Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ireland

Setting up a monthly transfer from Ireland to Nigeria

Setting up a regular monthly send from Ireland to Nigeria: fixed euro or fixed naira, what changes each month, promo rates and a routine that holds.

The short answer

Decide first whether you are fixing the euro you send or the naira your family receives, because the euro-naira rate changes every month and only one of the two can stay the same. Then check whether your provider offers a scheduled transfer for this route; the main providers' Nigeria pages we read do not describe one, so many senders use a fixed date and a reminder instead. Expect the first-transfer promotional rate to disappear from month two.

Fixed euro or fixed naira

A monthly allowance to parents, a sibling's school fees or a caregiver's wage are all regular payments, but they behave differently. Your income in Ireland is in euro; the bills in Nigeria are in naira. Every month the rate between the two moves, so you have to choose which side stays fixed.

ApproachYou fixWhat movesSuits
Fixed euroThe euro you send, e.g. €300The naira your family receivesYour own budget is tight and predictable
Fixed nairaThe naira received, e.g. ₦450,000The euro you payA naira bill with a set amount, such as a wage or rent instalment

Worked example of rate exposure

Example only, using made-up rates. You send a fixed €300 each month. In month one the app's rate is ₦1,550 per euro, so your mother receives ₦465,000. In month two it is ₦1,500, so she receives ₦450,000, which is ₦15,000 less. If instead you fix the naira at ₦450,000, you pay about €290.32 in month one (450,000 ÷ 1,550) and €300.00 in month two (450,000 ÷ 1,500), plus any fee each time.

What changes from one month to the next

  • The rate. Remitly's Ireland-to-Nigeria page says "Any rates shown are subject to change". The rate you get is the one shown when you confirm, not the one you got last month.
  • Introductory offers. The same page describes a promotional rate for new customers, one per customer, applying to the first €500 sent. Your second month is priced at the normal rate, so do not build your budget on the first transfer.
  • Fees. Providers show the fee before you confirm and it can depend on amount and payment method; check it each time rather than assuming.
  • Speed. Remitly says delivery times vary with payment method, delivery method, transaction review and system availability. A transfer sent on the last day before a bill is due leaves no margin.
  • Limits and checks. Remitly says limits depend on your location, verification, delivery method and destination, and that additional documentation may be requested. Regular, similar amounts to the same person are easy to explain if asked.

Scheduled transfers: what is and is not offered

A true scheduled transfer converts and sends on a set date without you opening the app. On the Ireland-to-Nigeria pages we read in October 2026, Remitly and WorldRemit did not mention scheduled or recurring transfers, so check the app itself before assuming one exists. If your provider does offer one, read how it sets the rate: it will normally be the rate on the day the transfer runs, not a fixed rate for the year.

Where a provider offers a rate lock, read its terms. Wise's help page on guaranteed rates, for example, says the rate is held for between 2 and 48 hours depending on the currency, that if your money arrives late the live mid-market rate on receipt applies, and that if the mid-market rate moves down 5% or more before your funds arrive the transfer is cancelled and refunded. A lock covers a day or two, not a month.

A routine that works without automation

  1. Pick a fixed date a few days before the money is needed, and set a reminder.
  2. Save the recipient once in the app so the name and account number are not retyped each month.
  3. On the day, compare the rate and fee shown with last month's and note both in a simple log.
  4. Send, save the confirmation, and tell the recipient the exact naira amount to expect.
  5. Once a quarter, review whether fixed euro or fixed naira is still the right choice.

Check the receiving account can take the amount

Some Nigerian accounts have tier limits on what they can receive. Moniepoint's KYC page, for example, sets a single credit limit of ₦50,000 and a daily credit limit of ₦300,000 at Level 1, rising to unlimited credits at Level 3. A monthly allowance that fits one month can bounce the next if the amount rises. Ask the recipient to upgrade the account first; see sending to a Kuda or Moniepoint account and why SEPA cannot pay into Nigeria.

For the parent-allowance side, including how much and how often, see a monthly allowance for parents in Nigeria.

Where Pryme fits

In Pryme you can hold euro and convert with Swap when you choose; the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. Your Personal Assistant (default name Eva) can prepare the monthly payment and remind you on the day, but nothing moves without your approval (assistant). If the family at home saves part of the allowance in naira in Nigeria, a Savings Box keeps it separate from spending money.

Questions people ask

Can I set up a standing order from my Irish bank to a Nigerian account?

A SEPA standing order cannot pay a Nigerian account. You would need an international payment each time or a provider that offers scheduled transfers.

Why did my family get less naira this month?

The rate changed, or your first-transfer promotional rate ended. Remitly, for example, applies its promotional rate only to the first €500.

Is it better to send monthly or every three months?

Larger, less frequent sends may cost less in fixed fees but leave the family holding more naira. Compare the fee and rate shown for both amounts.

Can I lock a rate for every month?

Rate locks we have seen last hours or days, not months. Wise, for example, holds a guaranteed rate for 2 to 48 hours.
