Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Paying a Nigerian supplier from abroad: checks first

Before the first transfer to a Nigerian supplier: identity, the CAC record, an account name that matches, and payments staged against proof of goods.

The short answer

Before paying a Nigerian supplier from abroad, confirm who you are dealing with, check the company on the free CAC public search, make sure the bank account is in the same name as the registered business, and stage payments against evidence: a deposit, then the balance on inspection or shipping documents. Treat any late change of bank details as suspect until confirmed by phone on a number you already had.

Most losses on cross-border supplier payments are not sophisticated. A fake company, a real company with a fraudster's account number, or a genuine supplier who takes a full advance and then goes quiet. Each has a simple check that costs little compared with the order.

1. Confirm who you are dealing with

  • Get the full registered name, RC or BN number, registered address and the names of the people you speak to.
  • Speak to them on video, and if possible arrange for someone you trust to visit the premises or warehouse.
  • Ask for references from other buyers abroad and contact them independently.
  • Be cautious of suppliers found only through social media who will not give a registration number. A vendor that refuses to share its RC number is a red flag (Legit.ng guide to CAC verification, September 2026).

2. Check the CAC record

The Corporate Affairs Commission's public search at search.cac.gov.ng is free and needs no account, according to Legit.ng's September 2026 guide. You can search by name or by RC/BN number; the result shows the business name, number, registration type, status and registration date. 'Inactive' usually means annual returns have not been filed; 'struck off' means the company is not in good standing. The full process is in checking a supplier on the CAC register.

A clean CAC record proves the company exists. It does not prove that the person messaging you works for it, so the next check matters as much.

3. Match the bank account to the business

Ask for the account details on company letterhead and compare the account name with the CAC name. A registered limited company should be paid into an account in its own name. Requests to pay a director's personal account, a 'sister company' or an agent are the most common warning sign; see supplier wants payment to a personal account. Before sending a large sum, send a small test amount and have the supplier confirm the exact amount received.

Which account, and which currency

Naira is the legal tender for transactions within Nigeria under the CBN's 2026 foreign exchange manual (TheCable, June 2026). When you are importing goods from Nigeria, the supplier is exporting, and export proceeds belong in the exporter's export domiciliary account, to be repatriated within the set period (Mondaq, June 2026). A supplier who asks an overseas buyer for naira into a personal account for export goods is stepping outside that framework; see which account the money must go to.

4. Stage the payments

Example only, for a first order worth $10,000:

StagePayAgainst
Order confirmed$3,000 (30%)Signed proforma invoice and agreed specification
Goods ready$4,000 (40%)Photos or video, and an inspection report
Shipped$3,000 (30%)Bill of lading or air waybill, and export documents
Total$10,000

Larger orders may justify a letter of credit or a third-party inspection; see pre-shipment inspection.

5. Lock down bank detail changes

Invoice fraud usually arrives as an email from what looks like the supplier, saying the bank account has changed. Agree at the start that bank details never change by email alone; any change is confirmed by a call to a number you already have. See bank details changed by email.

Know the export paperwork the supplier needs

A genuine exporter can tell you which Nigerian documents your goods need, and when. For food and plant products, the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service's export guidelines (June 2019) say a phytosanitary or sanitary certificate must be obtained from NAQS after inspection and before shipment, matching the conditions in the destination country's import permit; altered or forged certificates are invalid and the goods can be rejected. See NAQS phytosanitary certificates. A supplier who is vague about this, or offers to 'sort out' certificates for a fee without inspection, is a risk to your shipment as well as your money.

Exporters also complete export proceeds documentation with their bank; the Nigeria library explains Form NXP. If something goes wrong after you have paid, see options in a dispute.

6. Keep the paper trail

  • Proforma and final invoices showing the supplier's name, address and, where registered, Tax ID.
  • Your payment confirmations and the supplier's receipts.
  • Inspection reports, photos and shipping documents.
  • Messages agreeing price, quantity and quality, saved outside the chat app.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account can be opened from any country, holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local details for each, and pays suppliers by Send or bulk payouts. Its Compliance agent prepares supplier checks for a person to approve (Compliance agent), and every payment can carry a verifiable receipt, so 'we didn't receive it' disputes have an answer.

Questions people ask

How do I know a Nigerian supplier is real?

Check the RC or BN number on the free CAC public search, confirm the name and status, speak to the people involved on video, and take references from other buyers.

Should I pay a Nigerian supplier in full upfront?

For a first order, staging is safer: a deposit on order, a further payment when goods are inspected, and the balance against shipping documents.

The supplier wants payment into a personal account. Is that normal?

It is a common warning sign. A registered company should be paid into an account in its own name.

Can I pay a Nigerian exporter in naira?

Export proceeds are expected to go into the exporter's export domiciliary account under the CBN's rules. Ask for the export account details in the company's name.
