Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

OPay POS machine: price, requirements and how to get one

What OPay publishes about getting a POS terminal, the documents its merchant FAQ lists, why prices quoted online vary, and how to apply safely.

The short answer

OPay does not publish a POS terminal price or caution fee on its public website, so confirm the current figure with OPay's POS business line (0700 8888 329 or 020 18888 329) or an OPay office before paying anyone. OPay's merchant FAQ lists a BVN, a utility bill no older than three months, a national ID card, driver's licence or international passport, and one passport photo, and says a CAC registration is not required to register as a merchant.

What OPay publishes, and what it does not

OPay runs a separate line for POS business queries, listed on its website (checked October 2026) as 0700 8888 329 or 020 18888 329. Its public pages do not state:

  • the price of a terminal, or whether it is sold outright, leased or issued against a caution deposit;
  • any monthly target, activation fee or retrieval terms;
  • the processing charge per transaction (see OPay POS charges).

Prices quoted on blogs and in groups vary because terminal models, promotions and regional offers change. A figure is only reliable if it comes from OPay directly and is written on an invoice or in the app.

Documents OPay's FAQ lists

OPay's merchant FAQ page (undated, and it may describe an older process) lists what it asks for:

RequirementDetail as listed
Bank Verification Number (BVN)Required
Proof of addressUtility or other bill dated no more than three months before registration
IdentityNational ID card, driver's licence or international passport
PhotoOne passport photograph
CAC registrationNot required to register as a merchant

The same FAQ says a registered merchant can receive and send up to ₦5 million daily. Treat that as the figure on that page, not necessarily today's limit; ask OPay to confirm it for your account. Note that a NIN is now required alongside a BVN for accounts under CBN rules, so have it ready too; see opening an OPay account with BVN and NIN.

How to apply

  1. Open and verify an OPay account in your own name, with BVN and NIN.
  2. Contact OPay through the POS business line or an OPay office. OPay's FAQ describes registering in the app and then requesting the merchant registration form from support by email; the current route may differ, so ask which applies.
  3. Submit the documents above and confirm in writing the terminal cost, any caution deposit and whether it is refundable.
  4. Pay only through the channel OPay names, and keep the receipt.
  5. When the terminal arrives, confirm it is linked to your own account by running a small test transaction and checking it in your app.
  6. Learn the basic fixes. OPay's FAQ says that for 'communication error', 'SSL connection failure' or 'Wave lost' messages you should switch the terminal off for about a minute, switch it on and retry, and report persistent errors with a screenshot.

Our guides how to get an OPay POS as an agent and becoming an OPay agent cover the agent side.

Before you commit: questions to ask

  • Is the terminal bought, leased or held against a caution deposit? If a deposit, under what conditions is it returned?
  • Is there a minimum monthly transaction volume, and what happens if you miss it?
  • Who repairs or replaces a faulty terminal, and at whose cost?
  • How and when are funds settled to your wallet, and what is the charge per transaction?
  • What happens to the terminal if you stop being an agent?

Worked example

Example, with illustrative numbers: if a terminal cost ₦30,000 and your margin after OPay's charges averaged ₦80 per withdrawal, you would need 375 withdrawals to recover the cost (₦30,000 ÷ ₦80 = 375). At 25 withdrawals a day that is 15 trading days. Run your own figures with the price and charges OPay gives you.

Signs an offer is not from OPay

Payment into a personal account
A real order is paid through OPay's own channels, not to an individual's account named after a 'POS officer'.
Pressure to pay today
'Only three machines left' or 'price goes up tomorrow' is a sales tactic, not OPay policy.
No documents asked for
OPay's own FAQ asks for BVN, ID, a recent bill and a photo. An offer that skips verification is not linked to your account.
Terminal already set up
A device logged into someone else's account means their wallet receives your customers' money.
Contact only on WhatsApp
Confirm any offer by calling 0700 8888 329 or 020 18888 329 yourself, using the number on OPay's website.

If you have already paid someone who now cannot be reached, keep the transfer receipt and chat history and report it to your bank and the police. Our guide fake customer care explains how impostors work.

Is a POS the right tool?

A terminal makes sense if customers need cash or pay by card. If your customers mostly pay by transfer, a transfer-based checkout may be cheaper to run; see POS terminal vs bank transfer.

Where Pryme fits

A business with a Pryme Business Account can take payment through bank-transfer checkout, free of charge, without a terminal. See Pryme checkout.

Questions people ask

How much is OPay POS machine?

OPay does not publish the price on its public website. Call the POS business line on 0700 8888 329 or 020 18888 329, or visit an OPay office, and get the figure in writing before paying.

What are the requirements for OPay POS?

OPay's merchant FAQ lists BVN, a utility bill no older than three months, a national ID, driver's licence or passport, and a passport photo. Have your NIN ready as well.

Do I need CAC to get OPay POS?

OPay's merchant FAQ says CAC registration is not required to register as a merchant.

Is the OPay POS caution fee refundable?

OPay's public pages do not state terms for a caution fee. Ask OPay directly and get the refund conditions in writing.
