Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Solar vs PHED grid in Port Harcourt: cost per kWh

A labelled example comparing a reported 5kVA solar system with PHED's Band A to E rates per kWh, and what the sum leaves out.

The short answer

In our labelled example, a solar system reported to cost about ₦3.75 million and supplying 10kWh a day works out at about ₦205 per kWh over five years and about ₦103 over ten years if no parts need replacing. PHED's Band A rate is ₦209.50 per kWh and Bands B to E are ₦39.44 to ₦68.96 (NERC's May 2026 order), so solar competes on price mainly with Band A, and on reliability with every band.

Port Harcourt households weighing solar usually ask two questions: will it pay for itself, and will it keep the lights on? Grid power from Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED) is priced per kWh by band; solar is mostly paid for upfront. To compare them fairly you have to turn the solar price into a cost per kWh. This guide shows the method with a labelled example, so you can repeat it with your own quotes.

Grid side: PHED rates per kWh

NERC's May 2026 Supplementary Order for PHED (ORDER/NERC/2026/048), the latest PHED order we found when checking in October 2026, sets these allowed tariffs for Non-MD customers:

BandMinimum supplyRate per kWh (as at Oct 2026)Cost of 300kWh a month
A20 hrs/day₦209.50₦62,850
B16 hrs/day₦68.96₦20,688
C12 hrs/day₦56.38₦16,914
D8 hrs/day₦39.67₦11,901
E4 hrs/day₦39.44₦11,832

The order says Band A has been frozen at its July 2024 rate and Bands B to E at December 2022 rates, subject to government policy, and it puts PHED's cost-reflective tariff for May 2026 at ₦191.2 per kWh. If subsidy policy changes, grid prices could rise, which would improve the case for solar. See PHED's tariff by band for the latest.

Solar side: a labelled example

Solar prices vary widely by brand, battery chemistry and installer, so treat this as an illustration, not a quote. Legit.ng reported on 22 April 2026 that a buyer paid about ₦3.75 million in total for a 5kVA inverter, a 5kW lithium battery and eight 590-watt panels (4.72kW of panels). We use that total and the following assumptions, all labelled:

System cost (reported)
₦3,750,000, all-in, paid upfront.
Energy used from it (assumption)
10kWh a day, or 300kWh a 30-day month. Ask your installer for an output estimate for your roof and season.
Running costs (assumption)
Nil, to keep the sum simple. In practice, budget for cleaning, servicing and eventual battery or inverter replacement.

The arithmetic

  • Five years: 10kWh × 365 days × 5 = 18,250kWh. ₦3,750,000 ÷ 18,250 = about ₦205.48 per kWh.
  • Ten years: 36,500kWh. ₦3,750,000 ÷ 36,500 = about ₦102.74 per kWh, but only if nothing needs replacing in that time, which is optimistic for batteries and inverters.
  • Simple payback against Band A: ₦3,750,000 ÷ ₦62,850 a month = about 59.7 months, close to five years.

How the result moves with usage

The cost per kWh falls as you use more of what the system produces. Holding the same ₦3,750,000 and a five-year view:

Energy used a day (example)kWh over 5 yearsSolar cost per kWh
6kWh10,950about ₦342.47
8kWh14,600about ₦256.85
10kWh18,250about ₦205.48
12kWh21,900about ₦171.23

A household that installs a large system but uses little of it pays more per kWh than Band A. Sizing the system to real consumption matters more than the brand.

What the per-kWh sum leaves out

  • Reliability. Band A guarantees a minimum of 20 hours a day; Band E only 4. Solar with a battery covers the gaps, which a per-kWh comparison does not capture.
  • Cost of money. ₦3.75 million paid today could otherwise earn a return or clear a debt. Spreading the cost over time also has a price.
  • Generator spend. Many homes on lower bands run a generator for the missing hours. If solar replaces fuel, the saving can be larger than the grid comparison suggests; see generator vs solar vs grid.
  • Wasted output. If panels produce more than you use and the battery is full, the extra is lost, which raises your real cost per kWh.

Weather matters too. Output falls on heavily overcast days, which are common in the rainy season, so a system sized only on sunny-day output can leave you short. Ask the installer how the battery is expected to cope over several dull days in a row.

Who it tends to suit

On these numbers, a Band A household using around 300kWh a month is the clearest case: the five-year solar cost per kWh is close to the Band A rate, and the battery adds backup. A Band B to E household pays far less per grid kWh, so solar rarely beats the grid on price alone; the case rests on replacing generator fuel and covering long outages. Get at least two written quotes that state panel wattage, battery capacity in kWh, inverter size and warranty terms, and redo the arithmetic with your own figures. For a fuller breakdown of system sizes, read what a 3kVA solar and inverter system costs.

Where Pryme fits

If you are saving towards a system, a Fixed or Flexible Box keeps the fund apart from daily spending, and you can keep paying PHED in the meantime through electricity bills in the app.

Questions people ask

Is solar cheaper than PHED in Port Harcourt?

It depends on your band. In our example, solar works out at about ₦205 per kWh over five years, close to Band A's ₦209.50; Bands B to E cost ₦39.44 to ₦68.96 per kWh, so solar rarely wins on price alone for those bands.

How much is a 5kVA solar system in Nigeria?

Legit.ng reported one buyer paying about ₦3.75 million in April 2026 for a 5kVA inverter, 5kW lithium battery and eight 590W panels. Prices vary; get written quotes.

How long does solar take to pay back in Port Harcourt?

In our labelled example, against a Band A bill of ₦62,850 for 300kWh a month, payback is about 59.7 months, before replacement and financing costs.

Should I go solar if I am on Band D or E?

On price per grid kWh alone, usually not. The case rests on how much generator fuel solar replaces and how many outage hours it covers.
