Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Transfer to Nigeria pending for days: what is happening

Funding, compliance review and the Nigerian bank's own processing all add time. How to tell which stage you are stuck at, and when to escalate.

The short answer

A transfer to Nigeria that stays pending for days is usually stuck at one of three stages: your payment has not cleared, the provider is running an identity or compliance review, or the Nigerian bank or payout partner has not applied the funds. Check the status wording, answer any request for information, and escalate in writing once the delivery date the provider gave you has passed.

"Pending" is a catch-all word. It can mean the provider has not yet received your money, that a compliance analyst is looking at your account, or that the naira has left and is waiting at a bank in Lagos. Each has a different fix, and only one of them is something you can speed up yourself.

The three places a transfer waits

StageWhat is happeningSigns in the appWhat you can do
1. FundingYour card or bank payment to the provider has not settled"Awaiting payment", "Processing payment"Check your bank shows the debit; bank-funded transfers clear slower than card
2. ReviewIdentity, source-of-funds or fraud checks"On hold", "Action needed", an email asking for documentsReply fast with what is asked
3. PayoutThe money has left the provider; the Nigerian bank or payout partner is applying it"In progress", "Sent", "Paid out"Ask the recipient to check; ask the provider for the payout reference

Funding delays

Paying by bank transfer, bill payment or direct debit can add a business day or more before the provider even starts. If you sent on a Friday evening, a weekend sits between your payment and its arrival. Card funding is usually faster.

Compliance review

Regulated money transfer firms must know who you are and why you are sending, and they review transfers that look unusual for your profile: a first large amount, a new recipient, a change of address. Western Union describes "On hold" as "taking us longer than usual because we are verifying a few things", with reasons that include "We're verifying your identity" and "Your bank is reviewing your transfer". Its UK tracking FAQ says a transfer "In progress" for more than 48 hours warrants a query. Reviews do not resolve themselves while an email from the provider sits unread in your spam folder. See why a first transfer takes longer.

Payout and bank-side delays

Once money has left the provider, it depends on the receiving end. LemFi's help centre says a transfer "In Progress" has left the wallet and is being processed by LemFi or the recipient's bank or mobile money provider, and that after the estimate passes the recipient should check with their bank. For bank wires, the chain of correspondent banks adds its own time: HSBC UK says payments outside the EEA can take up to 4 working days, and Lloyds says up to 5 working days for most other countries. A name or account mismatch at the Nigerian bank can stop a credit entirely; see name mismatch holds.

Is it normal? A rough guide

  • App transfer to a Nigerian naira account, card-funded: usually same day. Days pending points to a review or a payout problem.
  • App transfer funded by bank payment: allow the funding time first, then the payout.
  • SWIFT wire: several working days is within what banks state, especially across a weekend or a holiday in either country.
  • December: volumes rise and bank holidays cluster; see December transfer delays.

When and how to escalate

  1. Wait until the delivery date or time the provider showed you has passed. Before then, support will usually tell you it is still in progress.
  2. Contact support with the reference and ask which stage the transfer is at and what is outstanding.
  3. If the provider says it has paid out, ask for the payout reference or session ID and give it to the recipient, who can ask their bank to trace the credit.
  4. If the problem continues, make a formal complaint in writing.

Complaint time limits that help you

In the UK, the FCA's complaint rules (DISP 1.6) give payment and e-money firms until the end of 15 business days to send a final response, or up to 35 business days with a holding reply explaining the delay. After that you can go to the Financial Ombudsman Service. In the US, the CFPB says that money not available by the date disclosed on your receipt can count as an error: you have 180 days to report it and the provider generally has 90 days to investigate, then must refund or resend for certain errors. Other countries have their own regulators; your provider's terms name them.

What the recipient can check in Nigeria

If the provider says the money has been paid out, the recipient should check their account history rather than waiting for an alert, which may not arrive. If nothing shows, they can ask their bank to look for an incoming credit with the reference the provider supplied. Most app payouts arrive as local naira transfers, so the bank can search for the credit by date, amount and sender reference. The Nigeria library has more on this in why a foreign transfer is delayed.

Where Pryme fits

A naira transfer from Pryme Send shows the rate and the fee before you approve, and every completed transfer has a receipt you can share with the recipient's bank.

Questions people ask

Why is my transfer to Nigeria still pending after 3 days?

Most often an unanswered identity or compliance request, slow bank funding, or a problem applying the money at the Nigerian bank. Ask your provider which stage it is at.

Is it safe if my transfer is on hold?

A hold means the money has not been paid out. Respond to the provider through its official app or website only; do not share codes with anyone who contacts you.

How long can a provider keep a transfer under review?

Providers do not publish a fixed limit. Complaint rules, such as the FCA's 15 business days for payment firms, apply once you complain formally.

The app says paid but my family has nothing. What now?

Get the payout reference from the provider and have the recipient ask their bank to trace the incoming credit.
