Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Bills

PHED tariff today: Band A to E per kWh

PHED's allowed price per kWh for every band, as set in NERC's latest order we found, plus where to check the figure before you buy a token.

The short answer

As at October 2026, the latest NERC order we found for PHED (the May 2026 Supplementary Order) sets Band A at ₦209.50 per kWh and non-MD homes in Bands B to E at ₦68.96, ₦56.38, ₦39.67 and ₦39.44 per kWh. Bands are set by your feeder's supply hours, not by your meter. Check NERC's orders page for a newer order before relying on these figures.

If you buy prepaid tokens from Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED), the price of each unit (one kilowatt-hour, or kWh) depends on the service band of the feeder that supplies your street. The price is not set by PHED alone: the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) publishes a supplementary tariff order for each distribution company, usually every month. This page explains the figures in the most recent PHED order we could find when we checked in October 2026, and how to confirm today's figure yourself.

PHED allowed tariffs per kWh, as at October 2026

NERC's May 2026 Supplementary Order to the Multi-Year Tariff Order 2024 for PHED (ORDER/NERC/2026/048) lists the allowed tariffs payable from July 2024 to May 2026 for the four states PHED serves. The figures below are per kWh, as printed in Table 3 of that order.

Band (minimum supply)Non-MD (most homes and small shops)MD1 (LV maximum demand)MD2 (11/33kV maximum demand)
Band A (20 hrs/day)₦209.50₦209.50₦209.50
Band B (16 hrs/day)₦68.96₦67.18₦67.12
Band C (12 hrs/day)₦56.38₦54.64₦54.64
Band D (8 hrs/day)₦39.67₦55.43₦55.43
Band E (4 hrs/day)₦39.44₦55.43₦55.43
Lifeline (R1, up to 50kWh a month)₦4.00

Most households and small shops on a single-phase or three-phase connection are Non-MD. MD1 and MD2 are maximum-demand customers, usually larger businesses on dedicated low-voltage or 11/33kV supply. The minimum hours come from Appendix 1 of the same order.

A note for Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom customers

The May 2026 order describes Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers as states "yet to be transitioned", for which NERC still sets PHED's end-user tariffs. Separately, NERC announced in August 2025 the transfer of regulatory oversight in Bayelsa to the Bayelsa State Electricity Regulatory Agency (BYERA), with transfers to be completed by 20 February 2026, and a similar transfer in Akwa Ibom to its state commission was reported in August 2026. If you live in either state, check whether a state regulator now publishes your tariff; our guide to AKSERC, BYERA and PHED explains the handover. Rivers State customers remain covered by the NERC table above as at the May 2026 order.

Why Bands B to E have not moved since 2022

Paragraph 18 of the order says the allowed tariffs for Band A and for Bands B to E in PHED's area "shall remain frozen at the rates payable since July 2024 and December 2022, respectively, subject to further policy direction by the Government". That is why the Band A figure has stayed at ₦209.50 since July 2024 and the lower-band figures have not changed since December 2022, even though the order recalculates PHED's costs every month.

The same order puts PHED's cost-reflective tariff for May 2026 at ₦191.2 per kWh against an average allowed tariff of ₦123.8 per kWh, and states a monthly tariff shortfall (subsidy) of about ₦9,873 million. In plain terms, most PHED customers pay less than the regulator's estimate of the full cost of supply, and the Federal Government covers the gap. If that policy changes, tariffs for some bands could change with it.

How your band is decided

Your band follows your feeder's average hours of supply, not your meter or your neighbourhood's reputation. Under the order, PHED must publish daily on its website a rolling 7-day average of daily supply hours on each Band A feeder, and a Band A feeder that misses its committed service level for seven consecutive days is downgraded to the band its supply actually earned. PHED's home page links to these records under "Daily Band A Availability Records".

  • Check the band printed on your vend receipt or shown when you enter your meter number on a payment screen.
  • Compare it with the feeder records PHED publishes.
  • If you are billed as Band A but supply is far below 20 hours, read how downgrades and compensation work.

Where to check the live figure

  1. NERC's website, under orders: look for the most recent "Supplementary Order to the Multi-Year Tariff Order 2024 for Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc" and open the allowed tariffs table.
  2. PHED's website and social channels, where PHED announces tariff changes.
  3. Your token receipt, which shows how much energy your payment bought; dividing the amount by the units gives you the effective price you paid.

To turn a band rate into units for a given amount, see how many units ₦5,000 buys on PHED. For the wider picture of the national banding system, read NERC electricity bands A to E explained.

Where Pryme fits

If you pay PHED from a Pryme account, electricity bills in the app let you check the meter details before paying, and a Flexible Box can hold a monthly power budget separately from spending money.

Questions people ask

What is PHED Band A tariff now?

The latest PHED order we found when checking in October 2026, NERC's May 2026 Supplementary Order, lists Band A at ₦209.50 per kWh for all Band A classes. Check NERC's orders page for a newer order.

How much is Band B per kWh in Port Harcourt?

₦68.96 per kWh for Non-MD customers, ₦67.18 for MD1 and ₦67.12 for MD2, according to the May 2026 order. The order says Bands B to E have been frozen at December 2022 rates subject to government policy.

Does PHED charge the same in Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Cross River?

The May 2026 order sets one table of allowed tariffs for the four states it lists under PHED: Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers.

How do I know my PHED band?

Your vend receipt or the payment screen usually shows the band. PHED is required to publish daily Band A feeder supply records on its website.
