Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Arab Emirates

Signing a power of attorney for Nigeria in the UAE

A POA signed abroad must be witnessed by a notary or judge, then attested in the UAE and by the Nigerian mission before it is stamped and used in Nigeria.

The short answer

A power of attorney (POA) you sign in the UAE for use in Nigeria should be signed before a notary in the UAE, attested by UAE MOFA (AED 150 for a personal POA, AED 2,000 for a commercial one), then legalised by the Nigerian Embassy or Consulate, and stamped in Nigeria before it is used. Nigerian practice requires a POA executed abroad to be witnessed by a notary public, judge or magistrate, and land POAs must also be registered.

Nigerians in Dubai and Abu Dhabi use powers of attorney to let a sibling, parent or lawyer sell land, manage rent, deal with a bank or handle a court matter at home. The document is easy to draft and easy to get wrong. A POA that is not properly witnessed, attested and stamped may be refused by a land registry, a bank or a court.

What Nigerian law expects

A guide by LawPavilion sets out the rules most practitioners follow:

  • A POA executed outside Nigeria must be witnessed by a notary public, a judge or a magistrate.
  • It attracts stamp duty under state laws, and stamping comes before registration.
  • A POA over land is registrable under the state Land Instruments Registration Law; an unregistered registrable instrument may be inadmissible as evidence of title.
  • A POA can be revoked expressly, by implication or by law, and one made by deed should be revoked by deed. A second POA does not automatically cancel the first.

The steps from the UAE

  1. Draft in Nigeria. Ask a Nigerian lawyer to draft the POA so that it names the right property, account or case and uses wording the registry or bank accepts. Write it in English; MOFA accepts English or Arabic.
  2. Sign before a UAE notary. Sign in person with your passport and Emirates ID. Do not sign in advance.
  3. Attest at UAE MOFA. MOFA's rule for documents issued inside the UAE is that the issuing entity attests first, then MOFA, then the destination country's mission. Personal POAs are AED 150 and commercial POAs AED 2,000.
  4. Legalise at the Nigerian mission. Ask the Consulate General in Dubai or the Embassy in Abu Dhabi for its legalisation fee and documents; their pages were not readable for this guide. For comparison, the Nigerian consulate in Atlanta lists $30 per document for authentication.
  5. Send the original to Nigeria by courier, keeping a scan.
  6. Stamp and, for land, register in the state where it will be used. Your lawyer handles this at the state stamp duty office and land registry.

Personal or commercial?

MOFA prices the two very differently. A POA letting your brother collect rent on your flat is personal. A POA authorising someone to act for a company you own, sign contracts or operate a corporate account is commercial. Ask MOFA's channel which category your document falls into before you pay; at AED 150 versus AED 2,000, the difference matters.

A worked example

Example only. Chidi, in Sharjah, wants his sister in Enugu to sell a plot on his behalf. His lawyer in Enugu drafts a POA. Chidi signs before a UAE notary, pays MOFA AED 150 for a personal POA, and pays the Nigerian mission's legalisation fee. He couriers the original to Enugu, where the lawyer stamps and registers it before the sale. Total UAE-side official cost: notary fee + AED 150 + mission fee, plus courier. The state stamp duty and registration costs are paid in Enugu.

Choosing the attorney and the powers

Pick someone you would trust with the asset if nothing were written down, because a POA lets them act in your name. Then limit the document to what they need. A specific POA names the property (with its survey or title details), the bank account, or the court case, and lists what the attorney may do: sign a deed of assignment, collect rent, receive sale proceeds into a named account. A general POA lets the attorney do almost anything, which is convenient and risky.

Add a clear end date or a condition for expiry, a requirement that proceeds go into an account in your own name, and a duty to account to you in writing. Your Nigerian lawyer can build these into the draft before you sign in the UAE.

Revoking a POA from the UAE

If you change your mind, the revocation follows the same path: draft it, sign before a UAE notary, attest at MOFA and the Nigerian mission, then notify the attorney and anyone relying on the POA (the registry, the bank, the buyer). Where the POA was registered, the revocation should be registered too. LawPavilion notes that a POA made by deed should be revoked by deed.

Mistakes to avoid

  • A general POA over land when a specific one would do. Narrow powers protect you.
  • Leaving out an expiry or a way to revoke it.
  • Forgetting that a revocation also needs to be done formally and, for registered land POAs, recorded.
  • Sending a scan only. Registries and banks want the original.
  • Signing while abroad on a different name spelling from your Nigerian title documents.

What to check first

  • What the receiving body (registry, bank, court) requires, in writing.
  • Whether the document is personal or commercial for MOFA.
  • The Nigerian mission's legalisation fee and opening hours.
  • Who will stamp and register it in Nigeria.

Where Pryme fits

If your attorney collects rent or sale proceeds for you, the money can be paid into your naira account. A Pryme Personal Account holds naira, dollars, pounds and euros (multicurrency), and Swap converts only when you choose, with the rate shown first.
