Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Starling and Nigeria: why the payment option is missing

Starling's international payments page lists 34 countries and Nigeria is not one of them. Why you cannot find it, and the options that do reach Nigeria.

The short answer

You cannot find Nigeria in Starling's international payments because it is not on Starling's list. Starling's country fees page covers 34 countries, from Australia to the United States, and neither Nigeria nor the naira appears (checked October 2026). To pay a Nigerian account from a Starling balance, you would use a provider that does send to Nigeria, funded from Starling.

Starling users often search for Nigeria in the international payment screen and find nothing. It is not a glitch or a block on your account. Starling's published list of destination countries simply does not include Nigeria. This guide shows what Starling does support, and the practical ways to get money from a Starling account to a Nigerian one.

What Starling's country list shows

Starling's country fees page lists 34 countries. Every one has a SWIFT fee of £5.50, some also have a local network option (£0.30 or £0.90), and the SWIFT or local fee is charged on top of a 0.4% conversion fee. The countries are mostly in Europe, plus Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the United States. Nigeria and NGN are not on it.

FeeStarling's page
Conversion fee0.4%
SWIFT£5.50
Local network£0.30, £0.90 or not available, by country
NigeriaNot listed

The page does not explain why some countries are absent, and it makes no statement about unsupported countries, so we cannot say whether Nigeria will be added. South Africa is the only African country listed.

Could I send pounds to Nigeria instead?

Starling's list is by destination country, so a payment to a Nigerian bank in any currency, including pounds to a domiciliary account, is not offered through its international payments as listed. Check with Starling if you have a specific case, but do not expect the option to appear. If you have already set up a recipient in another country by mistake, for example by choosing a country with a similar currency, cancel it: a payment routed to the wrong country will not reach a Nigerian bank and may take time to come back.

Ways to pay Nigeria from a Starling account

Your Starling account can still fund a transfer made through another provider. Common routes:

  • A money transfer firm funded by debit card or bank transfer. Use your Starling debit card or a UK bank transfer from Starling to pay a firm that sends to Nigeria.
  • Pay by Bank. Some firms let you approve the payment in your banking app; check whether Starling appears in the firm's bank list.
  • A UK account that sends naira. Monzo, for example, says it sends NGN to Nigerian accounts through the NIP network with partner banks; Revolut offers bank transfers to Nigeria in naira. You would move money from Starling to that account first.

We do not rank providers; compare each one's fee and rate on the day. See Monzo's Nigeria payment details and Revolut's Nigeria transfer.

Worked example

Example. Ngozi banks with Starling and needs to pay ₦300,000 to her mother's account. Nigeria is not in Starling's list. She opens a remittance app that pays Nigerian banks, adds her Starling debit card as the payment method, checks the naira amount and fee on the quote, and sends. Her Starling statement shows a card payment in pounds to the provider; the provider handles conversion and delivery.

Receiving money from Nigeria into Starling

Sending and receiving are separate. Starling's fee information document for personal GBP accounts says that where a payment from outside the UK needs a currency conversion, a 2% margin is applied, and the sender's and other banks may also charge. That is for incoming payments, and it does not mean Starling sends to Nigeria. If relatives in Nigeria pay you, ask them to check with their bank whether it can send pounds to a UK account.

What to check first

  • The provider you pick is authorised by the FCA; the FCA's payment services pages explain what this means.
  • Your Starling card or payment is accepted by that provider.
  • The naira amount shown before you pay, and the fee line.
  • The receiver's 10-digit account number and bank.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account can be opened from the UK and holds GBP alongside NGN, with local account details for each, so you can move pounds in from Starling and pay Nigeria from Pryme. The app shows the rate and the fee before you approve; outside Nigeria, activities are carried out through regulated partners. See multicurrency.

Questions people ask

Can I send money to Nigeria with Starling Bank?

Not through Starling's international payments as listed: Starling's country page lists 34 countries and Nigeria is not one.

Why can't I find Nigeria in my Starling app?

Because Nigeria is not on Starling's supported destination list, not because of a problem with your account.

How can I pay Nigeria from my Starling account?

Use a provider that sends to Nigeria and fund it with your Starling debit card, a bank transfer or Pay by Bank where offered.

What does Starling charge for international payments?

Its page shows a 0.4% conversion fee plus £5.50 SWIFT or a local network fee, for the countries it lists.
