Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Renouncing Nigerian citizenship: the process and effects

Section 29 of the Constitution, the Ministry of Interior application, the documents and fees a mission lists, and what changes once renunciation is registered.

The short answer

Under section 29 of the Constitution, a Nigerian of full age (18 or over, or any married woman) renounces citizenship by a declaration registered by the President; once registered, the person ceases to be a citizen. The application goes to the Ministry of Interior through ecitibiz.interior.gov.ng, and in April 2026 the Minister directed the NIS to withdraw and deactivate passports held by people whose renunciation has been approved.

First, check whether you need to renounce at all

Many Nigerians abroad assume they must give up Nigerian citizenship to take another. That depends on how you became Nigerian and on the other country's rules. A transcription of section 28 of the Constitution says citizens other than by birth forfeit Nigerian citizenship if they acquire another citizenship, unless they are citizens of that country by birth, and that registered or naturalised citizens must renounce the other citizenship within five months. Citizens by birth are not covered by that forfeiture rule. Some other countries, however, require new citizens to give up previous nationalities. The Ministry of Interior describes its renunciation service as being for citizens who want to give up Nigerian citizenship to take up another country's, which is the usual reason.

What section 29 says

  • Subsection 1: a citizen of full age who wishes to renounce Nigerian citizenship makes a declaration in the prescribed manner.
  • Subsection 2: the President causes the declaration to be registered, and on registration the person ceases to be a citizen of Nigeria.
  • Subsection 3: the President may withhold registration if the declaration is made during a war in which Nigeria is physically involved, or if registration would otherwise be contrary to public policy.
  • Subsection 4: full age means 18 or over, and any married woman is deemed to be of full age.

The process

The Ministry of Interior's citizenship services portal, ecitibiz.interior.gov.ng, lists Renunciation of Nigerian Citizenship (section 29) among its services, though its overview page does not list documents or fees. The Consulate-General of Nigeria in Atlanta publishes a fuller list, read in October 2026:

  1. Write a formal application letter to the Ministry of Interior.
  2. Obtain the renunciation form (described as Form G) from the Ministry or online at ecitibiz.interior.gov.ng.
  3. Swear an oath of renunciation before a High Court or Magistrate Court.
  4. Attach your birth certificate, a local government or state indigeneship letter, two passport photographs and a scan of your Nigerian international passport.
  5. Attach a letter from the country whose citizenship you seek, confirming it will be granted on renunciation.
  6. Pay the ₦20,000 processing fee generated online, then ₦50,000 on approval of the request.

The Atlanta page does not state processing times or say that the consulate itself accepts applications; it points applicants to the Ministry. If you are applying from abroad, ask your mission whether it can witness the oath or forward documents, and use only the Ministry's portal for payment.

Example costs

Example, using the Atlanta figures: ₦20,000 processing plus ₦50,000 on approval comes to ₦70,000 in Ministry fees, before the cost of swearing the oath, certified copies and postage.

What changes after registration

AreaWhat the sources say
CitizenshipYou cease to be a citizen of Nigeria on registration (section 29(2))
Nigerian passportIn April 2026 the Minister of Interior directed the NIS to withdraw and deactivate passports held by people whose renunciation the President has approved, saying former citizens can no longer hold any Nigerian sovereign document
Entering NigeriaYou travel as a foreign national, so check visa rules for your new passport; see entering Nigeria on a foreign passport
ChildrenSection 29 covers the person making the declaration; the Ministry pages read do not set out effects on children, so ask the Ministry about any child's position

Several practical matters are not addressed on the official pages read: how existing Nigerian bank accounts, BVN, NIN, land interests or pensions are treated after renunciation. Before renouncing, ask your bank, your pension administrator and a Nigerian property lawyer how each will be affected, and get answers in writing.

Before you apply: questions to settle

  1. Does your new country require renunciation, or only allow dual nationality? Get the answer from its official immigration page.
  2. Are you Nigerian by birth, registration or naturalisation? Section 28 treats these differently.
  3. Do you hold land, shares, a pension or bank accounts in Nigeria, and how will each be treated?
  4. Is any child's citizenship tied to yours, and what will happen to it?
  5. Have you kept copies of every Nigerian document, including old passports and your birth certificate, before any passport is withdrawn?

If any answer is unclear, wait. A renunciation that has been registered cannot simply be undone.

Where Pryme fits

If you hold money in Nigeria, review it before your status changes. A Pryme multicurrency account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, and Swap converts only when you choose, with the rate shown first. See also Nigeria's dual nationality rules.

Questions people ask

Do I have to renounce Nigerian citizenship to become British or Canadian?

Not under Nigerian law if you are Nigerian by birth; section 28's forfeiture rule applies to citizens other than by birth. The other country's own rules decide whether it requires renunciation.

How do I renounce Nigerian citizenship from abroad?

Apply to the Ministry of Interior through ecitibiz.interior.gov.ng with Form G, a sworn oath of renunciation, supporting documents and the fees. The Atlanta consulate lists the documents.

How much does it cost to renounce Nigerian citizenship?

The Atlanta consulate lists a ₦20,000 processing fee and ₦50,000 on approval, as at October 2026.

Can I keep my Nigerian passport after renouncing?

No. In April 2026 the Minister of Interior directed the NIS to withdraw and deactivate passports of people whose renunciation has been approved.
