Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

UK visas issued to Nigerians: Home Office data 2015 to 2026

How many UK visas Nigerians get each year by type: visitor, study, work and family, with refusals, grant rates and the 2024 and 2025 rule changes.

The short answer

The UK issued 156,539 entry clearance visas to Nigerian nationals in 2025 and 149,832 in the year to June 2026, according to Home Office data. That is about half the 2023 peak of 281,658, when study and care-worker visas surged. Visitor visas are now the largest category, at about 105,000 a year, with a grant rate of about 62%.

What changed and why

  • 2021 to 2023: the surge. Total visas issued to Nigerians rose from 106,598 in 2021 to 281,658 in 2023. Study visas (including dependants) peaked at 118,917 in 2022 and work visas at 82,325 in 2023, driven by the Health and Care Worker route.
  • 2024: the drop. Study visas fell to 27,171 and work visas to 24,464. The Home Office links the study fall to the January 2024 policy change that stopped most international students on taught courses from bringing dependants.
  • 2025 to 2026: work routes narrow further. The Home Office says overseas recruitment of care workers ended in July 2025, with further Skilled Worker changes from 22 July 2025. Work visas to Nigerians fell to 8,641 in the year to June 2026.
  • Visitor visas held up. Visitor grants rose from 92,022 in 2022 to 104,898 in 2025, and visitor visas made up about 70% of all UK visas issued to Nigerians in the year to June 2026.

Main applicants and dependants

The surge years were dominated by dependants: family members travelling with a student or worker. The split below shows why the 2024 rule changes had such a large effect.

202530,0656,8573,5018,2577,712

In the year to June 2026, the Home Office reports Nigeria as the third most common nationality for sponsored study visas, with 26,060 (7%) granted to main applicants. Nigerians also received 20,604 Graduate route extensions, the third highest of any nationality.

Roughly four in ten decided Nigerian visitor applications are refused in a typical year. Financial evidence is one of the commonly cited issues; see UK visitor visa bank statements and, for students, how much money a Nigerian student needs.

Almost all of the fall since 2023 is in work and study routes. Visitor grants in the year to June 2026 are the highest of any period in the table, which matters for anyone budgeting for UK travel: the visitor route is now the main way Nigerians enter the UK on a visa.

Students should also read about the 28-day funds rule. For where Nigerians already live in the UK and elsewhere, see Nigerians abroad by country.

Two further Home Office findings for the year to June 2026 involve Nigerians already in the UK. Nigerian, Indian and Pakistani nationals received the most Family and Private Life grants, together 42% of the total, and Nigerians received 20,604 Graduate route extensions. These are in-country decisions, so they are not part of the entry clearance table above.

Figures for the latest quarters will be revised in later Home Office releases.

How we put this together

We downloaded the Home Office entry clearance visa outcomes dataset (year ending June 2026 release), filtered nationality to Nigeria, and summed decisions by year, visa type group and case outcome. Rows marked 'All', 'Main Applicant' and 'Dependant' are summed together, as the dataset reports each visa subgroup one way or the other. Grant rates are our calculation. The headline Home Office statements on study, Graduate route and care-worker changes are quoted from the release commentary. Gaps: these are visas issued outside the UK; extensions granted inside the UK and settlement are separate tables and not included here.

Questions people ask

How many UK visas were given to Nigerians in 2025?

156,539 entry clearance visas were issued to Nigerian nationals in 2025, including 104,898 visitor visas and 36,922 study visas (with dependants).

What is the UK visa refusal rate for Nigerians?

In 2025, 75,848 applications were refused against 156,539 issued, a grant rate of about 67%. For visitor visas alone the grant rate was about 62%.

Why did UK student visas for Nigerians fall in 2024?

The Home Office links the fall to the January 2024 change that stopped most taught-course students bringing dependants. Nigerian study visas fell from 95,500 in 2023 to 27,171 in 2024.

Can Nigerians still get UK care worker visas?

The Home Office says overseas recruitment of care workers ended in July 2025. Health and Care Worker visas to Nigerians fell from 76,419 in 2023 to 7,712 in 2025.
