Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Taptap Send UK card declined: common reasons

A declined card on Taptap Send is usually your bank, the card type, a name mismatch or an unfinished 3D Secure check. How to tell which and fix it.

The short answer

Taptap Send's help centre (updated 17 September 2026) gives four causes: your bank declined the payment (insufficient funds, card limits or a blocked card), the card type is not accepted, the card is not in the account holder's name, or the 3D Secure step was not completed. When the bank declines, no money is taken.

The reasons Taptap Send gives

Taptap Send's help article on the most common issues, updated on 17 September 2026, is the clearest statement of why a UK card fails. It lists:

CauseWhat it looks likeFix
Bank declinePayment refused at the card stageCheck balance and daily card limit; call your bank if the card is blocked
Card type not acceptedCard will not add, or fails each timeUse a different card; Taptap Send says it only accepts certain card types
Name on card differsCard refused when linkedUse a card in your own name; it says it only accepts cards registered to the account holder
3D Secure not completedPayment stalls at bank approval, then failsApprove promptly in your banking app; keep notifications on

The page also says that when your bank declines a payment for insufficient funds, card limits or a blocked card, no funds are taken. That is useful: a decline is not a lost payment.

Bank fraud blocks

UK banks run fraud checks on card payments, and a first payment to a money transfer service, an unusual amount or a payment late at night can trip them. The card is not necessarily blocked for good; the bank wants to confirm it was you. Signs of this include a text or app alert from your bank, or a card that works in shops but fails on Taptap Send.

What to do: open your banking app and look for a pending alert to confirm. If there is none, call the number on the back of your card and say you are making a payment to Taptap Send. After you confirm, try again. If your bank refuses payments to Nigeria altogether, see bank blocked a payment to Nigeria.

Card type

Taptap Send says it only accepts certain card types and refers to its other help articles for the list. Its card set-up path is labelled 'Add a debit card', which points to debit cards as the expected method. If you have been trying a credit card, check its terms first: card issuers can treat money transfer payments as cash advances, with fees and interest from day one; see credit card funded transfers and cash advance fees. Some prepaid and virtual cards are also refused by money transfer services.

3D Secure

3D Secure is the extra step where your bank asks you to approve an online card payment, usually in its app. Taptap Send's help page says a transfer can fail if this step is not completed, and gives practical steps:

  • install your bank's app and make sure you are signed in to online or mobile banking;
  • keep your contact details up to date with your bank;
  • keep notifications switched on so the approval request reaches you.

If the approval screen times out, start the transfer again rather than approving an old request.

Steps when your card is declined

  1. Read the message in the Taptap Send app; it often names the cause.
  2. Check your bank balance and daily card spending limit.
  3. Open your banking app for a fraud alert or pending approval.
  4. Confirm the card is a debit card in your own name.
  5. Try once more after fixing the cause. Repeated attempts in a short time can trigger further fraud checks.
  6. If it still fails, contact Taptap Send support from the app.

If money was taken but the transfer failed

That is a different situation from a decline. Taptap Send's help centre says funds from a failed transfer go back to your original payment method, typically within 3 to 5 business days (up to 10 calendar days for Klarna/Sofort). If the money does not arrive in that time, contact support in the app. For the full sending steps, see how to send with Taptap Send from the UK.

Signs that point to each cause

You can usually tell which cause you are dealing with from what happens around the decline. If your banking app shows a declined payment with a fraud warning, it is a bank block. If the card will not even save to your Taptap Send profile, the card type or the name on it is the more likely problem. If you saw the bank approval screen but did not finish it, or it timed out, the 3D Secure step failed. If the payment fails only above a certain amount, you are probably hitting your card's daily limit, which your bank sets and which you can sometimes change in its app.

Keep a note of the time and amount of each attempt. If you do need to call your bank or Taptap Send, that detail lets them find the attempt quickly.

Where Pryme fits

With a Pryme account you hold pounds on local UK details and pay out from that balance, so a transfer to Nigeria through Send does not depend on a card payment being approved. Security uses an authenticator app and a transaction PIN rather than SMS codes; see security.

Questions people ask

Why does Taptap Send keep declining my card?

Its help centre lists bank declines (funds, limits, blocked card), unsupported card types, a card not in your name, and an unfinished 3D Secure check.

Does Taptap Send accept credit cards in the UK?

Taptap Send says it only accepts certain card types; its card set-up is labelled 'Add a debit card'. Credit card issuers may treat transfers as cash advances.

Was I charged if my card was declined?

Taptap Send says that when your bank declines for insufficient funds, limits or a blocked card, no funds are taken.

How long does a Taptap Send refund take?

For a failed transfer, its help centre says typically 3 to 5 business days back to your payment method, up to 10 calendar days for Klarna/Sofort.
