Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Barclays overseas charge option: paying the Nigerian side's fees

Barclays lets you choose who pays the charges on an international payment. How the OUR option works for Nigeria, what it costs and where to find it.

The short answer

Barclays lets you choose who pays the charges on an international payment: share them (SHA), pay none (BEN), or pay all of them (OUR). With OUR, Barclays says it asks other banks involved to charge Barclays, and you pay an overseas delivery charge that varies by country and is listed in its A to Z country list. You choose this in Online Banking, Telephone Banking or in branch.

A common complaint from families in Nigeria is that a payment from the UK arrives short. Usually nothing has gone wrong: banks along the way have taken their charges from the amount. Barclays, like several UK banks, gives the sender a way to pay those charges up front. This guide explains the option as Barclays describes it in October 2026.

The three charge options

Barclays optionWhat it means
Share the charges (SHA)You pay only Barclays' international payment fees, if any; the recipient pays other charges.
Pay none of the charges (BEN)Barclays' fees and other banks' charges come out of the amount sent.
Pay all of the charges (OUR)Barclays asks any other banks involved to charge Barclays; you pay an overseas delivery charge.

Barclays says you can pick from these in Online Banking, Telephone Banking or in branch. In the Barclays app, payments to Canada, Switzerland, South Africa and the UAE are always sent as OUR payments. Nigeria is not on that list, so to choose OUR for a Nigerian payment, use Online Banking, Telephone Banking or a branch, and check the options the app offers you at the time.

What OUR costs

Barclays says the overseas delivery charge for OUR payments varies by country and is listed in its A to Z country list. Its main page does not print the figure for Nigeria. Look up Nigeria in that list, or read the charge on the confirmation screen, before you approve.

On top sits the exchange cost if pounds are converted. Barclays says its conversion charge will be no greater than 2.75% for personal and Premier customers, falling for amounts above £25,000, applied to its reference rate, which it sets based on market rates.

When OUR is worth paying

Example only. The figures below are invented to show the decision. Say the OUR delivery charge for Nigeria were £10, and that under SHA £15 had been deducted along the way on a past payment.

SHAOUR
You send£1,000£1,000
Extra you pay up front£0£10 (example)
Deducted in transit£15 (example)Barclays asks banks to charge it instead
Reaches the recipient's bankAbout £985 in valueAbout £1,000 in value

OUR makes most sense when an exact amount must arrive: a school fee invoice, a rent payment, a deposit on land. On a small gift, the delivery charge can be a large share of the amount, and SHA with a little extra added may do as well. Ask your recipient what came off the last payment; their statement often shows it.

Limits of the option

  • It covers the banks in the chain. Barclays describes OUR as asking other banks involved to charge Barclays. A Nigerian bank may still have its own tariff for its customers; ask the recipient's bank.
  • It does not cover the rate. The conversion charge is separate and applies whichever option you choose.
  • Domiciliary accounts. If you send pounds to a pound account in Nigeria, there may be no conversion on the UK side. See sending pounds to a domiciliary account.
  • App and online limits. Barclays says limits apply in the app and Online Banking and that splitting a payment to stay under them may cost more.

How other UK banks offer the same choice

Barclays is not alone in letting the sender cover onward charges. As each bank states it in October 2026:

  • Lloyds sends online and app payments with shared charges only. In branch or by phone it can arrange for the full amount to reach the recipient's bank for its £9.50 fee plus a correspondent bank fee of £20 for the rest of the world.
  • NatWest offers "you pay all fees" for £10, but says it cannot guarantee the recipient will receive the full amount, because intermediary or receiving banks may still take charges.

The wording differs, and so does the promise. Barclays describes asking other banks to charge it; Lloyds talks of the full amount reaching the recipient's bank; NatWest is explicit that it cannot guarantee the outcome. Read the confirmation screen for what your bank commits to on the payment in front of you.

What to check first

  1. Choose the channel that offers OUR for Nigeria: Online Banking, Telephone Banking or branch.
  2. Look up the Nigeria delivery charge in Barclays' A to Z country list.
  3. Have the recipient's name, account number and address, and the bank's SWIFT/BIC.
  4. Compare the rate shown against the mid-market rate at the same moment.

For the wider Barclays process and fees, see Barclays international payments to Nigeria. If a payment arrived short, why the naira amount differs covers the usual causes.

Where Pryme fits

Within a Pryme account, pounds and naira sit side by side, and you convert when you choose. The app shows the rate and the fee before you approve, so the amount that will arrive is known first.

Questions people ask

How do I make sure my family in Nigeria gets the full amount from Barclays?

Choose "Pay all of the charges" (OUR) in Online Banking, Telephone Banking or branch. Barclays asks other banks to charge it, and you pay an overseas delivery charge that varies by country.

How much is the Barclays overseas delivery charge for Nigeria?

Barclays says it varies by country and is listed in its A to Z country list. Check the list or the confirmation screen before approving.

What does SHA mean on a Barclays payment?

Share the charges: you pay Barclays' fees, if any, and the recipient bears other banks' charges.

Does the OUR option change the exchange rate?

No. Barclays' conversion charge, no greater than 2.75% for personal customers, applies separately.
