Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to save for land or a house in Nigeria

Land and housing are long goals with hidden costs. How to price the full purchase, save in stages, check the title and avoid the scams that target buyers.

The short answer

Price the full purchase, not just the plot or house: add survey, legal, agency and title documentation costs, plus a buffer. Save in stages with separate pots for searches and deposits, never pay before an independent lawyer has checked the title, and keep your emergency fund apart from the property fund.

Why property goals take longer than people expect

Owning land or a house is one of the most common long-term goals in Nigeria, and one of the easiest to get wrong. The asking price is only part of the cost. Buyers also pay for a survey, legal work, agency fees and the documents that prove ownership, and if they plan to build, the cost of materials rises over the years it takes to save. A clear plan prices all of this up front and breaks it into stages.

The full cost of buying land

Ask the seller, your lawyer and a surveyor for the costs that apply to the plot you are considering. They vary by state and by the type of title.

  • Purchase price, after negotiation.
  • Survey plan, and a check of the survey against government records.
  • Legal fees for searches, the deed of assignment or contract, and registration.
  • Agency fees, if an agent introduced the land.
  • Title documents and any state consent or registration fees.
  • Community or development levies where they apply.
  • Fencing or a basic structure to show possession, if you will not build soon.

Worked example

The figures below are illustrations, not quotes or official fees.

Line (example)Amount
Plot price₦6,000,000
Survey and survey checks₦500,000
Legal fees and searches₦600,000
Agency fee₦300,000
Title documentation and registration₦800,000
Fencing₦600,000
Buffer (10%)₦880,000
Total target₦9,680,000

Saved over 36 months, that is about ₦269,000 a month. The documentation line is the one buyers most often underestimate, and it is the line that protects everything else.

Save in stages

A property fund works better as three pots than one, because the costs arrive in a known order.

  1. Search pot: enough to pay a lawyer and surveyor to check a plot before you commit. You may spend this more than once if early searches turn up problems.
  2. Purchase pot: the price and agency fee, locked until you have a clean search result.
  3. Documentation pot: survey, legal, title and registration costs, which follow the purchase.

If you plan to build later, start a separate building pot after the land is secured. Building costs depend heavily on materials whose prices move with the exchange rate and inflation, so review the target at least twice a year. NBS figures put headline inflation at 14.63% in September 2026.

Protect your money from land fraud

Land fraud is one of the most damaging financial losses a Nigerian family can suffer. Most of it can be avoided with a few rules.

  • Use your own lawyer, not the seller's, to search the title at the state land registry before you pay anything beyond a small search fee.
  • Visit the land in person, ideally more than once, and speak to neighbours and the community about who owns it.
  • Make sure the person selling is the person or family named on the documents, and that family land has the consent of the right family members.
  • Pay by bank transfer to an account in the seller's name, never in cash, and get receipts for every payment.
  • Be wary of plots priced well below others nearby and of pressure to pay quickly. See how to spot investment scams, which covers many of the same tactics.

Keep a property file

From the first search, keep one folder, paper and digital, with every survey, search report, receipt, agreement and letter from your lawyer. Property disputes can surface years later, and the family member who handled the purchase may not be the one who needs the papers. A complete file is cheap to keep and expensive to rebuild.

Saving versus a mortgage

Mortgage finance in Nigeria is limited and usually priced with reference to wider interest rates; the CBN set the Monetary Policy Rate at 23% at its September 2026 meeting. Most buyers save for land in cash and build in stages. If you consider a mortgage or a developer's payment plan, compare the total you will pay with the cash price and read our guide to APR vs flat fee. Do not commit your emergency fund to a deposit; see where to keep your emergency fund.

Where Pryme fits

In the Pryme app you can keep the search, purchase and documentation pots as separate naira Savings Boxes, locking the purchase money in a Fixed Box and keeping search money flexible. Rates are shown in the app before you commit. When you pay a seller or lawyer, you can generate a verifiable receipt through Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai, which anyone you share it with can check is genuine and unaltered. Relatives abroad can contribute to the same Personal Account in GBP, USD or EUR and convert with Swap when you choose.

Questions people ask

How much do I need to buy land in Nigeria?

Add the plot price to survey, legal, agency, title and registration costs and a buffer. Ask a lawyer and surveyor for the costs that apply in your state.

How do I verify land before buying in Nigeria?

Instruct your own lawyer to search the title at the state land registry, visit the land, and confirm the seller matches the documents before paying.

Is it better to buy land or save money?

Land can protect against inflation over time, but only with clean title. Keep an emergency fund separate before committing savings to land.

Can I pay for land in instalments?

Some sellers and developers offer payment plans. Get the full terms in writing, compare the total with the cash price, and do not pay before a title search.
