Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What POS agents charge per withdrawal in Nigeria

What POS agents in Nigeria charge per cash withdrawal, what the provider takes, and whether the CBN caps agent charges. Reported ranges, not official.

The short answer

There is no official national price list for POS cash withdrawals: agents set their own charge, and reported charges in Lagos and Enugu in January 2025 were about ₦150 to ₦200 for ₦5,000 or less and about ₦200 for ₦5,000 to ₦10,000. The agent also pays a fee to its provider out of each withdrawal. The CBN's October 2025 agent banking guidelines require charges to be displayed at the agent's location, but no published cap on what agents charge customers was reported.

Two charges sit inside one withdrawal

When you withdraw cash at a POS stand, two separate charges are usually involved. The first is the agent's charge: the money the agent asks you for, in cash or added to the amount you pay with your card. The second is the provider's fee: what the agent's bank, fintech or super agent deducts from the agent's settlement for processing the card transaction. Customers see the first. Agents feel both, and the gap between them is the agent's gross income on that withdrawal.

Your own bank may also show something on your alert for a card withdrawal at another institution's terminal. That depends on your bank, so read your debit alert after the transaction rather than assuming.

What agents are reported to charge customers

These figures come from agents interviewed by Techpoint Africa in January 2025. They are reported market prices, not official rates, and they move with cash scarcity, transport costs and competition on the street.

Withdrawal amountCharge before the rise (as reported)Charge reported Jan 2025
₦5,000 or less₦100₦150 to ₦200
₦5,001 to ₦10,000₦200About ₦200 (one Lagos agent moved from ₦200 to ₦300 on ₦10,000)
Transfers above ₦10,000Not reportedOne Enugu operator deducted ₦50

For amounts above ₦10,000 the article gave no standard figure. Agents set their own steps for larger amounts. Those interviewed said they sometimes buy cash from individuals and businesses when banks do not supply enough, and pass that cost on to customers. Treat any figure you hear as one agent's price, and ask before the card goes in.

What the provider takes from the agent

Providers publish their merchant or agent pricing unevenly, and some older pages may no longer reflect what an agent is charged today. Two published examples show how the structure works:

  • Moniepoint (blog post dated 25 January 2023): withdrawals charged at 0.5% for ₦1 to ₦20,000 and a flat ₦100 above ₦20,000. The post is more than three years old, so check the current rate in the Moniepoint business app before relying on it.
  • UBA Moni (UBA's agency banking page, read October 2026): UBA sets the customer fee itself, ₦100 for a POS withdrawal with another bank's card, and pays the agent a commission of ₦49 on that transaction. Deposits, withdrawals with a UBA card and intrabank transfers carry a ₦59 agent commission.
  • Nomba Mini (product page, undated): shows a 0.4% transaction charge on the device.

The two models are different. With a percentage fee, the agent sets the customer price and keeps the difference. With a bank model like UBA Moni's, the customer fee is fixed by the bank and the agent earns a set commission.

Does any regulator cap agent charges?

The CBN issued new Circular and Guidelines for the Operations of Agent Banking in Nigeria on 6 October 2025, replacing earlier rules. According to Techpoint Africa's summary of the document, agent locations must display the services offered, the applicable charges and customer support contacts, and principals must ensure equal pricing for all customers and agents. The summary reported no fixed cap on what an agent may charge a customer for a withdrawal.

The same guidelines set limits on volume: customer cash-in, cash-out and bill payments of ₦100,000 a day and ₦500,000 a week, and an agent cash-out limit of ₦1.2 million a day. The Lagos chapter of the Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents of Nigeria (AMBANN) has asked members to keep fees within limits, but no figures were published. Read the CBN circular itself for the exact wording; this article reports secondary summaries and is information, not advice.

Worked example: where a ₦10,000 withdrawal goes

Example only. A customer withdraws ₦10,000 and the agent charges ₦200 in cash. The agent's provider charges 0.5% on withdrawals up to ₦20,000 (the 2023 Moniepoint rate, used here for illustration).

  1. Card debited: ₦10,000. Cash handed over: ₦10,000. Customer also pays ₦200, so the withdrawal costs the customer ₦10,200 in total.
  2. Provider fee: 0.5% of ₦10,000 = ₦50, deducted from the agent's settlement. The agent's wallet receives ₦9,950.
  3. Agent position: paid out ₦10,000 cash, received ₦9,950 into the wallet plus ₦200 cash, so ₦10,150 back. Gross margin ₦150.
  4. Out of that ₦150 come the agent's rent, data, transport to buy cash and any premium paid to source cash.

Twenty such withdrawals in a day would give ₦3,000 gross (20 × ₦150) before those costs. Our guide to calculating POS daily profit works through the costs side.

What to check first, as a customer

  • Ask the charge before the card goes in, and whether it is added to the card amount or paid in cash.
  • Check the signage for the principal's name and the displayed charges.
  • Keep the printed slip until your bank alert and the cash match. If the terminal fails, see what happens when a POS transaction hangs.
  • For larger sums, a bank transfer to the person you are paying may cost less than withdrawing cash to pay them. Our comparison of POS and bank transfer sets out the trade-offs.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not run POS terminals or agents. Where you are paying someone rather than needing cash in hand, you can send naira by transfer from a Pryme account and keep the receipt. Agents comparing devices can read our POS terminal price comparison.

Questions people ask

How much do POS agents charge for ₦10,000 withdrawal?

There is no official price. Agents interviewed in January 2025 reported about ₦200 for ₦5,000 to ₦10,000, and one Lagos agent had moved to ₦300. Ask before the card is inserted.

Is there a CBN approved POS charge for withdrawal?

No fixed national cap on agents' customer charges was reported in summaries of the CBN's October 2025 agent banking guidelines. The guidelines require agents to display their charges.

Why do POS agents charge more than the bank?

The agent pays its provider a fee on each withdrawal and also bears rent, data, transport and sometimes a premium to buy cash, then adds a margin.

What is the maximum I can withdraw from a POS agent daily?

Under the October 2025 CBN guidelines as summarised by Techpoint Africa, a customer's cash-out at agents is limited to ₦100,000 a day and ₦500,000 a week.
