Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

Home Office data show study visas to Nigerian main applicants rising from 7,674 in 2019 to 58,722 in 2022. Including dependants, total study-route grants to Nigerians that year were 118,917, more dependants (60,195) than students. After the January 2024 change that stopped most taught-course students bringing dependants, main-applicant grants fell to 18,970 in 2024, then recovered to 30,065 in 2025.

In the year to June 2026, the Home Office reports 26,060 sponsored study visas to Nigerians, 7% of the total and the third highest of any nationality, plus 20,604 Graduate route extensions for Nigerians, also third highest. More detail is on our page on UK visas issued to Nigerians.

United States

Open Doors, published by the Institute of International Education with US State Department support, counts enrolled international students. Nigeria had 21,847 students in the US in 2024/25, up 9.1% on the year, equal to 1.9% of all international students and eighth among places of origin. It was seventh in 2022/23 and 2023/24.

2022/2317,6407
2023/2420,0297
2024/2521,8478

The long series is a reminder that the 2020s are not the first Nigerian study boom in the US: enrolment passed 18,000 in the mid-1980s before collapsing with the economic crisis later that decade.

Canada

IRCC data show new study permits for Nigerians at 6,000 to 7,500 a year until 2019, then 16,085 in 2022 and a peak of 37,460 in 2023. The figure then fell to 26,430 in 2024 and 25,335 in 2025. From January to July 2026, 11,870 permits took effect. Nigerians holding a valid study permit on 31 December 2024 numbered 45,110. See Canada permits for Nigerians for work permits and PR.

Which number to quote

  • For 'how many went this year', use visas or permits issued: UK study visas (main applicants) and Canada new study permits.
  • For 'how many are studying there now', use enrolment or permit-holder counts: Open Doors for the US, and IRCC's 31 December permit holders for Canada (45,110 Nigerians at end-2024).
  • Say whether dependants are included. UK study-route grants with dependants (36,922 in 2025) are very different from main applicants only (30,065).
  • Match the period. Open Doors uses academic years (2024/25), the Home Office often uses years ending June, and IRCC uses calendar years.

Families planning costs can also read how much money a UK student visa needs.

Put side by side, the three destinations now draw broadly similar numbers of new Nigerian students each year, at roughly 20,000 to 30,000 each. That is a change from 2022 and 2023, when the UK and then Canada pulled far ahead. In the US the rise has been steady rather than sharp, with Nigerian enrolment more than doubling between 2014/15 (9,494) and 2024/25 (21,847).

Each of these series also counts students from Nigeria who are not Nigerian citizens, or excludes Nigerians who hold another nationality, depending on how the country records applicants. For most purposes the difference is small, but it is worth stating when precision matters.

How we put this together

UK figures come from the Home Office entry clearance visa outcomes dataset (year ending June 2026 release), filtered to Nigerian nationals, study visa group, issued, by applicant type. US figures come from the two Open Doors 2025 workbooks (all places of origin and leading places of origin). Canada figures come from IRCC monthly open data on study permit holders by citizenship. Gaps: HESA enrolment data for Nigerian students at UK universities could not be retrieved for this update, so the UK column is visas, not enrolment. Other destinations, such as Ireland, Germany and Australia, are not covered.

Where Pryme fits

Students and the families paying for them often handle pounds, dollars or Canadian costs alongside naira. A Pryme account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR in one place, and any customer can generate a verifiable statement through our VerifyDoc.ai partnership that a recipient can check is genuine and unaltered. See managing study-abroad living costs and multicurrency accounts.
