Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Monzo payment to Nigeria: the details you need to enter

To pay a Nigerian account from Monzo you need the recipient name, bank name and 10-digit account number. Limits, timing and what to do if it goes wrong.

The short answer

Monzo can send naira to Nigeria. Its help page says you choose Person or Business, then enter the recipient's full name, bank name, 10-digit account number and country, with an optional reference; you can send up to ₦95,000,000 per transfer, and most payments arrive within seconds, nearly all within 6 hours (Monzo Help, checked October 2026). No SWIFT code or IBAN is needed.

Monzo sends naira payments as local transfers in Nigeria, so the details are the same ones a Nigerian would use to pay a friend at home. Getting them right first time is what makes the payment arrive in seconds rather than coming back. This guide goes through each field, using Monzo's own help page.

The fields Monzo asks for

FieldWhat to enterTip
Recipient typePerson or BusinessChoose Business for a school, landlord company or supplier
Full nameThe account holder's nameUse the name on the account, not a nickname
Bank nameThe Nigerian bank or institutionPick the exact institution; microfinance banks have similar names
Account number10 digitsMonzo: "It's really important that you use the correct account number"
CountryNigeria
ReferenceOptionalUse something the receiver will recognise, such as "Jan school fees"

Nigerian account numbers are 10-digit NUBANs. Under the CBN's NUBAN standard, the last digit is a check digit calculated from the bank code and the serial number, which is why the bank name and the number must belong together. A number that is valid at one bank will usually fail at another. For how the number is built, see NUBAN explained.

How the payment travels

Monzo says naira payments go out as a local bank transfer "through the NIBSS Instant Payments (NIP) network with partner banks in Nigeria". In practice:

  • "Most payments arrive within seconds, and nearly all arrive within 6 hours."
  • Bank holidays or extra checks can take up to 1 working day.
  • "There is no cut off time"; payments go out the same day.
  • The app shows the expected time before and after you send.

Limits

Monzo's page says you can send up to ₦95,000,000 per transfer. If that is above your own app limit, you must request an increase before sending. The page does not state fees; the app shows what you will pay and the naira amount before you confirm.

If something goes wrong

  1. Sent but not received. Contact Monzo and it will trace the payment. Ask the receiver to check with their bank first.
  2. Wrong name or account number. Monzo says recalls are available if you used the wrong name or account number, and "We can send the recall immediately." Act quickly.
  3. Number belongs to someone else. Monzo says "the payment will likely be returned."
  4. You think it is fraud. Recall is also available for suspected fraud; contact Monzo at once.

Worked example

Example. Seyi pays her nephew's school in Ibadan. She chooses Business, types the school's account name as printed on the fee letter, selects the school's bank, enters the 10-digit account number and adds the reference "Tobi Adeyemi Term 1". The app shows the naira amount and the expected time. The school's bursar confirms receipt within minutes, and the reference lets them match it to the right pupil.

Personal or business recipient

Monzo lets you choose Person or Business when you add the recipient. Pick Business for a company account, such as a school, a hospital, a property developer or a supplier, and enter the registered business name as it appears on the account rather than a trading nickname. For a sole trader who uses a personal account, choose Person and use their own name. The choice tells Monzo and the receiving bank what kind of account to expect, so getting it right reduces the chance of a return or a query.

Monzo's page does not mention extra fields such as the receiver's address or phone number for Nigeria. If the app asks for something the help page does not list, it is likely to be a check Monzo runs on that payment; answer it rather than abandoning the transfer.

What to check first

  • Ask the receiver to send the details in writing, ideally a screenshot from their banking app.
  • Read the account number back digit by digit.
  • Confirm the bank, including whether it is a microfinance bank.
  • Check the naira amount on the confirmation screen.

For a wider overview, see Monzo international transfers to Nigeria and Nigerian bank details for UK senders.

Where Pryme fits

In Pryme you can hold naira as well as pounds and pay a Nigerian account from your NGN balance, or convert first with Swap, which shows the rate and fee before you approve. See multicurrency.
