Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Codes & registration

How to register on TaxPro Max

Registering on TaxPro Max, linking your TIN, filing a return to get a DIN, and generating a payment reference to pay through Remita or a bank.

The short answer

TaxPro Max is the federal tax authority's online portal (taxpromax.firs.gov.ng) where companies register with their TIN or CAC number, file returns and pay. Filing a return generates a Document Identity Number (DIN), and the system then creates a payment reference that you pay online through Remita or at a designated bank, according to CITN's guide to the platform.

What TaxPro Max is

TaxPro Max is the online filing and payment system of the federal tax authority, now the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS, formerly FIRS). CITN's guide records that the portal opened on 7 June 2021 for naira-denominated taxes and that its address is taxpromax.firs.gov.ng. Companies use it for company income tax (CIT), VAT and other federal taxes, and it is where the payment references used at banks are generated.

Before you register

  • Your company's TIN; if you do not have it, see company TIN after CAC registration.
  • The CAC RC or BN number, which Techeconomy reports is used to pull business details from CAC.
  • An email address and phone number the company controls, not an agent's personal ones.
  • Your financial statements and schedules if you plan to file straight away.

Registering and linking your TIN

CITN's guide says taxpayers "can access the portal by registering after which they must input their log-in details in order to file returns". It does not set out every screen, and the layout has changed over time. The usual sequence is:

  1. Open the portal and choose to sign up as a new user.
  2. Enter the company's TIN (or the RC number where prompted) so the system can find the taxpayer record.
  3. Confirm the details it shows. If they are wrong, stop and fix the record with your tax office before continuing.
  4. Set up the login, verify the email address and log in.
  5. Check the dashboard: the taxes listed as due should match what your company is registered for.

If the portal cannot find your TIN, search the JTB verification page first to confirm the number.

Filing a return

CITN's guide describes the CIT process: log in, click "Taxes Due", then "Process" next to the tax. Complete the schedules, after which the CIT form is generated. Choose the currency, enter total revenue, tick the declaration and pick a payment option. CITN notes that full payment or 2, 3 or 4 instalments are offered. Upload supporting documents: CITN says they must be PDF, except the notes to the accounts, which are Excel, with a 200KB file size limit.

For VAT, the guide says to log in, go to taxes due, choose the tax type and "Process", complete the schedules (including exempt and zero-rated sales), enter total sales excluding VAT, and submit with the declaration ticked.

Once a return is filed, the system generates a Document Identity Number (DIN). CITN states the DIN is required to remit the tax through the portal.

Paying: the payment reference

OptionHow it works (CITN)
Pay onlineConnects to Remita with your name, phone, email, amount and reference pre-filled
Pay at bankTake the payment reference to any designated bank
After paymentConfirm the payment on the portal and print the acknowledgement slip

Worked example

Example only. A company files a CIT return showing tax due of ₦2,400,000 and chooses 4 instalments. Each instalment is ₦600,000 (₦2,400,000 ÷ 4). The portal generates a payment reference for the first, which the finance officer pays through Remita and then confirms on the portal, printing the acknowledgement for the file.

Problems people meet on the portal

TIN not recognised
Confirm it on the JTB page; an old FIRS TIN may need updating by your tax office
Wrong taxes listed as due
Your registration may not reflect your activities; CITN's guide says to complete a tax update form at the local tax office for VAT
Upload rejected
Check the 200KB limit and that only notes to the accounts are in Excel
Payment made but not showing
Keep the Remita or bank receipt and confirm the payment on the portal; contact your tax office if it does not reconcile

Keep a dated folder of every acknowledgement and receipt. When you later apply for a tax clearance certificate, those records are what show that returns were filed and taxes paid.

Using an agent or tax practitioner

Returns can be filed by the taxpayer or an approved agent. CITN reminds practitioners that they must file with their personalised stamps and seals. If you prefer paper, CITN says the local tax office can upload documents for you, but you should go at least two weeks before the deadline.

Where Pryme fits

The Finance agent on a Pryme Business Account can prepare schedules and a filing checklist; a person approves above a set ceiling and actions are recorded. Payments of the generated reference are made through the channels NRS accepts. For a later step, see company tax clearance from NRS.

Questions people ask

How do I register my company on TaxPro Max?

Open taxpromax.firs.gov.ng, sign up with the company's TIN, confirm the details shown, set your login and verify your email. Check nrs.gov.ng for the portal currently in use.

What is DIN on TaxPro Max?

The Document Identity Number generated when you file a return. CITN says it is needed to remit the tax through the portal.

Can I pay tax on TaxPro Max with Remita?

Yes. CITN's guide says the online option connects to Remita with the reference pre-filled; you can also pay at a designated bank.

What file size does TaxPro Max accept?

CITN's guide gives a 200KB limit, PDF for documents and Excel for notes to the accounts.
