Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Setting up a monthly transfer to Nigeria: the options

The ways to send a fixed amount to Nigeria every month, which senders confirm scheduled transfers, and the exchange-rate catch with fixed amounts.

The short answer

Few apps that send to Nigeria publish a scheduled-transfer feature for the route; Wise documents scheduled transfers, while the Remitly and WorldRemit pages we checked say nothing about them. Most people use a saved recipient and a monthly reminder instead. Whichever you choose, decide whether to fix the amount you send or the naira that arrives, because the rate moves between months.

Monthly support for parents, a sibling's rent or a child's allowance are the kinds of payments most Nigerians abroad would like to set and forget. The options are more limited than for a domestic standing order, and fixing the amount has a catch that is easy to miss.

What senders confirm

ProviderWhat its own page saysChecked
WiseHelp page on USD transfers describes scheduled transfers; to stop one, contact Wise at least 3 business days before the payment dateOct 2026
Remitly (Canada to Nigeria page)No recurring or scheduled transfer information on the pageOct 2026
WorldRemit (Ireland FAQ)No recurring transfer information foundOct 2026

Absence from a page is not proof a feature does not exist; check in the app. But if you cannot find a scheduled option, do not assume one is coming. Before relying on Wise, check that it pays naira on your route: Wise naira payout options covers this.

The three practical options

Scheduled transfer in the app
Where offered, the app takes the money on a set date and sends it. Least effort, but the rate is whatever applies that day.
Saved recipient plus a reminder
You send manually each month in a few taps. You see the rate before you approve and can choose a better day within the week.
Pre-funding a balance
Some apps let you hold a balance. A domestic standing order from your bank tops it up, and you send from it. Check whether your app accepts this and whether it charges for holding money.

The exchange-rate catch

A recurring transfer usually fixes the amount you send. The naira your family receives then moves with the rate. If they budget in naira for rent or food, a fall in what arrives is a real problem; a rise is a windfall nobody planned for.

Month (example)You sendExample rate (₦ per £)Naira received
January£2002,000₦400,000
February£2001,900₦380,000
March£2002,100₦420,000

These rates are invented for illustration and are not current. Over the three months your family receives ₦1,200,000 in total, but anywhere from ₦380,000 to ₦420,000 in a single month. The alternative is to fix the naira amount, say ₦400,000, and let the pounds you send vary: £200 in January, about £210.53 in February and about £190.48 in March at those example rates. Fewer apps support a fixed-receive scheduled transfer, which is another reason many senders prefer a manual monthly send.

Telling your family what to expect

Whichever option you choose, agree two things with the person receiving the money: the date it should arrive, and whether the amount is fixed in your currency or in naira. If you fix the amount you send, tell them it will vary a little each month so they budget on a cautious figure. If you fix the naira, you take the rate risk yourself and should keep some room in your own budget for a month when the rate moves against you.

If a monthly payment is held

Regular payments to the same person rarely cause problems, but a scheduled payment can still stop for a review, a changed bank account or a card that has expired. Check the transfer status a day after the scheduled date rather than waiting for a call from home. If a payment is held, the app will usually say what it needs; why a transfer to Nigeria is pending for days covers the common causes.

Practical tips

  • Pick a date a few days before the money is needed, so a review or a public holiday does not make it late. December cut-offs and delays explains the busy season.
  • Keep the recipient's details saved and check them if they change banks.
  • Use the same reference each month, such as "Mum support Oct", so both of you can match payments.
  • Set a rate alert if you have flexibility on timing; see naira rate alerts before sending.
  • Keep the receipts; a year of regular support is easy to show if anyone asks.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account can be opened from any country and hold your salary currency alongside naira. The Personal Assistant, named Eva by default, can remind you of monthly family payments and prepare them, but nothing moves until you approve. Swap shows the rate and the fee before you convert, and Send pays the naira to your family's bank account.

Questions people ask

Can I set up a standing order to Nigeria?

Not as a normal domestic standing order. Some apps offer scheduled transfers; Wise documents them. Otherwise use a saved recipient and a monthly reminder.

Does Remitly have recurring transfers to Nigeria?

Remitly's Canada to Nigeria page did not mention one when we checked in October 2026. Check in the app.

Why did my mum get less naira this month?

If you send a fixed amount in pounds or dollars, the naira received changes with the rate on the day.

How do I cancel a Wise scheduled transfer?

Wise says to contact it at least 3 business days before the scheduled payment date.
