Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Arab Emirates

Arabic labelling rules for Nigerian food sold in the UAE

Garri, palm oil and spices sold in UAE shops need Arabic labels with exact origin, metric weight, dates and lot. What must appear and where stickers work.

The short answer

Packaged Nigerian food sold in UAE shops must carry its mandatory label information in Arabic, usually alongside English, and Arabic is the language officials use to verify the label. The label must show the product name, ingredients, net weight in metric units, production and expiry dates, storage conditions, the manufacturer or packer, the exact country of origin (Nigeria), a lot number and nutrition information. An Arabic sticker can be used for translation, but it must not hide or contradict the original label.

A bag of garri that sells well in a Lagos market can be refused in Dubai because the label says "Made in Africa", shows weight in pounds, or has no production date. Labels are the most common reason Nigerian packed food is held, relabelled or turned away in the UAE, and they are cheap to fix before printing.

The language rule

Al Tamimi & Company's note on food labelling in Dubai, written against the Gulf standard GSO 9 on labelling of pre-packaged food, says labels must be in Arabic and/or English, other languages are treated as translations, and "Arabic is the official language for verifying the information on the label". If the label carries more than the mandatory details, at least the mandatory information must be in Arabic. Meydan Free Zone's August 2026 guide to Dubai Municipality registration says Arabic labelling is mandatory on consumer products and that Arabic with English translation is required.

What must be on the label

Combining the particulars listed by Al Tamimi and by Meydan:

ItemWhat it means for a Nigerian product
Product nameSpecific, showing the true nature: "Yellow garri (cassava granules)", not "African food"
IngredientsIn descending order by weight, with allergens highlighted
Net weightMetric units only (g, kg, ml, L). Meydan says imperial-only labels are not accepted
Production and expiry datesBoth. Al Tamimi notes products with a shelf life of 18 months or less must show a minimum durability date
Storage and useFor example "Store in a cool, dry place" for egusi or crayfish
Manufacturer or packerName and address of the Nigerian packer, at least one
Country of originStated exactly: "Nigeria". Al Tamimi says a regional term (its example is the EU) is not acceptable
Lot identificationA batch or lot code linking the pack to the factory and run
BarcodeListed by Al Tamimi
Nutrition informationPer weight or per serving
Halal and GMO marksListed by Al Tamimi; GMO marking where applicable

Al Tamimi also says labels must be clear, easy to read, hard to remove and not hidden by designs. The note is older (filed in 2017, last modified 2020) and cites GSO 9/2019, so check the current standard for your product when you register it.

Stickers: when they work

Al Tamimi says companies may use stickers to translate food labels into Arabic. GourmetPro's September 2026 guide adds two limits: a supplementary sticker must not conceal or contradict required information, and an Arabic sticker cannot be assumed to change dates. So a sticker can translate a compliant English label, but it cannot rescue a label with missing dates, imperial weights or a vague origin.

Common gaps on Nigerian packs

  • Garri, elubo, semovita: often no production date, only a "best before" handwritten or missing. Need both dates printed.
  • Palm oil: reused bottles with no label at all. Needs a sealed, labelled retail container with net volume in ml or L.
  • Pepper and spice mixes: "mixed spices" without a list. Every ingredient must be named in order, with allergens such as mustard or celery highlighted if present.
  • Crayfish and stockfish: no packer address or lot number.
  • Any product: weight in pounds or "1 derica"; origin as "West Africa".

Worked example: rewriting a garri label

Example only. A packer's current bag says "Ijebu Garri, 5lb, Product of Africa". For the UAE it becomes:

  • Product name: Ijebu garri (fermented cassava granules), in Arabic and English.
  • Net weight: 2.27 kg is 5 lb converted, but round to a pack size you can fill accurately, such as 2 kg, and state it in metric.
  • Ingredients: cassava.
  • Production date, expiry date and lot number printed on the bag, not handwritten.
  • Packer name and address in Nigeria. Country of origin: Nigeria.
  • Storage: keep in a cool, dry place; close after opening.
  • Nutrition table per 100 g, and barcode.

What to check first

  • Agree the final label with your Nigerian packer before printing a full run.
  • Register the label artwork with the product; see importing Nigerian foodstuff into Dubai.
  • Keep label artwork fixed. Meydan notes that changes to a registered product's label need an amendment.
  • For trade shows, take compliant samples; see exhibiting at Gulfood.

Budget for the label work early. A packer in Nigeria that has only sold in local markets may never have printed dates or lot codes, so it may need new bags, a date coder or a printer who can add them on the line. That cost is small next to a refused shipment.

For the Nigerian registration side, our Nigeria library covers NAFDAC product registration.

Where Pryme fits

Label design, printing and packing are usually paid in naira to Nigerian suppliers. A Pryme Business Account lets a UAE-based trader hold naira for those costs and convert from USD only when the rate suits. See business multicurrency accounts.

Questions people ask

Do food labels in the UAE have to be in Arabic?

Yes. Mandatory information must be in Arabic, usually with English, and Arabic is the language used to verify the label.

Can I use an Arabic sticker on Nigerian food packs?

Stickers may translate a label, but must not hide or contradict required information or change dates.

What country of origin should a Nigerian product show in Dubai?

"Nigeria". Regional terms such as "Africa" or "West Africa" are not an exact country of origin.

Do I need both production and expiry dates on food in the UAE?

Yes, both appear among the mandatory particulars in the labelling notes we read.
