Ten years, one trunk

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Receiving money from Nigeria at Barclays: details to give

The details a Nigerian sender needs to pay your Barclays account, including IBAN, BIC BARCGB22, your name and address, and who pays the charges.

The short answer

To receive money from Nigeria into Barclays, give the sender your IBAN, the BIC (SWIFT code) BARCGB22, your sort code, your full name and address, and the amount and currency. Barclays also says you should agree with the sender who will pay the charges, because that choice decides whether fees come out of the money before it reaches you.

A payment from a Nigerian bank to Barclays travels as an international transfer, usually over SWIFT, and Nigerian bank forms ask for more than a UK sort code and account number. Missing or mistyped details are the most common reason money from home is delayed, returned or held for checks. This guide lists exactly what to give, from Barclays' own help page, and explains the charge options the sender will see.

The details to give

DetailWhere to find it
IBANOn your statement, or from Barclays' IBAN tool
BIC / SWIFT codeBARCGB22
Sort code and account numberYour banking app or card
Your full nameExactly as on the account
Your addressThe address Barclays holds for you
Amount and currencyAgree with the sender in advance

HSBC's explainer on the same subject is a useful reminder of the terms: the BIC and SWIFT code are the same thing, and you need both IBAN and BIC to receive money from outside the UK. Send the details as text, not a photograph, so the sender can copy them exactly.

Agreeing who pays the charges

Nigerian bank transfer forms usually offer three charge options. Barclays describes them on its international payments page from the sending side:

  • OUR: the sender pays all charges, including the receiving bank's, so the full amount should arrive.
  • SHA (shared): the sender pays their bank's charges and you bear the rest, including any intermediary deductions.
  • BEN: all charges are deducted from the payment.

Intermediary banks may still take a fee in some cases. If you need an exact amount to arrive, for example a deposit for a flat, ask the sender to choose OUR and add a margin.

Barclays' receiving fee

Barclays' current help page does not show a receiving fee. The most recent tariff we could open is dated March 2023 and listed receiving an international payment of up to £100 free and over £100 at £6, unless the sender paid all fees. Because that document is old, check Barclays' current tariff before relying on it.

On the Nigerian side

The sender will usually pay from a dollar or pound domiciliary account, because naira cannot be sent abroad as naira. Under the CBN's 2026 Foreign Exchange Manual, reporting in June 2026 described domiciliary account holders as having unrestricted access to their balances for eligible transactions, and said Form A is not mandatory for transfers funded from such accounts. Reports differed on how a $10,000 daily figure applies, so the sender should ask their bank. The bank may also ask for the purpose of payment; "family support" or "gift" should match reality. More in wiring from a domiciliary account to a UK account.

Why payments from Nigeria get delayed

  • Name mismatch. A nickname, missing middle name or a joint-account name typed differently can trigger a manual check or a return.
  • Incomplete IBAN. Nigerian forms sometimes have short fields; make sure the full IBAN went in, not just the account number.
  • Missing address. International payments carry the beneficiary's address; leave it out and the payment may be held.
  • Purpose questions. Either bank may ask what the payment is for. A clear, true answer usually ends the check quickly.
  • Weekends and holidays in either country add days.

If money has not arrived after a few working days, ask the sender for the payment confirmation from their bank, including the SWIFT reference, and give it to Barclays so it can trace the payment. Do not ask the sender to send the money a second time until the first payment has been traced or returned, or you risk two payments in transit.

What to check first

  1. Your name on the form matches your Barclays account name exactly.
  2. The IBAN is copied in full, with no spaces lost.
  3. The BIC is BARCGB22.
  4. The currency is agreed; if it is dollars, Barclays will convert it to pounds.
  5. The charge option is agreed.
  6. You know why the money is coming, in case Barclays asks; see when your UK bank asks why money came from Nigeria.

Where Pryme fits

Family in Nigeria can also pay you without an international transfer. A Pryme multicurrency account opened from the UK has its own naira account number, so they send a local naira transfer and you choose when to convert. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's services are provided through regulated partners. For the sending direction from Barclays, see Barclays' overseas charge option.

Questions people ask

What is Barclays' SWIFT code for receiving money from Nigeria?

BARCGB22, according to Barclays' help page. The sender also needs your IBAN, name and address.

Where do I find my Barclays IBAN?

On your statement or through Barclays' IBAN tool.

Who pays the charges on a transfer from Nigeria to Barclays?

Whoever you agree. OUR means the sender pays all, SHA splits them, BEN deducts them from the payment.

Does Barclays charge to receive money from abroad?

Its 2023 tariff listed £6 above £100 unless the sender paid all fees. Check the current tariff.
