Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Buying off-plan property in Abuja from the UAE: the checks

Before paying an Abuja developer from Dubai or Abu Dhabi: the title, FCTA approvals, payment stages and the documents to demand before any money moves.

The short answer

Before paying for an off-plan home in Abuja, confirm that the developer has title to the land and FCTA building approval for the design you are buying, and tie each payment to a stage you can verify. The FCTA has demolished estates built without title or against approved plans, and buyers who held only allocation papers lost out.

Off-plan means paying for a flat or house before it is built, usually in instalments, in return for a lower price than a finished unit. For a buyer in Dubai or Abu Dhabi the risk is not only that the developer is slow. The land may not belong to the developer, the building may not have FCTA approval, or the plan may change after you pay. You will not see any of this from a brochure or a site video, so the checks have to be done on paper and by someone you appoint in Abuja.

Why Abuja is different from Lagos

Buyers who know Lagos may expect a state real estate regulator to check developers for them. We found no public register of developers for the Federal Capital Territory. In Abuja, land and building control sit with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and its departments, and land records are held on AGIS, the FCT's land information system, where owners can check a plot's status and clear arrears. That puts more of the work on the buyer.

The FCTA's own enforcement shows what goes wrong. In March 2023 its Development Control director described illegal estates at Idu, Apo Tapi and Lugbe built "without any title", buyers holding fake title documents allocated by an area council, and developers changing approved plans without approval. Structures were marked for demolition and developers were made to pay demolition costs. In January 2026 the FCTA announced enforcement against unpaid ground rent, unpaid C of O fees by holders of letters of intent, and unapproved changes of land use, with revocation among the sanctions. A plot with arrears or the wrong land use can be lost even when the building is fine.

The documents to demand before you pay

  1. The developer's title to the land. A Certificate of Occupancy or a registered deed, with the plot number, so your lawyer can search it on AGIS. A letter of allocation alone is the weakest document in the chain: a property guide describes it as evidence that an allocation has started, not a registrable title.
  2. Proof the land use matches the project. Residential estates on land allocated for another use are exposed to the land-use change enforcement the FCTA announced in 2026.
  3. Ground rent and fee status. Ask for receipts, and have your lawyer confirm on AGIS that nothing is outstanding.
  4. FCTA building plan approval for the exact block and unit type you are buying, from the Development Control Department. Compare the approved drawings with the brochure.
  5. The developer's company details from the CAC register, and the names of the directors who sign your contract.
  6. A written contract of sale stating the unit, the total price, the currency, the stage payments, the completion date, what happens if completion is late, and how you get your money back if the project stops.

Payment staging that protects you

There is no official FCT schedule for off-plan stage payments, so the protection comes from the contract. Tie each payment to something your representative can see and photograph: foundation, each floor slab, roofing, finishing. Avoid paying most of the price before the structure is up. Ask for one bank account in the developer's company name, never a staff member's personal account.

A worked example

Example only. Chiamaka in Abu Dhabi agrees to buy a two-bedroom flat for ₦90,000,000. The contract splits it into a 20% deposit (₦18,000,000) on signing, 30% (₦27,000,000) when the frame and roof are complete, 30% (₦27,000,000) at internal finishing, and the final 20% (₦18,000,000) at handover with keys and documents. The four stages add up to ₦90,000,000. If the project stalls after the frame, she has paid half, not all, and her contract says how the half comes back.

Signing and checking from the UAE

  • Appoint a lawyer in Abuja who acts only for you, not the developer's in-house lawyer. Have them do the AGIS search and read the contract.
  • Use a power of attorney if someone will sign or collect documents for you. A legal guide notes that a power of attorney executed outside Nigeria must be witnessed by a notary public, judge or magistrate, and that stamping comes before registration. See signing a Nigerian power of attorney in the UAE.
  • Attest what you sign in the UAE. UAE MOFA says documents issued in the UAE for use abroad are attested by the issuing body, then MOFA, then the destination country's mission. Our guide to notarising UAE documents for Nigeria covers this.
  • Visit or send someone to the site at each payment stage, with dated photos.

For the land-title side in more depth, the Ledger's guide to title checks in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt walks through the documents.

After handover

Handover is not the end. The deed or sublease from the developer to you has to be perfected: consent, stamping and registration. The property guide cited above sets out the order: deed, consent, stamping and registration, before a bank will treat the document as security. Keep paying ground rent and any service charge on time, and keep every receipt. If you later plan to let or sell, see selling property in Nigeria while living in the UAE.

Where Pryme fits

You can pay each stage in naira from a Pryme account opened from the UAE, using Send, with the rate and fee shown before you approve. A verifiable receipt for each payment gives you a record the developer and your lawyer can check. Naira held with Pryme sits with a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, regulated by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Can I buy off-plan in Abuja while living in Dubai?

Yes, but appoint your own Abuja lawyer, search the title on AGIS and sign through a power of attorney attested for use in Nigeria.

Is a letter of allocation enough to buy from a developer?

No. It shows an allocation has started; ask for a C of O or registered deed and check it on AGIS.

How do I know if an Abuja estate is approved?

Ask for the FCTA Development Control building plan approval for your unit type and compare it with the brochure.

How should off-plan payments be staged?

Link each payment to a visible construction stage in the contract, paid to the developer's company account.
