Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Jobs in Makurdi and what they typically pay

Main employers in Makurdi, from the Benue civil service and universities to hospitals, banks and agro traders, with labelled pay bands and the legal floor.

The short answer

Most formal jobs in Makurdi are in the Benue State civil service, the universities (BSU and JOSTUM), the teaching and federal hospitals, banks and agricultural trading, with a large informal economy around markets and transport. The legal floor is the minimum wage: Benue pays ₦75,000 a month according to a May 2026 round-up, against a national minimum of ₦70,000, and most pay above entry level depends on qualifications and grade.

Who employs people in Makurdi

Makurdi is the Benue State capital, so government is the largest formal employer. Around it sit education, health, finance and the agricultural trade that Benue is known for.

SectorMain employersTypical roles
GovernmentBenue State ministries, departments and agencies; local governments; federal agencies with state officesAdministrative officers, accountants, engineers, drivers, clerical staff
EducationBenue State University (BSU), Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University (JOSTUM), colleges and private schoolsLecturers, technologists, administrators, teachers
HealthBenue State University Teaching Hospital, Federal Medical Centre Makurdi, private hospitalsDoctors, nurses, pharmacists, lab scientists, records staff
FinanceCommercial and microfinance bank branches, POS and agency banking networksTellers, sales officers, agents
Agro and tradeProduce aggregators, transporters, processors, market tradersBuyers, loaders, drivers, sales staff, bookkeepers
ServicesHotels, eateries, salons, telecoms and retailFront desk, cooks, stylists, sales attendants

The National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 raised the national minimum from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000 a month, with a review every three years, as SCP Law summarised in July 2024. States may pay more. Nairametrics reported in May 2026 that Benue pays ₦75,000, as at 30 April 2026.

Illustrative pay bands

These are illustrative bands to help you judge an offer, not a survey; public sector pay follows salary scales and grade levels, and private pay varies widely by employer.

Role levelIllustrative monthly gross
Entry-level state civil servantFrom the ₦75,000 state minimum, rising by grade
Graduate entry, public or private₦100,000 to ₦180,000
Shop, hotel or eatery attendant₦40,000 to ₦80,000 (small employers may be exempt from the minimum)
Bank teller or sales officer (often via outsourcing firms)₦100,000 to ₦200,000
Experienced nurse or lab scientist₦200,000 to ₦400,000
Senior professional or manager₦400,000 and above

Allowances, overtime, call duty and outsourcing arrangements can make take-home pay very different from the gross figure. Ask for the full offer in writing, including deductions for tax, pension and any health insurance.

Worked example: what an offer is really worth

An illustrative example: an offer of ₦150,000 gross. Suppose deductions (tax, the employee pension contribution and any health scheme) total ₦20,000 and getting to work costs ₦1,500 a day by keke for 22 working days, which is ₦33,000. What is left for rent, food and everything else is ₦150,000 − ₦20,000 − ₦33,000 = ₦97,000. Two offers with the same gross can leave very different amounts once commuting is counted. Use our Makurdi cost of living guide to compare.

Informal work and running your own business

Much of Makurdi's working population earns outside formal employment, in markets, transport, farming, artisan trades and small shops. Income here is irregular: good in harvest and festive months, thin in others. If that describes your work, plan with your lowest month in mind rather than your best, and keep a buffer for the slow season. Our guides on running a POS business in Makurdi and budgeting on an irregular income go into detail.

Questions to ask before you accept an offer

  • Is the job with the company itself, or through an outsourcing agency? Who pays your salary?
  • What is the gross pay, and what are the deductions for tax, pension and health insurance?
  • Are there allowances for transport, housing or call duty, and are they paid every month?
  • Is there a probation period, and does pay change after it?
  • What are the working hours and days, including weekends?
  • Will you get a written contract and a payslip every month?

Compare any offer against what the same work pays elsewhere in Makurdi by asking people already in the role, and against the cost of living in your part of town. A slightly lower salary close to home can leave you better off than a higher one with a long daily commute.

Where vacancies appear

  • Employers' own websites and notice boards: universities, hospitals and banks publish vacancies directly.
  • Benue State Government announcements for civil service recruitment.
  • National job boards and professional networks.
  • For agro and trade work, word of mouth in the markets and transport parks.

Be wary of anyone who offers a job in exchange for money. In February 2026 the British High Commission and NAPTIP warned that legitimate employers do not recruit through social media or ask for upfront payments, advice that applies at home as much as abroad. See common scams in Makurdi.

Where Pryme fits

If you get paid monthly, Savings Boxes in the Pryme app let you split your salary into rent, school and emergency money on payday (Savings Boxes), and a Personal Assistant can prepare your regular transfers and bills for approval. For a step-by-step method, read how to budget on a Nigerian salary.
