Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Checking a Nigerian supplier on the CAC register

The CAC public search is free and shows a company's name, RC number, type, status and registration date. How to run it and read the result from abroad.

The short answer

Go to the Corporate Affairs Commission's public search (search.cac.gov.ng), which is free and needs no account, and search by the supplier's exact registered name or its RC or BN number. The result shows the name, number, registration type, status and registration date. 'Active' is what you want; 'inactive' usually means annual returns are unfiled, and 'struck off' means the company is not in good standing.

Nigerian suppliers often trade under a brand that differs from their registered name, and some are not registered at all. A CAC search takes minutes and is the first check any buyer abroad should run before paying.

What CAC registers

Registrations carry either an RC number (registered companies) or a BN number (registered business names), and the search result states the registration type. Note which one your supplier is. A business name is a registered trading name rather than a company, so ask who owns it and, for a large contract, ask a lawyer how that affects who you can hold to the agreement. A limited company should be paid into an account in the company's own name.

  1. Go to search.cac.gov.ng directly; do not use a link sent by the supplier.
  2. Search by RC or BN number exactly as printed, for example RC0000011 (Legit.ng's example). This is the most precise method.
  3. Or search by the full name exactly as on the invoice; similar names may appear, so check the full registered name.
  4. Open the result and compare the name, number, type, status and registration date with the documents you were given.

CAC's company portal (icrp.cac.gov.ng) also has a public search, which port operator APM Terminals pointed customers to in July 2026 for checking company details.

Reading the result

  • Active: registered and up to date with filings.
  • Inactive: usually annual returns not filed. Ask why; it is common among small firms but suggests weak administration.
  • Struck off: not in good standing. Do not contract until it is resolved.
  • No result: newly registered businesses can take a few days to appear (Legit.ng). Otherwise, the business may not be registered, or the name or number is wrong.

A name mismatch can be a data entry error at registration; Legit.ng suggests contacting CAC to correct it. From the buyer's side, a mismatch is a reason to pause until explained.

Going deeper

Certified true copies and status reports

For a large contract, ask for a certified true copy (CTC) of the certificate and key filings, which the CAC certifies as an official replica accepted for court and international transactions (Legit.ng). CAC's older procedures note listed requests for CTCs and status reports by email with a fee receipt; the portal may now handle these, so check the current route on the CAC site.

Who controls the company

Under the Persons with Significant Control Regulations 2022, anyone holding 5% or more of shares or voting rights, or with significant influence or control, must be disclosed to the CAC (PwC Nigeria summary). Ask the supplier who its significant controllers are and whether the filing is current; see PSC disclosure rules.

A worked check

Example only. A London grocer is offered palm oil by a brand we will call 'X Foods', which sends a certificate showing an RC number. The grocer:

  1. Searches the RC number on search.cac.gov.ng and finds 'X Agro Nigeria Limited', status active, registered eight years ago.
  2. Notices the trading name differs from the registered name and asks the supplier to explain. The supplier says the brand is a trading name of the registered company and puts that in writing on letterhead.
  3. Asks for the bank details and sees the account name is 'X Agro Nig Ltd': consistent with the CAC record.
  4. Asks for the company's Tax ID. Port operator APM Terminals told customers in July 2026 that the National Tax ID generated on the NRS Rev360 platform is becoming the main taxpayer identifier, replacing the TIN.
  5. Proceeds with a small first order, paid in stages.

Had the search returned 'struck off', or the account been in an individual's name, the grocer would have stopped at step 1 or 3.

Practical tips from abroad

  • Save a screenshot or PDF of the search result with the date; it becomes part of your due diligence file.
  • Compare the registered address with the address on invoices and shipping documents.
  • If you use a Nigerian lawyer or agent for a deeper search, pay them directly, not through the supplier.

What a CAC search cannot tell you

  • Whether the person you are talking to works for the company.
  • Whether the bank account you have been given belongs to it.
  • Whether it can deliver the quantity or quality you need.
  • Whether it is solvent or in disputes.

Those need the other checks in paying a Nigerian supplier: checks first. The Nigeria library's guide to verifying a Nigerian company covers the same ground for local buyers.

Warnings

  • Use only official CAC channels; Legit.ng warns against third-party 'CAC agents' not listed on CAC's official contacts.
  • A printed certificate can be forged; the online record is what counts.
  • Re-check before each large order; status can change.

Where Pryme fits

Once a supplier checks out, a Pryme Business Account can pay it in naira from abroad by Send, and the Compliance agent can keep a record of the checks you ran for a person to review (Compliance agent).

Questions people ask

How can I check if a Nigerian company is registered?

Use the free CAC public search at search.cac.gov.ng and search by the RC or BN number or the exact registered name.

What does 'inactive' mean on a CAC search?

Usually that annual returns have not been filed. The company exists but is behind on filings.

Is the CAC search free?

Yes, according to Legit.ng's September 2026 guide, the public search is free and needs no account.

Does a CAC search show the company's directors?

The public result shows name, number, type, status and registration date. For more, ask for certified true copies of filings or check the PSC disclosures.
