms.

Where Pryme fits

Parents can send a monthly allowance with Pryme Send, and a student can split it into Savings Boxes for rent, feeding and emergencies. The Personal Assistant can help track spending against a budget; it prepares, and nothing moves without your approval. See budgeting as a student with an assistant.

Questions people ask

How much is UNIUYO school fees?

Fees vary by faculty and between new and returning students. Generate your invoice on the UNIUYO student portal and treat blog lists as out of date unless they match it.

How much does a student need per month in Uyo?

In our labelled example, an off-campus student spends about ₦92,000 a month on feeding, transport, data and basics, with feeding the largest item.

Is hostel cheaper than off-campus at UNIUYO?

Usually yes. In our labelled example, a hostel space costs ₦60,000 a session against ₦354,000 for an off-campus room once transport and utilities are added.

Can UNIUYO students get the NELFUND loan?

Check the NELFUND portal to see whether UNIUYO is listed. Institutions must upload student data to NELFUND's verification system before their students can benefit.
