Ten years, one trunk

2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Can OPay receive money from abroad? What works and what does not

OPay holds naira. Here is how money from abroad can reach an OPay account, what the sender has to choose, what you lose in conversion and what to avoid.

The short answer

OPay can receive money that arrives in Nigeria as naira: a remittance service that pays out to Nigerian bank accounts can credit your OPay account number if it lists OPay as a payout option. OPay's public website describes naira services only and does not offer a dollar, pound or euro account, so foreign currency sent to you is converted to naira before it lands, at the rate the sending service sets. You cannot receive a direct foreign-currency SWIFT payment into OPay.

The short version

OPay is a naira account. Its website (checked October 2026) describes transfers to Nigerian banks, bills, savings and a card accepted in Nigeria. It describes no foreign-currency account and no SWIFT details. So the question is not whether OPay can receive from abroad, but whether the sender's service can pay naira into your OPay account number.

RouteWorks with OPay?What happens
Remittance app or money transfer operator paying to Nigerian bank accountsYes, if OPay is in the service's list of payout banks or walletsSender pays in their currency; service converts and pays naira to your OPay number
Remittance paid to a Nigerian bank, then transferred to OPayYesYou receive at the bank, then move naira to OPay yourself
Direct SWIFT wire in dollars, pounds or euros to OPayNoOPay publishes no foreign-currency account details; the wire has nowhere to land
PayPal or a freelance platform paying 'to bank'Only if the platform pays out to Nigerian naira accounts and lists OPayCheck the platform's payout list

How the sender should set it up

  1. The sender opens their remittance service and chooses Nigeria and naira as the payout.
  2. They look for OPay in the list of banks or wallets. If it is not listed, use a traditional bank account instead.
  3. They enter your OPay account number exactly as shown in your app, and your full name as it appears on the account.
  4. They check the rate and fees shown before paying, and send you the transfer reference.
  5. You watch your OPay history for the credit and keep the reference until it arrives.

Your account number and what to give a sender are explained in OPay account number and bank name.

What you lose in conversion

Because the money arrives as naira, someone converts it on the way. The cost is usually in two places: a transfer fee shown by the sending service, and the gap between the rate it uses and the market rate. Rates change daily, so compare the naira amount you will receive, not the fee alone. Check today's rate in the sending app before each transfer.

Worked example (illustrative rates)

Example only: your sister sends £200. Service A charges a £2 fee and converts the remaining £198 at ₦2,000 per pound, delivering ₦396,000. Service B charges no fee but converts at ₦1,960 per pound, 2% lower, delivering ₦392,000 for the full £200. Service A is ₦4,000 better despite its fee. These are not real rates; compare the final naira figure each service quotes.

Our guide fees on money sent to you from abroad shows where else money goes.

What the CBN rules mean for you

Remittances into Nigeria are paid out by licensed international money transfer operators through Nigerian banks and payment institutions. How payout works, and when you can take foreign currency rather than naira, is covered in CBN rules on remittances. If you want to keep the money in dollars or pounds, an account with foreign-currency details is needed; OPay does not publish one.

Questions for the sending service

Before family or a client sends anything, the answers to these questions decide whether OPay is the right destination:

  • Does it list OPay as a payout destination for Nigeria, or only traditional banks?
  • Does it show the naira amount you will receive before the sender pays?
  • What is the fee, and is it taken from the amount sent or added on top?
  • How long does payout to a Nigerian account usually take, and what happens if the name does not match?
  • If a payment is returned, is it refunded in the sender's currency, and at what rate?

If the service cannot pay OPay, ask it to pay your traditional bank account and then move the naira to OPay yourself with a normal transfer.

Avoid these

  • People who offer to 'convert' foreign money into your OPay account through their personal account. You have no protection if the naira does not arrive.
  • Sharing your OPay login so someone abroad can 'receive for you'. Only the account number is ever needed.
  • Large first transfers. Send a small test amount first to confirm the route works.

If a remittance shows as paid but has not arrived, the sending service holds the trace; ask it for the payout reference, then raise it with OPay. See transfer to OPay not received.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local account details for each, so money can stay in the currency it arrived in. Swap converts only when you choose, with the rate shown first and the fee on its own line. See multicurrency accounts and Swap.

Questions people ask

Can I receive dollars in my OPay account?

No. OPay's public website describes a naira account only. Dollars sent to you must be converted to naira by the sending service before they can reach your OPay account number.

Can I receive money from UK to OPay?

Yes, if the sender's remittance service pays out naira to Nigerian accounts and lists OPay. The pounds are converted to naira at the service's rate.

What details do I give someone abroad to send to OPay?

Your OPay account number, OPay as the bank or wallet, and your full name as shown on the account. Never share your PIN or login.

Can OPay receive SWIFT transfers?

OPay publishes no foreign-currency account or SWIFT details, so a direct international wire cannot be received into OPay.
