Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ireland

Is there a limit on sending money from Ireland to Nigeria?

We found no Irish legal ceiling on sending money to Nigeria. The limits you meet are your bank's or app's caps, and checks under Irish AML law.

The short answer

We found no Irish law that caps how much a person may send to Nigeria. The limits you will meet are set by your bank or app: AIB caps personal Internet Banking international payments at €10,000 per business day, Bank of Ireland sends anything over €10,000 through a branch, and remittance apps set limits by verification level. Larger amounts bring checks under the Criminal Justice Act 2010, and on the Nigerian side money transfer payouts arrive in naira.

Irish law regulates how payments are checked, not how much you may send. The main statute for this is the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010, as amended. It requires banks and payment firms to identify their customers and to apply due diligence before a business relationship, before an occasional transaction above set thresholds, whenever they suspect money laundering, and at any time the risk warrants it. Learnsignal's October 2026 summary of the Act gives €15,000 as the occasional-transaction threshold in most cases, with lower figures for some categories, including €1,000 for certain fund transfers under EU rules. None of these is a ceiling on what you may send. They are the points at which a firm must know more about you and the payment.

In our research we found no Irish rule that sets a maximum for personal transfers to Nigeria. If a bank or app refuses or holds a payment, the reason is its own limit or its checks, not a national cap.

Bank limits, as their pages state them

BankLimit or thresholdSource date
AIBPersonal Internet Banking international payments up to €10,000 per business day (and the preceding non-business days); larger through a branchPage undated, checked Oct 2026
Bank of IrelandApp up to €20,000 per day including fees; new payee €10,000 per banking day; transfers over €10,000 must be made in branch; over €20,000, urgent payments and unlisted countries through a branch; foreign exchange over €70,000 through TreasuryPage undated, checked Oct 2026

A branch payment has no published maximum on either page. Expect the branch to ask what the payment is for and where the money came from, and bring evidence if the sum is large.

App limits

Remittance apps set limits per transfer, per day and over rolling periods, and raise them as you verify more:

  • LemFi says limits depend on your verification level and account type, and on regional rules and bank policies. Your own limits are under Profile, Profile details, Account Limits, and the app flags when you are near one and may offer further verification. No euro figures are published.
  • Taptap Send publishes per-transfer limits by sending country on its Nigeria page and says there are no extra recipient limits in Nigeria for bank or mobile money payouts. Check the euro figure on the page on the day you send.

Limits on the Nigerian side

  • Naira payout. Techeconomy's March 2026 explainer reports a CBN circular under which, from 1 May 2026, inbound retail remittances through money transfer operators are paid in naira only.
  • Cash. The same report says naira cash pickup is allowed only up to about $200 equivalent; larger sums go to a bank account.
  • Recipient accounts. Entry-level Nigerian accounts and wallets have balance and daily limits. A large credit to a basic account can fail or be held until the recipient upgrades it.

For a big transfer, ask the recipient to confirm their account tier first. The Ledger's guide to KYC tier limits explains the levels.

Worked example: €18,000 for a land payment

Illustrative only. You hold €18,000 at AIB and want naira for a land payment in Lagos. Online, AIB's cap means at most €10,000 on one business day, so the payment would be split over two days or made at a branch in one go. Either way, expect to be asked about the purpose and source. An app may allow it only after further verification, and the naira would go to a bank account, not cash. Whichever route, the seller's account must be able to receive the full naira amount, so check its tier before you start.

Sending a large amount: steps

  1. Decide the route: a bank payment to a domiciliary account for euro or dollars, or an app for naira.
  2. Check your bank's or app's limit for that route.
  3. Gather evidence of where the money came from: payslips, savings statements or a sale contract.
  4. Confirm the recipient's account can take the amount.
  5. Send a small test payment first.
  6. Keep every confirmation and reference.

Our guides on source-of-funds requests and sending €20,000 go further.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account holds EUR and NGN together, so a large sum can arrive in euro and be converted with Swap in stages, as you choose. The app shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

How much money can I send from Ireland to Nigeria?

There is no Irish legal cap we could find. Your bank or app sets the limit, such as AIB's €10,000 per business day online.

Do I have to declare money I send to Nigeria from Ireland?

There is no declaration for a bank or app transfer, but the firm may ask about its purpose and source under the Criminal Justice Act 2010.

Why did my app refuse a large transfer?

Most likely a verification-level limit. LemFi, for example, shows your limits in the app and may offer further verification to raise them.

Can my family collect a large amount in cash?

Under the CBN naira-only policy reported for 2026, cash pickup is limited to about $200 equivalent; larger sums must go to a bank account.
