Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

How many driving lessons Nigerian drivers need in the UK

There is no minimum number of lessons in Great Britain and instructors set their own prices. How experienced Nigerian drivers can plan and budget.

The short answer

There is no minimum number of driving lessons in Great Britain: GOV.UK says you can take as many or as few as you need, and instructors set their own prices with no minimum or maximum. An experienced Nigerian driver often needs fewer lessons than a beginner, but most still need some, because the test checks UK routines such as roundabout lanes, mirror checks and manoeuvres. Budget by booking one assessment lesson first, then a fixed block.

"I have driven for fifteen years in Lagos. Why should I pay for lessons?" It is a fair question, and the honest answer is that the UK practical test does not test whether you can drive. It tests whether you drive the way the examiner's marking sheet expects. Nigerian drivers who fail usually do so on habits, not control of the car.

What the rules say

GOV.UK's page on driving lessons is short on numbers for a reason. It says:

  • there is no minimum number of lessons you must have
  • driving instructors set their own prices; there is no minimum or maximum price
  • you can practise with a friend or relative instead of, or as well as, an instructor, if they meet the supervisor rules

The supervisor rules are where many Nigerian families get caught. GOV.UK says an unpaid supervisor must be over 21 and must have held a full licence from the UK, the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein for 3 years. A partner who drives on a Nigerian licence does not qualify. Driving without proper supervision can lead to a fine of up to £1,000 and up to 6 penalty points, GOV.UK says.

Why experienced drivers still fail

GOV.UK says a pass means no more than 15 driving faults and no serious or dangerous faults. One serious fault ends the test as a fail. For drivers used to Nigerian roads, the faults that most often turn into serious ones are habits, for example:

  • not checking mirrors before signalling or changing speed
  • taking the wrong lane at multi-lane roundabouts
  • rolling through a junction instead of stopping where a line requires it
  • not giving way to pedestrians already crossing at a side road
  • creeping over the speed limit in 20 and 30 mph zones

None of these is about skill. They are about unlearning, and that is what a good instructor sells you.

A sensible way to plan

  1. Pass the theory test first. It costs £23 and the pass lasts 2 years (see theory test cost and pass marks).
  2. Book one assessment lesson. Tell the instructor you drove in Nigeria for X years and ask for an honest estimate of how many hours you need.
  3. Book a fixed block. Agree a number of lessons that matches the estimate, focusing on manoeuvres and the local test routes.
  4. Practise between lessons with a qualified supervisor if you have one, in an insured car.
  5. Do a mock test before the real one. If the instructor would not yet put you forward, delay the booking rather than pay to fail.

Use your 12 months on a Nigerian licence

GOV.UK says a resident with a full licence from a country such as Nigeria can drive for 12 months from becoming resident. During that period you are not a learner, so you can drive your own insured car without a supervisor. That is the cheapest practice you will get. Use it deliberately: drive the roundabouts near your local test centre, practise parking in bays and on the road, and drive in the 20 mph streets where speed creep is common. Then use paid lessons for what only an instructor can give you, which is a view of how an examiner sees your driving.

Once the 12 months end, everything changes. You need a provisional licence, L plates and a qualified supervisor for every practice drive, and the people who can supervise you shrink to those with a UK or other listed licence held for 3 years. Planning lessons so that most of your learning happens before that date saves money and stress.

How to budget

Because there is no official price and we found no official average, any hourly rate below is an illustration only. Ask three local instructors for their rates and use your own numbers.

Example (illustration only)LessonsLesson cost at £40/hourPlus practical test (£62 weekday)Total
Experienced, few habits to fix6£240£62£302
Experienced, several habits12£480£62£542
Second attempt needed12 + 4£640£124£764

The practical test fee of £62 on weekdays (£75 on evenings, weekends and bank holidays) comes from GOV.UK as at October 2026. The £40 an hour is not a market rate; it is there so the arithmetic is clear. Some instructors discount block bookings; ask what happens to prepaid lessons if you cancel.

Choosing an instructor

Before paying for a block, ask: are you an approved driving instructor (ADI), what is your pass rate in your own words, do you know the local test centre routes, and can I pay per lesson until I am sure? Keep receipts. For the total cost of the whole process, from provisional licence to insurance, see our full budget, and remember your earliest test date depends on the 185-day rule.

Where Pryme fits

Lessons are usually paid weekly in pounds. A Pryme account holds GBP with UK account details, so you can keep a driving fund apart from money set aside for family at home. Pryme's Personal Assistant can remind you of lesson payments; nothing is paid without your approval.

Questions people ask

Is there a minimum number of driving lessons in the UK?

No. GOV.UK says there is no minimum number of lessons; you take as many as you need to pass.

How much are driving lessons in the UK?

Instructors set their own prices with no official minimum or maximum. Ask several local approved instructors for their rates and block discounts.

Can my husband teach me to drive on his Nigerian licence?

No. An unpaid supervisor must be over 21 and have held a full UK, EU, Swiss, Norwegian, Icelandic or Liechtenstein licence for 3 years.

Do experienced Nigerian drivers need lessons?

Not legally, but most benefit from some. The test marks UK routines and a single serious fault is a fail.
