Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Dual nationality in Nigeria: who can hold two passports

Nigerians by birth can hold another citizenship; those who became Nigerian by registration or naturalisation face a different rule. The detail.

The short answer

Nigerian citizens by birth may hold another nationality without losing Nigerian citizenship: section 28 of the Constitution, which removes citizenship for taking another nationality, applies only to people who are not citizens by birth. Those who became Nigerian by registration or naturalisation forfeit it if they acquire another nationality other than by birth, and must renounce other citizenships within five months of registering. Whether you can keep both also depends on your other country's law.

The rule in one table

How you are NigerianCan you also hold another citizenship?Source
By birth (section 25)Yes. Section 28's forfeiture rule does not apply to youConstitution, ss.25 and 28
By registration (section 26)Only another citizenship you hold by birth; any other must be renounced within five monthsConstitution, s.28(2)
By naturalisation (section 27)As for registrationConstitution, s.28(2)
Registered or naturalised, later naturalises elsewhereNo. Nigerian citizenship is forfeitedConstitution, s.28(1)

Who is a citizen by birth

Section 25 gives citizenship by birth to people born in Nigeria before independence with an indigenous parent or grandparent, people born in Nigeria after 1 October 1960 with a citizen parent or grandparent, and people born outside Nigeria with a citizen parent. Most Nigerians abroad, and most of their children born abroad, are in one of these groups. For them, naturalising as British, American, Canadian or Irish does not cost Nigerian citizenship under Nigerian law.

Who is caught by section 28

Section 28(1) says a person who is a citizen other than by birth forfeits Nigerian citizenship if they acquire or retain the citizenship of another country of which they are not a citizen by birth. Section 28(2) makes registration or naturalisation conditional on renouncing any other citizenship within five months, unless the person is a citizen of that other country by birth.

Two groups this matters for:

Three worked cases

Example 1: born in Ibadan, naturalised British
Nigerian by birth under section 25(1)(b). Becoming British does not trigger section 28, so she holds both, subject to UK law, which GOV.UK says allows dual citizenship.
Example 2: born in Houston to a Nigerian father
Nigerian by birth under section 25(1)(c) and American by birth. Both citizenships are by birth, so there is nothing to renounce on either side under Nigerian law.
Example 3: Ghanaian wife registered as Nigerian, later naturalises in Canada
Nigerian by registration. On registering she had to renounce Ghanaian citizenship within five months unless Ghanaian by birth. Acquiring Canadian citizenship later, which is not hers by birth, would mean forfeiting Nigerian citizenship under section 28(1).

These are illustrations of the constitutional text, not rulings on any real person. The Constitution does not set out a procedure for how forfeiture is recorded, so if you are in the third group, ask the Ministry of Interior and a Nigerian lawyer before you act.

Your other country decides its half

Nigeria allowing dual nationality does not mean the other country does. GOV.UK says the UK allows dual citizenship and tells readers to check the other country's rules with its embassy. Some countries require new citizens to give up previous nationalities, and some do not recognise a second nationality at all. Check the naturalisation guidance of the country you are joining before you assume you can keep both.

Travelling as a dual national

Canada's travel advice for Nigeria, updated in October 2026, says dual Canadian-Nigerian citizens must enter and leave Nigeria on their Nigerian passport, and that Canadian consular help may be limited. In practice:

Renunciation is a separate decision

Some Nigerians renounce because their new country requires it. Section 29 lets a citizen of full age renounce by declaration; once the President registers it, the person ceases to be a citizen. In April 2026 Voice of Nigeria reported that the Minister of Interior directed the NIS to withdraw and deactivate passports held by people whose renunciation had been approved. There is no published route back, so do not renounce unless your other country requires it. See renouncing Nigerian citizenship.

One practical point: whichever passports you hold, keep your NIN, BVN and passport names in the same order. Missions ask for NIN details that match the passport you are renewing, and a mismatch between records can hold up a renewal or a bank update.

Where Pryme fits

Dual nationals often keep money in two systems. A Pryme personal account can be opened from any country and holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local account details for each, so earnings abroad and obligations at home sit in one place. See multicurrency accounts.

Questions people ask

Does Nigeria allow dual citizenship?

Yes for citizens by birth. Section 28 of the Constitution removes citizenship for acquiring another nationality only for people who became Nigerian by registration or naturalisation.

Will I lose my Nigerian citizenship if I become British?

Not if you are Nigerian by birth. If you became Nigerian by registration or naturalisation, section 28 can apply.

Can I have a Nigerian passport and a US passport?

Nigerian law allows citizens by birth to hold both. Canada's travel advice says dual citizens must enter and leave Nigeria on the Nigerian passport, so keep it valid.

Do I need to tell NIS I have another nationality?

The pages we read do not set a general duty to notify. Follow your mission's document list when you apply for a Nigerian passport; it may ask to see your other passport.
