Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to register as an exporter with NEPC in Nigeria

What the NEPC exporter certificate is, the documents each type of business needs, and how registration fits with Form NXP and your bank.

The short answer

To export from Nigeria, you register with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council through its online e-registration portal and receive an exporter's certificate. A limited company typically uploads its CAC certificate of incorporation, certified memorandum and articles, and the current particulars of directors. Registration sits alongside your bank account, TIN and the Form NXP you register for each shipment.

What the NEPC certificate is

The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) is the federal agency that promotes non-oil exports. Registering with it gives you an exporter's certificate, which identifies your business as a registered exporter. Banks, buyers and other agencies may ask for it, and it is the starting point for NEPC programmes such as accreditation for the Export Expansion Grant.

It is one part of a set of things an exporter needs. The others include company registration, a tax identification number, an account with an authorised dealer bank and, for each shipment, a Form NXP. Our guide to Form NXP and export proceeds rules explains that step.

Documents by type of organisation

The documents depend on how your business is set up. Published guidance lists the following:

Type of organisationDocuments usually required
Limited liability companyCAC certificate of incorporation; certified true copy of memorandum and articles of association; current certified true copy of the particulars of directors (CAC Form 1.1, Section C, formerly CAC 7)
Co-operative societyCertificate of registration from the relevant state or FCT authority; the society's bye-laws
Government and non-government organisationsCAC certificate of registration; the organisation's constitution

If you trade as a registered business name rather than a limited company, check the current requirements on the NEPC portal before you apply, as the list above is for the categories in published guidance.

Registering online, step by step

  1. Gather your documents as scanned copies. Get certified true copies from the CAC where needed.
  2. Create an account on NEPC's e-registration portal and log in.
  3. Choose the category. Options include new registration, renewal, late renewal, replacement of a mutilated or lost certificate, and Export Expansion Grant accreditation.
  4. Fill the application and attach your documents on the portal.
  5. Pay any fee shown on the portal and keep the receipt.
  6. Download or collect your certificate once approved, and note when it needs renewing.

What else a new exporter needs

The NEPC certificate does not on its own let you ship. Plan for the rest of the chain:

  • Company registration and TIN. The Nigerian Ports Authority lists these as basic prerequisites for trading through the ports.
  • An authorised dealer bank. It registers your Form NXP and receives your export proceeds into an export domiciliary account.
  • Product-specific certificates. Food, agricultural and regulated products may need certificates from the relevant agencies or from the buyer's country. Ask your buyer early what their customs require.
  • A freight forwarder. Under the NPA's export steps, the forwarder obtains certificates, arranges transport to port and inspections, and books space with the shipping line.
  • Clear payment terms. See how Nigerian exporters get paid.
  • Market rules for Africa. If you sell within the continent, read AfCFTA for exporters on tariffs and rules of origin.

A worked example

Example only. Ngozi runs a limited company making shea butter products and has a first order from a distributor abroad worth US$6,000.

  • Week 1: she obtains certified copies of her memorandum and articles and directors' particulars from the CAC, and registers on the NEPC portal as a new exporter.
  • Week 2: her certificate is issued. She asks her bank to register a Form NXP for the order.
  • Week 3: her forwarder handles inspection and loading, and the bill of lading is issued. Her 90-day repatriation window starts.
  • The buyer pays a 30% deposit (US$1,800, about ₦2,700,000 at an example rate of ₦1,500 per dollar) before production and the balance against documents.

Starting registration before the first order arrives would have saved her a week. Many exporters register as soon as they decide to sell abroad, so a buyer's first order is not held up by paperwork.

Mistakes first-time exporters make

  • Waiting for a confirmed order before starting registration, then rushing documents under pressure.
  • Uploading CAC documents that are out of date, such as directors' particulars that do not show recent changes.
  • Paying a middleman for a certificate without seeing the application on the official portal in their own name.
  • Assuming the NEPC certificate covers product-specific approvals the buyer's country requires.

Keeping your registration useful

  • Diary the renewal so the certificate does not lapse in the middle of a shipment.
  • Keep your CAC records current, because a change of directors that is not filed can cause a mismatch.
  • Store the certificate with your Form NXP records so you can produce both quickly.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not register exporters or process Form NXP. For a growing export business it can help with the money that sits outside those processes, such as service income or payments from buyers for samples and marketing. A Pryme Business Account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local account details for each, and the Compliance agent can keep a calendar of renewals and deadlines for a person to act on. See the Compliance agent.

Questions people ask

Is NEPC registration compulsory for exporters in Nigeria?

Exporters are expected to register with NEPC, and banks and buyers commonly ask for the certificate. Check the current requirements on the NEPC portal.

What documents do I need for NEPC registration?

For a limited company: CAC certificate of incorporation, certified memorandum and articles, and current particulars of directors. Other organisations have their own lists.

Can I register with NEPC online?

Yes. NEPC runs an e-registration portal where you create an account, choose a category and upload your documents.

Does the NEPC certificate replace Form NXP?

No. The certificate registers you as an exporter; Form NXP is registered with your bank for each shipment.
