Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Paying a sibling's NYSC or job search costs from the US

A budget for supporting a younger sibling through NYSC and the job hunt from the US: camp, relocation, rent, transport, and when support should taper.

The short answer

Support a sibling through NYSC and the job hunt with a written monthly budget, a fixed payment date and an agreed end point, and pay big items such as rent directly to the landlord. The federal allowance paid to corps members is set by government and has changed over time, so check the current figure with your sibling's NYSC state secretariat rather than relying on old reports. Plan the support to taper once a job starts.

What the year really costs

The National Youth Service Corps year is often the first time a graduate lives away from home on their own money, and the months after it, looking for work, can be harder still. Many older siblings in the US end up funding both stages. Doing it well means knowing the cost lines, agreeing a budget, and being clear about how long support lasts.

NYSC: the main cost lines

  • Before camp: transport to the orientation camp in the posting state, items on the camp kit list, a little cash for the camp market.
  • Relocation: moving to the place of primary assignment, and a deposit and first rent if lodging is not provided.
  • Monthly living: rent, food, transport to the place of assignment, data and phone, and toiletries.
  • Gaps: the first allowance and any state or employer stipend may take time to arrive; budget for the first month or two in full.
  • Extras: community development projects, clearance trips, and travel home at least once.

The federal allowance and any employer or state top-up reduce what you need to send. The federal allowance amount is set by government and has been raised before; the NYSC home page we checked in October 2026 does not state it, so ask your sibling to confirm the current figure with the state secretariat.

The job hunt: the main cost lines

  • Transport to interviews and assessment centres, sometimes in another city.
  • Data, a working laptop or phone, and printing.
  • Professional exams or short courses that employers ask for.
  • Clothes for interviews.
  • Rent and food if your sibling is not living with parents.

One small cost worth knowing: employers check NYSC certificates. NYSC's price list (updated August 2024) charges private organisations ₦20,000 to verify a certificate, and the same amount to replace a lost Certificate of National Service. Tell your sibling to keep the original certificate safe and scan it.

Setting a budget together

Ask your sibling to write the monthly budget, line by line, and go through it together. A budget they wrote is easier for them to keep. Then agree what you will cover and what they will cover from the allowance or other income.

Worked example (illustrative figures)

LineDuring NYSC (monthly)Job hunt (monthly)
Rent (paid to landlord)₦60,000₦60,000
Food₦70,000₦70,000
Transport₦30,000₦45,000
Data and phone₦15,000₦20,000
Other₦15,000₦15,000
Total need₦190,000₦210,000
Less allowance and stipends (example)₦90,000₦0
You send₦100,000₦210,000

These are example figures only. Check the arithmetic each time costs change: in this example, six months of job-hunt support would be ₦1,260,000.

Paying from the US

  1. Pay on a fixed date. The same day each month, so your sibling can plan and you are not responding to messages one at a time.
  2. Pay rent to the landlord directly, against a written tenancy or receipt.
  3. Pay large one-off costs to the provider: a course fee to the training body, a laptop to the shop.
  4. Keep a simple record of what you sent and for what, especially if siblings share the cost.

Your US provider must show you the fee, exchange rate and amount received before you pay (CFPB). Paying from a bank account or card avoids the 1% US remittance transfer tax, which since January 2026 applies to transfers funded with cash, a money order or a cashier's check.

If several siblings contribute

When two or three of you abroad share the cost, decide who sends what. One clean approach is for one sibling to pay rent and another the monthly living amount, so each payment has one owner. Another is a single monthly sum split in fixed shares and sent by one person. Either way, put the arrangement in the family group in writing, and tell your younger sibling who to ask for what. It stops them having to make the same request to several people, and stops the support quietly doubling when two of you respond to the same message.

When support should taper

Agree the end point at the start: for example, full support for six months after NYSC, half for three months after a job starts, then nothing except emergencies. Write it in a message so nobody remembers it differently. It protects your own finances and avoids the slow drift into open-ended support that many diaspora families describe. If the job hunt runs long, review the budget together rather than quietly continuing.

What to check first

  • Has your sibling written a monthly budget you have both seen?
  • Do you know the current allowance and any stipend at the place of assignment?
  • Is rent being paid directly, with a receipt?
  • Is there an agreed end date or taper?

Where Pryme fits

With a Pryme account you can send the monthly amount on the same date and convert with Swap when you choose; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. The Personal Assistant can prepare the monthly transfer and remind you, and nothing moves until you approve. See also paying a sibling's university fees and saying no to extra money requests.

Questions people ask

How much does NYSC cost a family?

It depends on the posting, rent and whether lodging is provided. List camp, relocation, rent, food, transport and data costs, then subtract the allowance and any stipend.

How much is the NYSC allowance now?

The federal allowance is set by government and has changed before. The NYSC home page does not state it, so confirm the current amount with the NYSC state secretariat.

How much does NYSC certificate verification cost?

NYSC's price list (August 2024) charges private organisations ₦20,000 to verify a certificate and ₦20,000 to replace a lost Certificate of National Service.

How long should I support my sibling after NYSC?

Agree it at the start, such as six months of full support during the job hunt and a taper once work begins, and review it together if needed.
