Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Selling thrift online: photographing, pricing and delivery

How to run an online thrift store in Nigeria: content that sells used clothes, pricing each piece from bale cost, dispatch, returns and the rules to know.

The short answer

Selling thrift online means photographing each piece clearly, stating size and every flaw, pricing from your cost per piece, and having a dependable way to take payment and dispatch. Because every piece is one of a kind, good photographs and quick replies matter more than adverts. In the labelled example below, a grade A piece costing about ₦1,750 to prepare sells for ₦6,500.

Online thrift stores have grown on Instagram, WhatsApp and TikTok because they solve a problem markets have: buyers see the best pieces without spending a day searching. A good online vendor curates, cleans and presents used clothes so they look worth the price. The work is mostly content, customer service and logistics.

Where the stock comes from

Most online vendors buy bales or pick from bale openings in markets, then select only the best pieces for their pages. That means you share the risks of the okrika trade: according to the US International Trade Administration's summary of Nigeria's rules (updated April 2025), second-hand clothing is on Nigeria's absolute import prohibition list, and stock that entered against it can be seized. Read the okrika bale business for how bales and grades work. This is information, not legal advice.

Photographing pieces that sell

  • Wash and iron or steam every piece first; creases and stains read as poor quality.
  • Use daylight from a window and a plain wall or sheet as background.
  • Show the front, back, label, fabric close-up and every flaw.
  • Show it worn or on a hanger at the right height so buyers see the fit.
  • Measure, do not guess: chest, length, waist and inseam in centimetres or inches, written on every post.
  • Give each piece a code (for example TH-0142) so buyers can claim it in one message.

Post at the same times each week. Many vendors announce a "drop" in advance, so regular buyers are waiting when pieces go up, and use first-to-pay rules to avoid disputes.

Pricing each piece

Start from what the piece cost you to get ready, then price for what buyers will pay for that brand and condition.

LineExample
Share of bale cost (₦260,000 including transport ÷ 200 pieces)₦1,300
Washing, ironing or steaming₦150
Share of photography and data₦100
Packaging (nylon, tag, thank-you card)₦200
Cost per piece₦1,750
Price online₦6,500
Gross before your time and returns₦4,750

Do not use the average cost for every piece. Grade C pieces should not go online at all; they pull your page's standard down. Price grade A by brand and condition and use grade B for bundles. If you take returns, set aside part of each sale: in the example, keeping ₦300 a piece covers a return rate of about one in twenty on a ₦6,500 item.

Payment, dispatch and returns

  1. Hold a piece only after payment, or for a short time you state (for example two hours).
  2. Confirm the payment has landed in your account before you pack; screenshots of alerts can be faked.
  3. Use dispatch riders or courier companies with tracking, and give buyers the rider's details.
  4. State who pays delivery, by area, before payment.
  5. Publish a returns policy: what counts as a valid return (wrong size measured, undisclosed flaw), in how many days, and who pays delivery back.

Disputes in thrift are usually about flaws the buyer did not see. Showing every flaw in photographs prevents most of them.

A week in numbers

  • Pieces posted: 40 grade A at an average of ₦6,500.
  • Sold within the week: 30, so sales of ₦195,000.
  • Cost of the 30 sold at ₦1,750 each: ₦52,500.
  • Returns reserve at ₦300 each: ₦9,000.
  • Promoted post: ₦10,000.
  • Gross for the week: ₦195,000 − ₦52,500 − ₦9,000 − ₦10,000 = ₦123,500, before your time.

The 10 unsold pieces are not lost; reprice them for the next drop or move them into a bundle. What matters is the sell-through rate (30 of 40 is 75%). If it falls below about half for several weeks, your pieces, prices or posting times need to change before you buy more stock.

Messaging and customer data

A WhatsApp Business catalogue can hold up to 500 products with up to 10 images each, according to respond.io's June 2026 guide, which suits a thrift drop well (see selling on WhatsApp Business). If you collect buyers' numbers for broadcasts, Nigeria's data protection rules apply; see WhatsApp promos and the NDPA.

Building a following that buys

Followers matter only if they pay. Reply to every message within a few hours during a drop, thank buyers publicly (with permission) when their order arrives, and repost their photos. A small group of regular buyers who trust your measurements and honesty about flaws will clear most of a drop on their own, and they bring friends.

What to check first

  • A reliable source of grade A pieces and the risk you accept with bale stock.
  • Your cost per piece and your price range by brand.
  • Dispatch partners for your city and their prices by area.
  • A written returns policy pinned to your page.
  • A business account in your page's name for payments.

Where Pryme fits

Bank-transfer checkout on a Pryme Business Account gives each order its own payment, is free and confirms when money lands, which helps with first-to-pay drops. The Customer Support agent can prepare replies to common questions, with you approving what goes out (customer support agent).

Questions people ask

How do I start an online thrift business in Nigeria?

Find a reliable source of good pieces, wash and photograph each with measurements and flaws, post at set times, take payment before holding pieces, and use tracked dispatch. Publish a returns policy.

How much should I sell thrift clothes online?

Price from your cost per piece and the brand and condition. In the labelled example, a grade A piece cost about ₦1,750 to prepare and sold for ₦6,500.

What is the best platform to sell thrift in Nigeria?

Instagram and WhatsApp are widely used by thrift vendors; WhatsApp Business catalogues hold up to 500 products. Many vendors post on Instagram and close sales on WhatsApp.

How do thrift vendors handle returns?

They state rules before payment: which faults qualify, how many days, and who pays delivery back. Showing every flaw in photos prevents most disputes.
