Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Selling Nigerian products on Amazon.ae from the UAE

What a Nigerian seller in the UAE needs to list on Amazon.ae: a UAE commercial licence, owner ID, a credit card, identity checks and product approvals.

The short answer

Amazon.ae requires a valid UAE commercial licence for any business operating in the UAE, mainland or free zone, plus the owner's ID, a trade licence PDF showing the owner's name and a credit card (debit cards are not accepted), followed by identity verification. Amazon's registration guide also mentions a Dubai trader licence for home-based sellers with "Online Seller" as the activity. Nigerian goods still need their own import and product approvals.

Step one is a licence, not an account

Amazon's seller page for the UAE puts it simply: "Got a Dubai Trade Licence? You're eligible to sell on Amazon.ae!" Its commercial licence page adds that "if your business is operating in the UAE, you need a valid commercial license", whether you are on the mainland or in a free zone, and that you upload your commercial registration in Seller Central. Amazon says the page may not be current and suggests consulting an advisor about licensing.

For a Nigerian living in the UAE who wants to sell shea butter, black soap, spices or fashion, this means choosing a licence before anything else. Amazon's registration guide mentions that home-based sellers in Dubai can obtain a DED Trader licence permitting "Online Seller" as an activity. If you plan to import stock from Nigeria in your own name, the licence also needs an activity that allows trading in those goods, because Dubai Customs issues client codes only against licensed activities; see mainland or free zone for Nigeria trade.

What registration asks for

Amazon.ae's registration guide (PDF, undated) lists:

  • A valid national or resident ID of the business owner.
  • The trade licence as a PDF showing the owner's name.
  • For a legal representative: their ID and one PDF combining the trade licence and a power of attorney.
  • Primary contact's passport, national ID or residence ID, with issuing country and expiry date; an authorisation letter if they are not the owner, director, trustee or attorney.
  • Company registration number and registered address.
  • A credit card: "Debit cards are not accepted on Amazon", though the step can be done later.
  • Identity verification by photo of your face and ID, or a recorded video.

Business types accepted include privately owned, state owned and publicly listed businesses and charities. The guide does not list a bank statement or VAT number as registration requirements; tax details are added later.

Fees and offers

As at the version of the Amazon.ae seller page we read (dated around October 2025), Professional accounts were offered "with no monthly subscription fee" for "a limited time only", without stating the standard fee. Referral fees vary by category and are on Amazon's category fees page; the page mentioned a reduced 5% referral fee for eligible new-to-Prime products for 120 days under a new-selection offer. Check the pricing page for the current figures before you budget.

VAT points in Amazon's guide

Amazon's guide notes that non-UAE residents selling through Fulfilment by Amazon may need UAE VAT registration regardless of turnover, because international FBA sellers holding stock on the UAE mainland face a nil registration threshold, while some sellers in its free-zone FBA programme may not need to register. If you are UAE-resident with a UAE company, your VAT position depends on your own turnover; see the UAE small business relief threshold for the corporate tax side.

The product side for Nigerian goods

A listing does not make a product legal to sell. Before you list, each Nigerian product needs to be lawfully in the UAE and, for food and cosmetics, approved and labelled for the UAE market:

ProductExtra steps to plan
Packaged food (garri, spices, palm oil)Food registration and Arabic labelling; possibly halal certification
Shea butter, black soap, cosmeticsCosmetics registration in the UAE
Fashion and accessoriesImport duty and accurate fibre labelling
Art and craftsNigerian export papers (NCMM for antiquities)

See Arabic labelling for Nigerian food, halal certificates and cosmetics registration for Nigerian beauty products. Amazon may also restrict some categories; the seller pages we read did not list category approvals, so check in Seller Central before you ship stock.

Fulfilment choices

You can store and ship orders yourself, or send stock to Amazon's warehouses under Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA). The seller page mentioned an FBA new-selection offer of free monthly storage for 30 units of new-to-FBA products for up to 90 days. FBA changes your VAT position if you are not UAE-resident, as above, and adds fulfilment fees that vary by size and weight. For a small range of Nigerian products, many sellers start with self-fulfilment to test demand, then move best-sellers into FBA.

Steps

  1. Choose and obtain the licence that covers online selling and, if needed, import.
  2. Get a credit card in the business or owner's name.
  3. Register on Seller Central and complete identity verification.
  4. Clear each product's UAE approvals and labels.
  5. Ship a small first batch and check reviews and returns before scaling.

Where Pryme fits

Amazon pays sellers out, while Nigerian producers want naira. A Pryme Business Account holds USD, GBP, EUR and NGN; you can pay producers in Nigeria with Send and keep a verifiable receipt for each payment. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Can I sell on Amazon.ae without a trade licence?

Amazon says a business operating in the UAE needs a valid commercial licence, mainland or free zone. Its guide mentions a Dubai trader licence for home-based online sellers.

Does Amazon.ae accept debit cards for seller registration?

No. Amazon's registration guide says debit cards are not accepted; you need a credit card, which can be added after the first steps.

Do I need VAT registration to sell on Amazon.ae?

Not at registration. Amazon's guide notes non-UAE residents using FBA may need VAT registration regardless of turnover; UAE businesses follow the normal thresholds.

Can I sell Nigerian food on Amazon.ae?

Only once the product is lawfully imported and meets UAE food registration and labelling rules, and any category approval Amazon applies.
