Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

OPay security settings to turn on: PIN, biometrics, device lock

The OPay security settings worth turning on, where to find each in the app, what each protects against, and the lock codes to save before you need them.

The short answer

Turn on a strong app login and a separate transaction PIN, enable fingerprint or face login on a phone that has its own screen lock, keep alerts on, and save OPay's account lock codes, *955*131# and *955*132#, which OPay lists for a lost or stolen phone. Most settings are in the app's profile or security area. None of them helps if you share a PIN or one-time code, which no genuine OPay staff will ask for.

What each setting protects against

SettingWhere to lookProtects against
Phone screen lock (PIN or biometrics)Your phone's own settingsSomeone picking up an unlocked phone
App login passwordOPay profile or security settingsSomeone opening OPay on your phone
Transaction PINOPay security settingsMoney moving even if the app is open
Fingerprint or face loginOPay security settingsShoulder-surfing of your password in public
Transaction alertsOPay notification settingsFraud going unnoticed for days
Account and card lock codesDial *955*131# or *955*132#Losses after a phone is lost or stolen

OPay's website (checked October 2026) names the lock codes and says OPay is PCI DSS compliant, with data encrypted and scanned daily for threats. It does not publish a guide to the in-app security screens, so labels may differ slightly between app versions.

The settings, one by one

1. Lock the phone itself

Everything else rests on this. Use a six-digit PIN or biometrics, set the screen to lock after a short time, and hide message previews on the lock screen so codes cannot be read without opening the phone.

2. A login password nobody can guess

Avoid birthdays, phone numbers and repeated digits. Do not reuse your email or social media password. If you have ever typed it in front of someone, change it.

3. A separate transaction PIN

Your transaction PIN approves money leaving the account. Make it different from your phone PIN, your login and your card PIN. If one leaks, the others still hold. If you have forgotten it, see resetting your OPay PIN.

4. Biometric login

Fingerprint or face login means you type your password less often in public. Turn it on only if your phone's own biometrics are registered to you alone; anyone whose fingerprint is saved on the phone can open the app.

5. Alerts

Keep transaction notifications on so you see every debit as it happens. Whether SMS alerts cost anything is covered in does OPay charge for SMS alerts.

6. Save the lock codes

OPay lists *955*131# and *955*132# to lock your account or card if your phone is stolen or misplaced. Write them down somewhere you can reach without the phone, such as a card in your wallet or a note at home that a family member can find, with the app and card line, 0700 8888 328 or 020 18888 328.

Habits no setting can replace

  • Never share your PIN, password or any one-time code. A caller who asks for them is not OPay.
  • Contact OPay only through the app or the numbers on its website. Fake 'customer care' accounts reply to complaints on social media; see fake bank customer care.
  • Install OPay only from the official app store listing; do not install app files sent by anyone.
  • Do not let a POS agent or shop attendant type your card PIN.
  • Be alert to SIM problems: if your phone suddenly loses signal for no reason, call your network. See SIM swap fraud.

A five-minute monthly check

Settings drift: phones get replaced, fingerprints of family members get added, and old devices stay logged in. Once a month, run through this list:

  1. Scroll through last month's transaction history and confirm you recognise every debit, including small ones, which fraudsters sometimes use to test an account.
  2. Check that push notifications for OPay are still allowed in your phone's settings; a system update can switch them off.
  3. Look at which fingerprints or faces are registered on your phone, and remove any that are not yours.
  4. Make sure your email and phone number on the account are current, since they are used to reach you about security.
  5. If you have changed phones, make sure OPay is not still installed and logged in on the old one before you sell or give it away.

Shared or family phones

If a child or relative uses your phone, biometric login is only safe when their fingerprint or face is not registered on it. Keep the transaction PIN private even from family, and log out of OPay before handing the phone over. A separate, inexpensive phone for a child is often safer than sharing yours.

If something already looks wrong

  1. Lock the account with *955*131# or *955*132#, or call 0700 8888 328.
  2. Change your login password and transaction PIN from a phone you trust.
  3. Check your transaction history and report anything you did not do; see OPay account hacked.
  4. If OPay does not acknowledge your complaint within three days, the CBN's complaint guide lets you write to its Consumer Protection Department at cpd@cbn.gov.ng.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme uses an authenticator app instead of SMS codes, plus a transaction PIN, so a stolen SIM alone cannot approve a payment. See Pryme security and authenticator app vs SMS codes.

Questions people ask

How do I secure my OPay account?

Lock your phone, use a strong login password and a separate transaction PIN, turn on biometric login, keep alerts on, and save the lock codes *955*131# and *955*132#.

How do I block my OPay account?

Dial *955*131# or *955*132#, which OPay lists for locking the account or card if your phone is lost or stolen, or call 0700 8888 328.

Is fingerprint login on OPay safe?

It is safer than typing your password in public, as long as only your own fingerprints or face are registered on the phone.

Will OPay ever ask for my PIN?

No legitimate support process needs your PIN, password or one-time code. Anyone asking is attempting fraud.
