Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Buying land in Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt: title checks

Who keeps land records in Lagos, the FCT and Rivers State, how to search a title, and the checks to complete before you pay for land in any of the three.

The short answer

Before paying for land, search the title at the registry that holds the records: the Lagos State Land Registry (with its e-GIS portal) in Lagos, Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS) in the FCT, and the Rivers State lands ministry in Port Harcourt. Confirm the Certificate of Occupancy, check the survey plan, search for court cases, and plan to obtain Governor's Consent, or the FCT Minister's equivalent, for the transfer.

Land fraud is one of the most expensive mistakes a Nigerian family can make. The same plot can be sold to several buyers, family land can be sold without the family's consent, and government-acquired land can be sold as if it were free. The basic legal framework is national, under the Land Use Act 1978, but the records and processes sit with each state, and with the FCT Administration in Abuja.

The checks that apply everywhere

Lawyers commonly recommend these steps before any purchase:

  1. Confirm what kind of land it is: private, family or community land, or land the government has acquired.
  2. Search the land registry in the state where the land sits. A typical search takes days to a couple of weeks.
  3. Check the title document, usually a Certificate of Occupancy, and that it is valid and in the seller's name or traceable to them.
  4. Verify the survey plan against the government's records, using an independent surveyor.
  5. Search the courts in that state for litigation over the land.
  6. Plan for Governor's Consent: under the Land Use Act, transfers of a statutory right of occupancy require consent. It can take months.
  7. Use a property lawyer to review documents and draft the Deed of Assignment, then register it.

Ask the seller for the title document, the survey plan, any earlier Governor's Consent, and proof of how they acquired the land.

Lagos: the Land Registry and e-GIS

In Lagos, registered land documents and records of land transactions are kept by the Lagos State Land Registry, part of the Lands Bureau. The state introduced an electronic geographic information system, the e-GIS portal, which lets users search state land data, verify information before buying and apply for titles and the Governor's approval online. A 2024 legal guide put the cost of a title search at the Lagos Land Registry at around ₦15,000 to ₦20,000; check the current fee with the registry.

Pay attention to areas with a history of acquisition or omo onile disputes, common on the fringes of Lekki, Ajah, Ikorodu and Epe.

Abuja: AGIS

In the FCT, land is administered by the FCT Administration, and Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS) manages the computerised land administration. AGIS offers property search and verification of land records, prepares and issues Certificates of Occupancy and Rights of Occupancy, and produces title deed plans. Because all FCT land is held under the Minister's authority, the consent step in Abuja runs through the FCT Administration rather than a state governor.

Be especially careful with plots in fast-growing areas such as Lugbe, Kubwa, Kuje and along the airport road, where allocation papers from area councils and FCTA titles can be confused. Ask for an AGIS search report in writing.

Port Harcourt: the Rivers State lands ministry

In Rivers State, land records sit with the state's lands ministry and registry. We could not find an official online search guide for Rivers, so instruct a Port Harcourt property lawyer to conduct the search in person and obtain a written report. Family and community land is common around the city's outskirts, so confirm that the right family heads have consented and signed.

Red flags in any city

  • A seller who pushes for full payment before searches are done, or offers a large discount for paying quickly.
  • A title document that is a photocopy only, or whose name does not match the seller's identification.
  • Survey plans that show different coordinates from the plot you were shown.
  • Family land where only one member signs, without the consent of the family head or principal members.
  • Agents who ask for payment into a personal account unrelated to the seller.
  • Plots with no access road on the survey plan, or close to rivers, canals or power lines, where setbacks can apply.

If you notice any of these, pause and ask your lawyer to explain before paying anything further.

Paying for land safely

Worked example (illustrative figures). Uche agrees to buy a plot in Ikorodu for ₦8,000,000. He pays ₦150,000 for a lawyer's search and ₦200,000 for a surveyor before paying a deposit. The search shows a pending court case, so he walks away having spent ₦350,000 rather than losing ₦8,000,000. Pay only after the searches come back clean, by bank transfer to the seller's account, against a signed receipt and agreement.

Saving for land takes time; see how to save for land, and if you are buying from abroad, building a house in Nigeria from abroad.

Where Pryme fits

A Fixed Savings Box can hold land money until your checks are complete. When you pay a deposit or instalment, generate a verifiable receipt in the Pryme app, issued with VerifyDoc.ai; the seller or a court can later confirm it is genuine and unaltered.

Questions people ask

How do I verify land in Abuja?

Request a property search and verification from AGIS, the FCT's land administration system, and instruct a lawyer and surveyor to check the documents and survey plan.

How do I check if land is under government acquisition in Lagos?

Search at the Lagos State Land Registry or use the e-GIS portal, and ask a surveyor to chart the survey plan against government records.

How much is a land search in Lagos?

A 2024 legal guide put it at around ₦15,000 to ₦20,000. Confirm the current fee with the Land Registry.

Who gives consent for land transfers in Port Harcourt?

Under the Land Use Act, consent for transferring a statutory right of occupancy is given by the state governor, here the Governor of Rivers State, through the state's lands ministry.
