Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Spain

Taking the Spanish driving test with a Nigerian licence

Why many Nigerian licence holders sit the Spanish test, how the DGT process works step by step, what the exam fee covers and the residence time limit.

The short answer

If your Nigerian licence cannot be exchanged in Spain, you get a Spanish permit the same way as a new driver: a medical and psychotechnical report, an exam application with the DGT fee (tasa 2.1), a theory test and a practical test. The DGT says one fee covers two exam sittings and a pass is kept for two years. How long you may drive on a Nigerian licence after becoming resident is set on the DGT's foreign-licence page; check it before you rely on your licence.

Many Nigerians arrive in Spain with years of driving behind them and are surprised to learn they may need to sit the Spanish test. Whether you can swap your licence depends on agreements between Spain and the issuing country, and on the DGT's current list. This guide covers the route when an exchange is not available: what the DGT process involves, what the fee covers and how to plan the cost. If you think an exchange may apply, read exchanging a Nigerian licence in Spain first.

Why the test is needed

Spain recognises foreign licences for a limited period and then expects residents to hold a Spanish or exchangeable licence. Where no exchange route exists, the only way to drive legally long term is to pass the Spanish exams. The limit is often reported as six months from becoming resident, but we could not confirm it on the DGT page we read in October 2026; the DGT's separate "Conducir con un permiso extranjero" section is the source to check.

The DGT process step by step

  1. Medical and psychotechnical report. Get an aptitude report at a Centro de Reconocimiento de Conductores, stating the licence class. The DGT says this certificate is valid for 90 days, so apply for the exam before it expires.
  2. Exam application and fee. If you go through a driving school (autoescuela), it files the application. You can also apply yourself online or in person; applying online goes faster with an FNMT digital certificate, which the FNMT issues free to adults holding an NIE. You pay the DGT fee, tasa 2.1, for the licence class.
  3. Theory test. A multiple-choice test on rules and safety, taken in Spanish or in other languages where offered.
  4. Practical test. Driving on public roads with an examiner.
  5. Provisional permit. When you pass the last test you receive a provisional permit valid for driving in Spain; the DGT says the card arrives at home in about a month and a half.

What the fee covers

Rule (DGT)What it means for you
One tasa covers two exam sittingsFail twice (same or different test) and you must apply again and pay again
A passed test is kept for two yearsPass theory, then you have two years to pass the practical
Psychotechnical report valid 90 daysBook the exam application within that window

The DGT page we read showed the tasa 2.1 amount as a placeholder, so we do not state it. Check the current amount on the DGT fees page before paying.

Planning the full cost

The DGT fee is the smallest part. Most people also pay a driving school for theory materials, practical lessons and the use of a dual-control car on test day. Prices vary by city and school. A planning example, with illustrative figures only:

Item (example)Amount (example)
Medical report€45
DGT feecheck DGT
School enrolment and theory€150
15 practical lessons at €35€525
Car for the test€70
Total excluding DGT fee€790

Arithmetic: 15 × €35 = €525; €45 + €150 + €525 + €70 = €790. An experienced driver may need fewer lessons, but Spanish test conventions (roundabouts, mirror checks, speed limits) still take practice.

Insurance while you learn and after you pass

Insurers price new Spanish licence holders as new drivers, even if you drove for twenty years in Nigeria. Ask insurers whether they take foreign driving experience into account; some will consider a letter from your Nigerian insurer showing years without claims, translated. Expect the first year to cost more, and compare quotes rather than accepting the dealer's or school's suggestion. If you plan to finance a car, the insurer and lender will both want the provisional permit or the card, so time the purchase after your pass.

Tips from experienced drivers

  • Practise the theory test in Spanish if you can: road signs and terms are easier to learn once.
  • Book lessons on the routes examiners use near your test centre.
  • Bring your NIE or TIE and passport to every exam.
  • Keep your Nigerian licence; you may still use it when visiting Nigeria.

Where Pryme fits

Paying a school in instalments while sending money home is easier with balances in the right currency. Pryme, opened from any country, holds euro and naira; you can send to Nigeria and use Swap, with the rate and fee shown before you approve. Thinking about a car next? See car finance as a non-EU resident.

Questions people ask

Can I drive in Spain with a Nigerian licence?

For a limited time after becoming resident. Check the period on the DGT's foreign-licence page; after it, you need a Spanish licence.

How many attempts does the DGT fee give me?

Two exam sittings. If you fail twice, you apply again and pay a new fee.

Do I need a driving school in Spain?

Not by law for the application, which you can file yourself, but most people use a school for lessons and the test car.

How long is a passed theory test valid?

The DGT keeps a passed test for two years; if you do not finish within that time, you repeat all tests.
