Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Oil vs non-oil exports in Nigeria: the share data

How much of Nigeria's exports are oil? NBS quarterly shares for crude, non-crude and non-oil exports, plus World Bank annual fuel shares from 2010 to 2025.

The short answer

Crude oil made up 74.98% of Nigeria's merchandise exports in Q2 2024 and non-oil products 10.01%, according to the NBS. On the World Bank's broader measure, fuels (crude, gas and petroleum products) were 85.9% of merchandise exports in 2025, down from 96.5% in 2016 but still dominant.

The definitions matter

Headlines often say 'non-oil exports' when they mean 'non-crude exports'. In Q2 2024 the gap was large: non-crude exports were ₦4.86 trillion (25.02%), but once liquefied natural gas, petroleum gases and other oil products are removed, non-oil exports were ₦1.94 trillion (10.01%). The NBS reported 'other oil products' exports of ₦2,915.12 billion in Q2 2024.

201587.87202391.61
201696.48202488.62
201796.03202585.90

The fuel share has stayed between 84% and 97% for sixteen years. The 2025 figure, 85.9%, is the lowest since 2012.

What makes up the non-oil side

Export group, Q2 2024 (NBS sectors)₦ billionChange vs Q2 2023
Agricultural goods973.69+246.67%
Manufactured goods480.82+126.65%
Raw materials366.91+151.96%
Solid minerals58.56+71.79%

On the World Bank's 2025 breakdown of merchandise exports, food was 6.44%, manufactures 6.06% and agricultural raw materials 0.27%. Food's share has risen from 1.8% in 2019.

NBS lists the leading agricultural exports in Q4 2023 as sesame seeds, superior-quality cocoa beans, soya beans, standard-quality cocoa beans, soya bean flour and meal, cut flowers, natural cocoa butter and cashew nuts. In Q2 2024 the most exported commodities overall were crude oil, liquefied natural gas, other petroleum gases, superior-quality cocoa beans and urea.

Why the non-oil share moves

  • Oil prices and output. When crude earnings fall, the non-oil share rises even if non-oil exports do not grow.
  • Commodity prices. Cocoa and sesame prices swing, changing agricultural export values quickly.
  • Exchange rate. Naira values of all exports rose sharply in 2024; shares remove most of that effect.
  • Policy and paperwork. Registration and export-proceeds rules shape how much non-oil trade is recorded formally; see NEPC exporter registration and Form NXP and export proceeds.

Fuel and non-fuel exports in US dollars

Applying the World Bank fuel share to its merchandise export totals gives an approximate dollar split. These are Pryme calculations, rounded, and use the World Bank's classification rather than NBS's.

YearMerchandise exports (US$ bn)Fuel exports (US$ bn, approx.)Non-fuel exports (US$ bn, approx.)
201084.0073.1910.81
2014103.1093.679.43

202355.1850.554.63
202453.3247.256.07
202555.4747.657.82

On this basis, non-fuel exports were about US$7.8 billion in 2025, up from about US$4.6 billion in 2023 but still below the 2010 level. Fuel earnings in 2025 were about half the 2014 figure, which shows how much of the swing in Nigeria's export income comes from oil prices and output rather than from the non-oil side.

Oil on the import side

Nigeria exports crude but has long imported much of its refined fuel. The World Bank's fuel share of merchandise imports shows how large that bill is.

YearFuel imports (% of merchandise imports)
201829.65
201915.52
202015.26
202130.99
202239.56
202333.42
202437.96
202533.16

In NBS data, 'other oil products' imports were ₦4,425.31 billion in Q2 2024, about 35% of all imports, and motor spirit was the most traded import commodity. Any rise in domestic refining would show up first in this line and in the 'other oil products' export line.

For anyone tracking diversification, the clearest single indicator is the NBS non-oil export value in naira alongside its share, read together with the World Bank dollar series for the same year.

How we put this together

Quarterly crude, non-crude and non-oil values and shares come from the overview sections of NBS Foreign Trade in Goods Statistics for Q4 2022, Q4 2023, Q1 2024 and Q2 2024. Sector values come from the Q2 2024 highlights. Annual fuel, food, manufactures and agricultural raw material shares come from the World Bank Indicators API. NBS and World Bank figures use different classifications and should not be mixed in one calculation. NBS's own release calendar lists later editions (Foreign Trade in Goods Statistics for Q2 2026 was scheduled for 7 September 2026), but those reports were not available in the NBS e-Library when we checked in October 2026, so this page stops at Q2 2024. We will extend it when the newer files can be retrieved. Related: Nigeria's foreign trade by quarter.

Questions people ask

What percentage of Nigeria's exports is oil?

Crude oil alone was 74.98% of exports in Q2 2024 (NBS). Including gas and petroleum products, fuels were 85.9% of merchandise exports in 2025 (World Bank).

What are Nigeria's main non-oil exports?

Cocoa beans, sesame seeds, urea, soya beans, cashew nuts and cocoa butter feature in NBS lists, along with manufactured goods.

How much did Nigeria earn from non-oil exports?

NBS put non-oil exports at ₦1,944.25 billion in Q2 2024, or 10.01% of total exports.

What is the difference between non-oil and non-crude exports?

Non-crude exports include gas and refined oil products. Non-oil exports exclude all oil and gas, so they are smaller.
