Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Student money in Ilorin: Unilorin, KWASU and Kwara Poly budgets

Money for Unilorin, KWASU or Kwara Poly students: where real fees come from, hostel or off-campus rooms, a monthly budget and getting money from home.

The short answer

A student in Ilorin needs to plan for three things: the official school charges set by the institution each session, accommodation (a campus hostel or a room off campus in areas like Tanke, Oke-Odo or Malete) and monthly living costs. Get fees only from your school's own portal, because third-party lists are often wrong. As a labelled example, an off-campus student might spend ₦100,000 to ₦150,000 a month on living costs.

School charges: where to get the real figure

The University of Ilorin, Kwara State University (KWASU) at Malete and Kwara State Polytechnic each set their own charges per session, and they differ by faculty, level and whether you are a fresher. New students usually face an acceptance fee, then a session's charges, then smaller items like medical, ID card, departmental and hostel fees.

Many websites publish fee lists for these schools, but they are rarely dated or sourced, and we could not verify any of them for the 2025/26 session. Use only:

  • Your admission letter and the payment schedule on your school's own student portal
  • Official notices from the bursary or registry
  • The official payment page the portal sends you to

Hostel or off campus?

Campus hostels are usually cheaper and save transport, but spaces are limited and allocated by the school. Many students therefore rent rooms nearby. For Unilorin, Tanke and Oke-Odo are the areas students most commonly mention; for KWASU, Malete and its surrounding communities.

OptionProsCons
Campus hostelClose to lectures; fee set by school; fewer billsLimited spaces; shared rooms; rules on cooking and visitors
Room in Tanke or Oke-OdoChoice of room types; private spaceYearly rent upfront; agent fees; power and water bills; daily transport
Room near KWASU, MaleteClose to campusFewer options; travel to Ilorin city for some needs

For off-campus rents and upfront costs, see rent in Ilorin by area and the guide to upfront renting costs in the same series.

A monthly budget

ItemExample monthly amount
Food (cooking mostly, some buying)₦60,000
Transport to and from campus, 22 days × ₦1,000₦22,000
Electricity tokens and water₦10,000
Data and airtime₦8,000
Books, printing and handouts₦7,000
Toiletries and laundry₦6,000
Emergency buffer₦7,000
Total₦120,000

Transport is the line most likely to move. In April 2024, during a fuel scarcity, Gazette Nigeria reported some Ilorin routes doubling, with commercial motorcycles inside areas rising from ₦150–₦200 to ₦250–₦300. See transport fares in Ilorin for a commuting estimate.

Receiving money from home

Most students rely on transfers from parents or relatives. A few things make this smoother:

  1. Open an account in the exact name on your BVN, so transfers do not fail on name checks.
  2. Know your account's tier limits. A basic Tier 1 account at many banks caps a single deposit at ₦50,000 and the balance at ₦300,000, which a lump sum for rent or fees can exceed. Upgrade with a valid ID and proof of address. See opening an account in Ilorin.
  3. Agree a fixed monthly amount and date with whoever supports you, rather than asking ad hoc.
  4. If relatives abroad send money, use a CBN-licensed operator; see receiving money from abroad in Ilorin.

Making it last the month

  • Split your allowance on the day it arrives: rent and fees pot, monthly living pot, emergency pot
  • Buy staples in bulk with roommates
  • Track spending weekly, not monthly, so you notice early
  • Avoid borrowing from apps to fill gaps; if a lender offers a limit, read the total cost before you accept

Budgeting for the session, not just the month

Monthly living costs are only part of a student's year. The big sums come at set times: acceptance fee on admission, school charges at the start of each session, hostel or rent once a year, and project or field-trip costs in final year. Make a simple calendar of these dates with your family and agree who pays what, and when. If your rent is due in October and school charges in November, for example, the money from home needs to arrive earlier in those months, not at the usual monthly date.

Keep every school payment receipt and your portal printouts in one folder, physical and on your phone. They are needed for registration, clearance, and sometimes for scholarship or bursary applications.

Part-time income

Many students earn from tutoring, hair and make-up, phone repairs, graphic design or campus deliveries. Keep earnings in a separate pot from your allowance so you can see whether the side work is actually paying, and do not let it crowd out lectures in exam periods.

If an app or individual offers you a loan to cover a gap, ask for the total amount you will repay and the date in writing before you accept, and compare it with asking family to move the next transfer forward.

Where Pryme fits

Every Pryme Personal Account customer can set up a Personal Assistant (default name Eva) that helps with bills, saving and reminders; it prepares, and nothing moves without your approval (Personal Assistant). For more, see budgeting as a student with an assistant.

Questions people ask

How much is Unilorin school fees for 2025/2026?

Charges differ by faculty and level and are set each session. Use the payment schedule on the Unilorin student portal; we could not verify third-party fee lists.

How much does a student need per month in Ilorin?

As a labelled example, an off-campus student might spend about ₦120,000 a month on food, transport, power, data and supplies, before rent.

Where do Unilorin students live off campus?

Tanke and Oke-Odo are the areas students most often mention. KWASU students often live in and around Malete.

Why did my parents' transfer to my account fail?

Common reasons are a name mismatch with your BVN or a Tier 1 limit on single deposits or balance. Upgrade your account tier.
