Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

PHED token rejected: causes and fixes

Why a PHED prepaid meter refuses a token, from a wrong meter number to a missed TID rollover, and the order of steps to fix it.

The short answer

A PHED meter usually rejects a token because it was typed wrongly, generated for another meter number, loaded out of order, already used, or because the meter never received its TID rollover key change token, which PHED says meters needed by November 2024 to keep vending. Re-check the 20 digits and meter number, load tokens in purchase order, then generate the TID token on tid.phed.com.ng and contact PHED with your transaction reference if it still fails.

A rejected token is frustrating because the money has already left your account. The good news is that most rejections have a cause you can identify from the receipt and the meter display. Work through the causes below in order, from the quickest to check to the ones that need PHED.

1. The token was typed wrongly

A prepaid token is a 20-digit number. One wrong or missing digit makes it invalid. Clear the keypad and enter it again slowly, in groups of four, checking against the receipt or SMS. If your meter has a separate customer interface unit (the keypad inside the house), make sure it is paired with and close enough to the meter.

2. The token was bought for a different meter

Each token is encrypted for one meter number. If the person who bought it entered a neighbour's meter number or a mistyped one, your meter will refuse it. Compare the meter number on the receipt with the number printed on your meter. If they differ, the token belongs to that other meter; contact PHED and the vendor with the receipt.

3. Tokens loaded out of order

PHED's TID page says recharge tokens should be loaded in the order of purchase: if you bought more than one, load the first, then the second, and so on. A later token can be rejected while an earlier one has not been loaded. Find the oldest unused receipt and start there.

4. The meter missed its TID rollover

PHED says NERC directed it to migrate prepayment meters using a "TID rollover key change token", to be completed on or before November 2024, and that meters not migrated by then will not be able to vend. If your meter has been idle, was newly moved into, or keeps rejecting fresh tokens, this is a likely cause.

  1. Go to PHED's TID page (tid.phed.com.ng) and enter your meter number.
  2. The page generates the TID token for your meter.
  3. Load the key change token(s) on the meter exactly as given, then load your recharge token.

For more detail, see our guide to the PHED key change token (KCT).

5. The token is already used, or never arrived

A token can be accepted only once. If someone else in the house loaded it, the meter will reject it the second time. If you paid but never received a token, PHED Pay's FAQ says tokens are generated after successful payment and that you should contact support with your transaction reference if you have not received one within 5 minutes. PHED Pay also has a "Retrieve Token" option for payments made there.

6. Meter fault or error code

If the display shows an error code rather than "reject" or "invalid", note it down. Codes differ by meter make; our guide to PHED meter error codes explains the common ones. A meter that is blank, beeping continuously or showing a tamper message needs PHED, not another token.

How to avoid a rejected token next time

  • Save your meter number in your banking app or as a contact, so you are not typing it from memory at a POS stand.
  • When someone buys a token for you, send them a photo of the meter number rather than reading it out.
  • Load each token as soon as it arrives and keep the receipt until the balance on the meter has gone up.
  • If you buy several tokens at once, number the receipts so they are loaded in purchase order, as PHED advises.
  • After moving into a new flat, buy a small amount first (PHED Pay accepts from ₦100) to confirm the meter accepts tokens before a large vend.

If you have just moved in and the meter rejects everything, the previous occupant's account may have been left in a state that needs PHED's attention, or the meter may never have been migrated. Ask the landlord for the last receipt the meter accepted; it helps PHED trace the problem.

Steps if nothing works

Have ready
Meter number, the 20-digit token, receipt or transaction reference, date and amount, and a photo of the meter display.
Contact PHED
Its website lists 0700 2255 7433, 09087838800, 09087838801 and info@phed.com.ng; its FAQ also lists customer care on 084-303450, 084-303451 and 084-303452, 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Contact the vendor
If the payment went through a bank or app, open a complaint there too with the same reference.

If a token was paid for but not delivered, keep the debit alert and the vendor's reference until PHED or the vendor resolves it. For general fixes that apply to every DisCo, read electricity token not loading: causes and fixes, and for full contact routes see PHED customer care: phone, WhatsApp and email.

Where Pryme fits

When you pay electricity from the Pryme app, the receipt stays in your history, and you can generate a verifiable receipt with VerifyDoc.ai to share with PHED or a landlord if a token is disputed.

Questions people ask

Why is my PHED meter rejecting token?

The most common causes are a typing error, a token generated for a different meter number, tokens loaded out of order, a token already used, or a meter that missed PHED's TID rollover.

How do I get TID token for PHED meter?

Enter your meter number on PHED's TID page at tid.phed.com.ng; it generates the TID rollover token for that meter.

I paid for PHED token but did not receive it, what do I do?

PHED Pay says to contact support with your transaction reference if a token has not arrived within 5 minutes. It also offers a Retrieve Token option.

What is PHED customer care number?

PHED's website lists 0700 2255 7433, 09087838800 and 09087838801, and email info@phed.com.ng.
