Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What a super agent is and how POS aggregators work

What a CBN super agent is, how aggregators recruit and manage POS sub-agents, the 2025 exclusivity rule, and what to check before you sign.

The short answer

A super agent is a company licensed by the CBN to recruit, aggregate and manage agents on behalf of banks and other financial institutions; it may not offer agent banking services directly itself. Under the CBN agent banking guidelines issued on 6 October 2025, from 1 April 2026 an agent may work with only one principal and belong to only one super agent at a time.

The three roles in agent banking

Every POS stand that offers cash-out sits inside a chain of three roles. Understanding them tells you who is responsible when something goes wrong.

Principal
The licensed financial institution whose services the agent offers, such as a bank, microfinance bank or mobile money operator. It decides which services its agents may provide.
Super agent
A company licensed by the CBN to recruit, aggregate and manage agents. It can partner with several principals but does not provide agent banking itself.
Agent
The individual or business at the counter offering cash-in, cash-out, transfers, bill payments and help with account opening forms.

Alongside them, payment terminal service aggregators (PTSAs) register POS terminals, support geo-location and track the devices deployed to agents. In August 2025 the CBN also directed that POS terminals be geotagged.

What changed in the October 2025 guidelines

The CBN's Circular and Guidelines for the Operations of Agent Banking in Nigeria, issued on 6 October 2025, replaced earlier agent banking regulations. According to Techpoint Africa's summary:

  • Exclusivity from 1 April 2026: an agent may work with one principal only and belong to one super agent at a time. Super agents may still work with several principals.
  • Eligibility: no non-performing loans in the 12 months before application, not bankrupt or convicted of a felony, and a BVN that is not flagged.
  • Location: agents operate from an agreed location no smaller than a kiosk; businesses such as filling stations or shops operate only at their registered premises.
  • Limits: customer cash-in, cash-out and bill payments of ₦100,000 a day and ₦500,000 a week; agent cash-out of ₦1.2 million a day.
  • Signage: the principal's and super agent's names and logos, services, charges and support contacts must be displayed. Agents may not call themselves a "bank" or "finance".
  • Sanctions: termination, blacklisting of agents or super agents, and inspections.

The summary did not report a separate application fee or capital figure for a super agent licence, so check the CBN's own licensing documents before relying on any number you are quoted. This is information about published rules, not legal advice.

How aggregators recruit and manage sub-agents

In everyday Nigerian usage, an "aggregator" is a company or individual that signs up POS agents, supplies devices and takes a share of transaction income. Some are licensed super agents or appointed by one; others are informal middlemen who resell a provider's terminals. The usual pattern:

  1. A field officer recruits the agent, collects ID, a passport photo and proof of address, and opens an agent wallet with the principal.
  2. The agent receives a terminal, either leased against a deposit or bought.
  3. Each transaction is settled to the agent's wallet, with fees deducted. The aggregator earns a share of fees on its network of agents.
  4. The aggregator monitors performance, may set targets, and handles device swaps and support.

Banks run their own agent networks too. Access Bank's Closa programme asks for a visible business location, a minimum working capital of ₦50,000, valid ID and a utility bill. UBA Moni requires a verifiable business location, a CAC-registered business account and valid ID, and publishes its agent commissions.

What to check before signing with one

  1. Licence: ask which principal and which super agent you will be registered under, and check the names against the institutions' own websites. Under the exclusivity rule, you can belong to only one.
  2. Contract: read the terms on device ownership, deposits, targets, termination and what happens to your float if you leave.
  3. Fees: get the provider fee per withdrawal and transfer in writing, and how commissions are paid.
  4. Settlement: how fast money reaches your wallet and who handles reversals.
  5. Payments: pay any deposit only to the institution's official account, not to an individual.
  6. Exit: how to return the device and get any refundable deposit back.

Why exclusivity matters for the agent

Before the rule, many agents kept two or three terminals from different providers on the table, switching when one network failed or offering whichever had the lower fee for a given card. From April 2026 that is no longer allowed under the summarised guidelines. Choosing a principal is therefore a bigger decision than it used to be: compare settlement speed, reversal handling, support and fees, because you cannot hedge by keeping a second provider's device. If your terminal fails often, your back-up is now a second SIM or network, not a second provider.

Example: what an aggregator's share looks like

Example only. An aggregator manages 50 agents. Each agent processes ₦3,000,000 of withdrawals a month, and the aggregator receives 0.05% of value from the provider. Monthly network volume is 50 × ₦3,000,000 = ₦150,000,000; 0.05% of that is ₦75,000. Real shares are set by contract and are rarely published.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme is not a super agent and does not recruit POS agents. A registered aggregator business can run payroll and payouts to field staff from a Pryme Business Account with bulk payouts. See also POS terminal prices by provider and what agents charge per withdrawal, and for shops weighing devices against transfers, POS terminal or bank transfer.

Questions people ask

What is a super agent in POS business?

A company licensed by the CBN to recruit, aggregate and manage agents for banks and other financial institutions. It cannot offer agent banking services directly.

Can I use two POS from different companies?

From 1 April 2026, the CBN's October 2025 guidelines limit an agent to one principal and one super agent at a time, so operating for two principals is not allowed.

How do I get a super agent licence from CBN?

Apply to the CBN under its agent banking framework. Check the CBN's own licensing documents for current requirements and fees, as secondary summaries did not state them.

What is the daily limit for POS agents in Nigeria?

Under the October 2025 guidelines, an agent's daily cash-out limit is ₦1.2 million, and each customer is limited to ₦100,000 a day and ₦500,000 a week.
