Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Regaining Nigerian citizenship after giving it up

The Constitution sets out how citizenship is renounced but no route to resume it. What the Ministry of Interior lists instead, and the limits of each route.

The short answer

There is no published route to resume Nigerian citizenship after renunciation: section 29 of the Constitution says a person ceases to be a citizen once the declaration is registered, and the Ministry of Interior's citizenship services list renunciation, registration and naturalisation but no resumption. A former citizen would have to ask the Ministry whether registration or naturalisation is open to them, and the conditions of those routes are demanding.

Why this is hard

Section 29 of the Constitution sets out how a Nigerian of full age renounces citizenship: a declaration in the prescribed manner, registered by the President, after which the person ceases to be a citizen. The provision does not describe any way back. The Ministry of Interior's citizenship services overview, read in October 2026, lists nine services: citizenship by naturalisation, two forms of citizenship by registration, special immigrant status, temporary residence permits, renunciation, confirmation of marriage certificates, attestation of marital status and what it calls citizenship by investment, which it describes as granting permanent residency. None is a resumption or restoration service for former citizens.

The routes the Ministry lists, and their limits

RouteWho the Ministry says it is forLimits for a former citizen
Registration, section 26(2B)People aged 18 or over born outside Nigeria with a grandparent who is a Nigerian citizenOnly fits if you were born outside Nigeria and a grandparent is a citizen; whether renunciation affects eligibility is not stated
Registration, section 26(2A)Foreign women who are or have been married to a NigerianOnly for women married to a Nigerian
Naturalisation, section 27Foreigners who have lived in Nigeria for 15 years or moreRequires long residence in Nigeria
Special immigrant statusForeigners married to a Nigerian for at least five yearsA residence status, not citizenship

The Ministry's overview does not list documents or fees for any of these services.

The catch with registration and naturalisation

Citizenship gained by registration or naturalisation is not the same as citizenship by birth. A transcription of section 28 of the Constitution says citizens other than by birth forfeit Nigerian citizenship if they acquire another, unless they are citizens of that other country by birth, and that registered or naturalised citizens must renounce their other citizenship within five months. In practice, a former Nigerian who took, say, British citizenship by naturalisation and then regained Nigerian citizenship by registration could be required to give up the British one. That reverses the reason most people renounced in the first place.

What renunciation already changed

  • Your Nigerian passport. In April 2026 the Minister of Interior directed the NIS to withdraw and deactivate passports held by people whose renunciation the President has approved.
  • How you enter Nigeria. You travel on your foreign passport and follow the visa rules for that nationality; see entering Nigeria on a foreign passport.
  • Residence. If you want to live in Nigeria again without citizenship, the Ministry lists a temporary residence permit and, for those married to a Nigerian for five years, special immigrant status.

If you have not yet registered a renunciation

A declaration only takes effect on registration. If you applied but registration has not happened, ask the Ministry of Interior, in writing, whether you can withdraw the application. The pages read do not describe a withdrawal process, so get the answer before relying on it.

And if you are only considering renunciation, check first whether you need it. Citizens by birth are not covered by section 28's forfeiture rule, so the question is whether your new country requires it. Our guides to renouncing Nigerian citizenship and dual nationality rules cover this.

Your children's position

Section 29 speaks of the person who made the declaration. The official pages read do not set out how a parent's renunciation affects children, including children born before or after it. If your child's Nigerian citizenship matters to you, ask the Ministry directly and see proving citizenship through one Nigerian parent.

Steps if you want to try

  1. Gather your renunciation papers: the registered declaration and any Ministry correspondence.
  2. Write to the Ministry of Interior explaining your history and asking which, if any, citizenship route is open to you.
  3. Check against section 26 and 27 conditions whether you qualify on grandparent, marriage or residence grounds.
  4. Ask about section 28's effect on your foreign citizenship before applying.
  5. Use only ecitibiz.interior.gov.ng for applications and payments.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account can be opened from any country, whatever your nationality; see opening an account.

Questions people ask

Can I get my Nigerian citizenship back after renouncing it?

No resumption route is published. The Constitution says you cease to be a citizen on registration, and the Ministry of Interior lists no restoration service. Ask the Ministry whether registration or naturalisation is open to you.

Can I apply for citizenship by registration as a former Nigerian?

The Ministry lists registration for people 18 or over born outside Nigeria with a Nigerian grandparent, and for foreign women married to Nigerians. Whether renunciation affects eligibility is not stated.

Would regaining citizenship by registration affect my British or Canadian citizenship?

Possibly. Section 28 says registered or naturalised Nigerian citizens must renounce other citizenships within five months, unless citizens of that country by birth.

Can I still visit Nigeria after renouncing?

Yes, on your foreign passport, following the visa rules for that nationality.
