Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Nigerian bank card expired while in the US: getting a new one

Your Nigerian debit card expired while you live in the US. How renewal works, collection rules, what banks charge, and alternatives while you wait.

The short answer

Most Nigerian banks renew debit cards through the app or by request, but the new card is usually collected at a branch in Nigeria, not posted abroad: FirstBank, for example, says cards are picked up and activated at the branch you select. From the US, the realistic options are to collect on your next trip, ask the bank whether a representative can collect with your authority, or use a virtual card in the meantime.

What happens when the card expires

An expired card stops working for ATM, POS and online payments, but the account behind it is untouched. Transfers, app banking and USSD continue as before. That matters because many people abroad only need the card for a few things: subscriptions billed to it, the odd online purchase in naira, or cash on visits home.

Before you request anything, check whether your bank has already produced a renewal card and is holding it at your branch. Look in the app's card section and in old emails or SMS alerts from the bank; a card that is waiting for you only needs collecting, not a new request, and requesting a second one may cancel the first.

How Nigerian banks handle renewals

Each bank sets its own process. What the banks' own pages say, as at October 2026:

BankHow to requestCollection and cost stated
FirstBankFirstMobile (Card Services, Debit Card Request), FirstOnline or a branchPickup and activation at the selected branch, Monday to Friday 9am to 2pm; ₦1,000 issuance fee when the request is completed
UBANot stated on the price listVisa Classic, dual currency and Verve issuance or replacement ₦1,000 plus 7.5% VAT, per the service charges PDF dated 11 Sept 2026
Standard Chartered NigeriaNot stated on the price listReplacement or renewal ₦1,000, per the June 2026 price guide

None of the pages we read offers international delivery of a physical card. If your bank does, it should say so on its own site or confirm in writing; ask before you rely on it.

Your options from the US

  1. Request now, collect on your next trip. Ask for the renewal through the app so the card is ready at your branch. Ask how long the branch holds uncollected cards before destroying them.
  2. Ask about collection by a representative. Some banks may release a card to someone holding your signed letter of authority and ID. This is the bank's decision; ask the branch what it accepts, and be aware the PIN process may still need you.
  3. Use a virtual card. Several Nigerian banks offer virtual cards in the app for online payments. Wema's ALAT help centre, for example, describes a virtual dollar card set up inside ALAT. A virtual card will not work at an ATM, but it covers subscriptions and online shopping.
  4. Rethink whether you need the card. If you only used it for spending on visits, a US card or a multicurrency account may serve better; see using a US debit card at a Lagos ATM.

Expired is not the same as lost

If the card has gone missing rather than simply expired, treat it differently. Report it straight away so it is blocked; Stanbic IBTC's debit card terms, for example, make the customer liable for transactions made before the loss is reported. Most banks let you block a card in the app or by USSD, and the renewal request then becomes a replacement request, which some banks price differently. An expired card that is still in your drawer carries little risk, but cut it through the chip before you throw it away.

Also list what was billed to the old card: streaming services, Nigerian utility apps, school portals. Payments to those will fail until you update the card details, and a failed payment can suspend a service you rely on at home.

If you need the card to spend dollars abroad

Naira cards carry their own limits for foreign spending, and those limits have changed often. Nairametrics reported on 7 September 2026 that banks had raised dollar spending limits on naira cards as FX supply eased, with figures that differed by bank and by channel. Check your bank's current limit in the app before you rely on a naira card in the US; for why one might be declined, see why a Nigerian dollar card is declined in the US.

What to check first

  • Has the bank already printed a renewal card for you, and where is it?
  • Can you request a renewal in the app, and which branch can you choose?
  • Who can collect it, and with what documents?
  • Do your recurring payments need updating with new card details?
  • Is your phone number and email on file still current, so the OTP for activation reaches you? See using a US phone number with a Nigerian bank.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account, opened from any country, holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local account details for each, so you can receive and pay in naira without depending on a physical Nigerian card (the multicurrency account). The app uses an authenticator app rather than SMS codes, with a transaction PIN, which helps when a Nigerian SIM is out of reach.

Questions people ask

Can a Nigerian bank send my new ATM card to the US?

None of the bank pages we read offers international card delivery. Ask your bank directly and get its answer in writing.

How much is a card renewal in Nigeria?

It varies. FirstBank states ₦1,000 on completion of the request, UBA lists ₦1,000 plus VAT, and Standard Chartered lists ₦1,000 for replacement or renewal, per their own pages in 2026.

Can my brother collect my ATM card for me?

Some banks may release a card to a representative with your written authority and ID. It is at the bank's discretion; ask the branch first.

Does my account stop working when my card expires?

No. Only the card stops working. Transfers, app banking and USSD continue.
