Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to check units left on a PHED prepaid meter

How to see your remaining units on a PHED prepaid meter, why the keys differ by brand, and how to work out how long your units will last.

The short answer

Most PHED prepaid meters show the remaining units (kWh) on the display by default, or after you press a balance or information key on the keypad. The exact key differs by manufacturer, and PHED's approved MAP vendors include ARMESE, HOLLEY, KIGG, WELLSUN and MOJEC, so check your meter's brand and its manual or helpline for the code. Units are energy, not naira, so divide by your daily use to see how long they will last.

Why there is no single key sequence

Every prepaid meter on PHED's network follows the same token standard, but the keypad and screen are designed by the manufacturer. On some meters the remaining units scroll on the screen all the time. On others you press a key, often marked with a symbol or a short number code, to bring up the balance. Split meters, with an outdoor measuring unit and an indoor keypad, show everything on the keypad.

We could not find a PHED page listing balance codes for each brand, and codes we have seen quoted online vary even for the same make. We have not printed them here so you do not try the wrong sequence. Instead:

  1. Find the brand name on the meter casing or keypad.
  2. Look in the user manual that came with the meter, or the leaflet left by the installer.
  3. If you have neither, call the helpline printed on the meter or ask PHED customer care with your meter number and brand.
  4. Write the balance key on a sticker inside the meter box once you know it.

Reading the display correctly

Remaining units / credit
Energy left, in kWh. This is the number you want.
Cumulative or total
All energy used since the meter was installed. Not your balance.
Last token
The units added by the most recent token. Useful when checking a purchase.
Instantaneous power
How much power you are drawing right now, in kW or W. Useful for spotting a heavy appliance.
Meter number
The number you buy tokens for. See finding your PHED meter number.

If the screen shows a word or code instead of a number, see PHED meter error codes.

How long will my units last?

Units are energy, not money. How long they last depends on what you run, not on what you paid. The simple method is to take two readings 24 hours apart.

Worked example

Example figures only. At 8pm on Monday the meter shows 64.0 units. At 8pm on Tuesday it shows 55.5. Daily use is 64.0 - 55.5 = 8.5 kWh. The remaining 55.5 units will last about 55.5 / 8.5 = 6.5 days at that rate. If a heat wave pushes air-conditioner use up to 12 kWh a day, they would last about 55.5 / 12 = 4.6 days.

Daily use (kWh)Days 55.5 units last
69.3
8.56.5
124.6
153.7

To turn units into naira, multiply by the tariff on your vending receipt. Because tariffs differ by band and change over time, use your own receipt rather than a published figure; see PHED tariffs by band and how many units N5,000 buys.

Check after every token

The balance screen is most useful straight after you load a token. Read the balance before entering the token, enter it, then read the balance again. The difference should match the units printed on the receipt. If it does not, check the "last token" reading, which shows what the meter actually credited.

  • If fewer units were added than the receipt shows, keep the receipt and photograph both readings, then contact the vending channel and PHED.
  • If no units were added and the meter showed an error, see PHED token rejected: fixes.
  • If the receipt itself shows fewer units than you expected for the money, the difference may be VAT, a debt deduction or a different band; the receipt breaks this down.

Low-credit warnings

Many meters beep or show a low-credit message when units fall below a set level. The level is set in the meter and differs by model. Treat the first warning as your reminder to buy, not as a sign that supply will cut immediately; how long you have left depends on your daily use, worked out below. If your meter never warns you, set your own reminder based on the daily figure you measure.

Units running down too fast?

  • Check instantaneous power with everything switched off. If the meter still shows a load, something is drawing power, or another flat may be wired to your meter.
  • Switch appliances on one at a time and watch the power figure to find the heaviest users.
  • Compare the "last token" units with the receipt to confirm the full purchase was added.
  • If the meter seems to count when nothing is on, report it to PHED and ask for a meter test.

Where Pryme fits

Once you know your daily use, the Personal Assistant in the Pryme app can remind you to top up before the units run out, and prepare the token purchase for you to approve.

Questions people ask

How do I check units remaining on my PHED meter?

Look at the display or press the balance key for your meter brand. The manual or the helpline on the meter gives the exact key.

What is the code to check balance on prepaid meter?

It depends on the manufacturer. Check the brand on your meter and its manual rather than a code from social media.

Why is my meter showing a big number that is not my balance?

It may be the cumulative total used since installation. Look for the remaining units or credit reading.

How many days will 50 units last?

Divide by your daily use. At 8 kWh a day, 50 units last about 6 days; measure your own use over 24 hours.
