Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Spain

Why Spanish landlords ask for seguro de impago

Rent-default insurance protects the landlord, but the insurer vets you. What it checks, why newcomers fail, and how to pass with a strong file.

The short answer

Seguro de impago is rent-default insurance taken out by the landlord: if the tenant stops paying, the insurer covers the rent for an agreed period and usually the legal costs of recovery. Because the insurer carries the risk, it vets the tenant first, mainly identity, income and its stability, and whether the tenant appears in debt files. Newcomers without Spanish payslips can pass by showing income, savings or a guarantor in a form the insurer accepts.

Many Nigerians looking for a flat in Madrid, Barcelona or Valencia are told the landlord "has insurance" and must "approve" them. That insurer is not the landlord and you are not its customer, but its decision often decides whether you get the keys. Understanding what it checks lets you prepare the right file.

What the insurance does

  • Pays the landlord rent the tenant fails to pay, up to the limits in the policy.
  • Often covers legal costs of recovering the property and the debt.
  • Gives the insurer the right to pursue the tenant for what it paid.

That last point matters. If the insurer pays out, the debt does not vanish: it can claim from you and, depending on the policy and the law, report the unpaid debt to a credit information file.

What the insurer checks

CheckWhat they look forNewcomer problem
IdentityPassport, NIE, TIETIE not yet issued
IncomePayslips, contract, tax returnNo Spanish payslips
StabilityPermanent contract, time with employerNew job or probation
Rent-to-income ratioRent a modest share of net income; each insurer sets its own ratioForeign income may be discounted
Debt filesWhether you appear in credit information filesNo Spanish history at all

An empty file is not a bad file, but some automated checks treat "no data" as a reason to ask for more documents. That is where newcomers lose time.

How a newcomer can pass

  1. Ask for the document list. The agency or landlord can tell you what the insurer wants. Prepare exactly that.
  2. Show income it can verify. A Spanish employment contract, even before the first payslip, helps. Foreign employment contracts and bank statements showing salary may be accepted, translated.
  3. Add a guarantor. A co-signer with Spanish income can bring the file within the insurer's rules.
  4. Show savings. Statements showing a year's rent can offset short history.
  5. Offer your work record. Once you have worked in Spain, the vida laboral shows dates and employers. You can download it yourself with an FNMT digital certificate, which the FNMT issues free to adults with an NIE.

Your data and the insurer

To assess you, the insurer processes personal data: your identity documents, income and the results of any debt-file search. Spanish and EU data protection law applies, and you have the right to ask what data is held about you and to have errors corrected. If you are told you appear in a debt file you do not recognise, ask which file it is, then contact that file's operator to see the entry and dispute it if it is wrong. Do not send more documents than the list asks for; a passport copy marked with the date and purpose ("for rental assessment only") is harder to misuse.

If the insurer says no

You can ask the landlord to accept other security instead: a bank guarantee, a guarantor, or advance rent (see renting without a nómina). The LAU still applies to the lease: a housing lease shorter than five years (seven with a company landlord) is extended annually to that minimum unless you give notice, so do not let anyone tell you a short term means you can be removed at will.

Worked example (illustrative)

Example: an insurer's rule (illustrative) is that rent must not exceed 35% of net monthly income. Rent €1,050; Amaka's net pay is €2,800. 35% of €2,800 = €980, so she falls €70 short on income alone. Adding a guarantor earning €1,500 net brings combined income to €4,300, and 35% of €4,300 = €1,505, which covers the rent. Real ratios vary by insurer.

Keep your record clean once you are in

  • Pay rent by transfer, on time, and keep proofs.
  • If you face a gap, talk to the landlord before the due date.
  • Debts reported to credit files can follow you to phone contracts and loans; see credit history in Spain.

Where Pryme fits

Insurers ask for proof of savings and income. A verifiable statement generated through VerifyDoc.ai can be checked as genuine. Holding euro alongside naira in Pryme, opened from any country, means rent money is not exposed to the naira rate when it is due.

Questions people ask

What is seguro de impago de alquiler?

Insurance a landlord buys that covers unpaid rent and usually legal costs if the tenant stops paying.

Who pays seguro de impago in Spain?

It is the landlord's policy. Read the lease to see whether any cost is passed to you before you sign.

Why was I rejected by the landlord's insurer?

Usually income it could not verify, a short work history, a high rent-to-income ratio or a debt record. Ask what was missing.

Can I rent if I fail the insurer's check?

Possibly, by offering a guarantor, a bank guarantee or advance rent, if the landlord agrees.
