Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Australia

Getting a NIN for a child living in Australia

How a child in Australia gets a Nigerian NIN: licensed NIMC diaspora partners, the birth certificate, a parent's NIN, and what you should pay.

The short answer

A child in Australia enrols for a NIN through a NIMC-licensed diaspora enrolment partner, not the High Commission. NIMC's diaspora facts sheet says a child needs an original birth certificate and a parent with a NIN, and attends for biometrics with that parent. The NIN is needed for a Nigerian passport, and under the NIMC Act 2026 charging more than the prescribed fee is an offence.

A NIN used to feel optional for children abroad. It no longer is: the Nigerian passport system verifies applicants with their NIN, including children, so a child without one cannot easily get a first Nigerian passport. Here is how enrolment works from Australia.

Who enrols children abroad

NIMC does not run its own offices abroad; it licenses diaspora front-end partners. Its Diaspora Services Facts Sheet (updated April 2023) listed 31 licensed partners and warned that not every partner is active in every country, directing applicants to check NIMC's diaspora portal. Channels TV reported on 14 Aug 2025 that NIMC had upgraded its diaspora enrolment platform and required partners to activate licences on it. We could not confirm which partners are active in Australia in October 2026, so check NIMC's diaspora channel before paying anyone; the facts sheet gives diaspora@nimc.gov.ng for queries.

What a child needs

RequirementDetail
Birth certificateThe original Australian birth certificate naming the parents
Parent with a NINA parent or guardian's NIN slip; NIMC requires the parent's NIN for a minor
AttendanceThe child attends with the parent for photo and fingerprints
Proof of guardianshipOnly if a guardian, not a parent, is enrolling the child

If the parent has no NIN yet, start there; see getting a NIN in Australia. The child's NIN record is linked to the parent who enrols them, so use the parent whose own records are cleanest.

Step by step

  1. Confirm an active NIMC-licensed partner serving Australia.
  2. Complete the pre-enrolment form on the partner's or NIMC's portal; NIMC launched a pre-enrolment portal in December 2025 for applicants at home and in the diaspora, with biometric capture still in person.
  3. Pay the enrolment fee to the partner and get a receipt.
  4. Book and attend the biometric appointment with the child and the original documents.
  5. Keep the transaction slip; the NIN follows once NIMC processes the record.

What it costs

NIMC sets diaspora fees; partners collect them. The 2023 facts sheet listed US$40 for under-16 enrolment outside Africa, but NIMC has since reviewed its fees, and we could not find a current official outside-Africa child figure. Ask the partner for the fee in writing and compare it with NIMC's published schedule. The NIMC (Establishment) Act 2026 makes charging an unprescribed fee, or more than the prescribed fee, an offence carrying a fine of at least ₦500,000 or at least one year's imprisonment.

Why it matters beyond the passport

Templars' summary of the Mandatory Use of the NIN Regulations 2017 lists the transactions that require a NIN. For a child, the relevant ones include school enrolment from primary to tertiary level, registration with examination boards, birth certificates, consular services and travel documents. A child who will one day sit Nigerian exams, attend a Nigerian university or open a Nigerian bank account will need the NIN anyway; enrolling while you are organising the passport saves a second round of paperwork.

Choosing a partner safely

  • Confirm the partner through NIMC's own channel, not a social media advert.
  • Expect to attend in person for biometrics; a NIN cannot be issued from photos alone.
  • Pay only after you have the fee in writing, and keep the receipt and transaction slip.
  • Never hand over the original birth certificate to keep; it should be sighted and returned.

If you are enrolling more than one child

Book the children together with the same parent where you can, and bring each child's own original birth certificate. Siblings' records are separate: one child's error does not carry to another, but a parent's mismatched record can hold up every child linked to it. Fix the parent's record first if there is any doubt.

When the child turns 16

NIMC enrols under-16s as minors. Its February 2026 service charter lists child-to-adult migration as free. The NIN itself does not change.

Getting the details right first time

  • Use the child's names exactly as on the Australian birth certificate, in the same order you will use on the passport.
  • Check the date of birth before the partner submits. NIMC charges far more to correct a date of birth later than to enter it correctly now.
  • Make sure the parent's NIN record and passport agree, or the link between them may be queried.

For correcting a record later, see how to correct NIN details. Once the NIN is issued, the next step is usually the child's first Nigerian passport.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not issue NINs. If you are saving for your child's future trips or school in Nigeria, Savings Boxes hold naira in Nigeria, with rates shown in the app; deposits are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, regulated by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit.

Questions people ask

Can my child get a NIN in Australia?

Yes, through a NIMC-licensed diaspora enrolment partner. The child attends with a parent who has a NIN and brings the original birth certificate.

Does the Nigeria High Commission in Canberra issue NINs?

Not that we found. NIMC delivers diaspora enrolment through licensed partners, so contact a partner rather than the High Commission.

How much is a child NIN in Australia?

We could not find a current official outside-Africa child fee. Ask the partner in writing; charging above the prescribed fee is an offence under the NIMC Act 2026.

Does my child need a NIN for a Nigerian passport?

Yes. The passport portal verifies applicants, including children, with their NIN.
