Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Australia

Booking a Nigerian passport appointment online from Australia

How to apply, pay and pick Canberra on the NIS passport portal from Australia, the fees abroad, documents to upload, and the contactless option.

The short answer

Apply and pay on the NIS portal at passport.immigration.gov.ng, choosing "Apply from Outside Nigeria" and the Nigeria High Commission in Canberra as your processing office, then book the biometric appointment the portal offers. NIS lists US$150 for the 32-page and US$230 for the 64-page passport abroad, and the High Commission sees passport applicants only by appointment, Tuesday to Thursday.

Nigeria runs one passport system for applicants at home and abroad, and the High Commission in Canberra is the processing office for Nigerians in Australia. The portal does most of the work, but small mistakes at the start, a name order that does not match your NIN or a payment through an unofficial site, cause most of the delays. Here is the sequence.

Before you open the portal

  • Your NIN. The portal verifies you with your NIN and date of birth. If your NIN details are wrong, fix them first; see how to correct NIN details.
  • Your current or expired passport and a scan of its data page.
  • A digital photo to ICAO standard, which the NIS renewal page asks for.
  • A card that can pay in US dollars online, and a clear idea of which booklet you want.

Step by step on the NIS portal

  1. Go to passport.immigration.gov.ng. NIS said on 5 May 2026 that this is the sole authorised platform for passport payments at home and in the diaspora, and that payments made through other channels are at the payer's risk.
  2. Choose "Apply from Outside Nigeria", then renewal/reissue or fresh application as it applies to you.
  3. Verify your identity with your NIN and date of birth, and enter your current passport details; NIS compares them with your NIN record.
  4. Select the Nigeria High Commission, Canberra as the processing office, and choose the booklet.
  5. Upload the documents requested, then submit and pay the passport fee.
  6. Note your Application ID and Reference Number and book the biometric appointment, or opt for contactless if eligible.
  7. Print the application and payment slips and the appointment confirmation.

Fees

The NIS fee announcement of 28 Aug 2025 raised fees inside Nigeria from 1 Sep 2025 and stated that diaspora fees stayed unchanged at US$150 and US$230. The portal calculates the exact fee for your booklet and you pay what it shows.

Canberra administrative fee, contactless routeAUD 100High Commission contactless page
Contactless service fee (in the NIS app)Shown in the app; not publishedHigh Commission contactless page

Ask the High Commission whether an administrative fee also applies to in-person appointments; we found no Canberra page listing one.

The contactless option

The High Commission's contactless page describes a route for eligible renewals and reissues: after applying and paying on the portal, select "Opt-in for Contactless", download the NIS Mobile App, enter your Application ID and Reference Number under Passport Biometric Enrolment, capture your face and fingerprints with a liveness check, and pay the contactless service fee. You then post the printed form and your current passport in a self-addressed envelope to the High Commission, pay the AUD 100 administrative fee, and track the application about three weeks later at track.immigration.gov.ng or in the app.

NIS acknowledged technical problems with the contactless system on 29 Sep 2025, advising applicants to check spam folders for OTPs and to use the in-app chat for support. If the app rejects you, fall back to an appointment.

Common portal problems

  • NIN mismatch. If the portal rejects your verification, the names or date of birth on your NIN differ from what you entered. Correct the NIN record first; a passport cannot be issued in a different name.
  • Wrong processing office. Choose Canberra, not a Nigerian state office, or your file will sit in the wrong queue.
  • Payment failures. Some Australian cards decline foreign-currency online payments. Tell your bank before paying, and never retry through a site other than the NIS portal.
  • Missing OTPs. NIS advises checking spam folders and using the in-app chat for support.

After the appointment: tracking

Track progress at track.immigration.gov.ng with your Application ID and Reference Number. The High Commission's contactless page suggests checking about three weeks after submission. Ask the High Commission at your appointment how it tells applicants a passport is ready and whether it can be returned by post.

Attending in Canberra

The High Commission is at 26 Guilfoyle St, Yarralumla ACT. Its home page says the immigration section works Tuesday to Thursday, 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm, and passport applicants are seen only with an appointment. Bring printed slips, your old passport and originals of anything you uploaded. If you live in Perth, Brisbane or Darwin, read renewing from Sydney or Melbourne for planning travel to Canberra.

What to check first

  • Names and date of birth identical on the form, NIN and old passport.
  • Payment made only on the NIS portal.
  • Appointment date that leaves time before any planned trip.

Where Pryme fits

The passport fee is charged in US dollars. A Pryme account holds USD alongside naira, GBP and EUR, and Swap converts only when you choose, with the rate shown first and the fee on its own line.

Questions people ask

How much is a Nigerian passport in Australia?

NIS lists US$150 for 32 pages and US$230 for 64 pages abroad. The contactless route adds a AUD 100 High Commission fee and an in-app service fee.

Can I renew my Nigerian passport without going to Canberra?

Possibly, through the contactless route in the NIS Mobile App if you are eligible. You then post your form and old passport to the High Commission.
