Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Is Lidya legit? Licence check and how its SME loans work

Lidya was a real business lender, not a personal loan app, and it has been reported to have left Nigeria. How to check any SME lender today.

The short answer

Lidya was a real lending company that offered short-term finance to small and medium-sized businesses, not personal loans to individuals. It has been reported to have exited the Nigerian market, and our check of the FCCPC digital money lenders register in October 2026 found no entry under the Lidya name, so treat any app or caller now using the name with caution and confirm through official registers first.

What Lidya was

Lidya built its name as an online lender to businesses rather than to salary earners. A trader, distributor or service firm applied with business details and bank statements, and the lender assessed the flow of money through the business account to decide what to offer. That made it different from the consumer loan apps most Nigerians know, which look at a single person, their phone and their BVN and offer small sums for a few weeks.

This distinction matters when you read reviews. Complaints about loan apps calling your contacts or adding charges to a ₦20,000 loan usually concern consumer lenders. A business lender works with larger sums, longer tenors and documents such as a CAC registration, so the questions to ask are different.

Is Lidya still lending in Nigeria?

Lidya has been reported to have exited Nigeria, and in October 2026 we could not find it on the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) list of approved digital money lenders. The FCCPC page lists approved firms by company name and app name; it showed a page modification date of 3 March 2026 when we checked. Absence from the list does not prove wrongdoing, because a company that has stopped lending has no reason to register, but it does mean you should not take a new loan from anyone using the Lidya name without proof of who they are.

If you still owe Lidya money

An earlier loan does not disappear when a lender leaves a market. Debts are often sold or passed to a collection firm. Before paying anyone, ask for a written statement that shows the original agreement date, the principal, interest charged and payments already made, and the account into which you should pay. Pay only into an account in the name of a company you can identify, and keep the receipt. If you are pressured or threatened, the steps in our guide to loan app harassment and your rights apply to business borrowers too.

How SME loans like Lidya’s generally work

Business lenders in Nigeria tend to follow a similar pattern, whether they are banks, microfinance banks or registered digital lenders:

  1. You open or link a business account so the lender can read your transaction history.
  2. The lender reviews inflows, outflows and how regularly money comes in, and may check credit bureau records for the business and its directors.
  3. An offer is made with an amount, a tenor and a cost. You read the agreement and accept it, or decline.
  4. Repayments are taken on set dates, often weekly or monthly, from the linked account.

Costs are quoted in different ways: a monthly rate, a flat fee for the whole term, or an annual percentage rate. These are not comparable at a glance, so convert each offer into a total naira cost. Our explainer on APR versus a flat fee walks through the conversion.

Worked example (illustrative figures only)

Suppose a lender offers a shop ₦1,000,000 for three months at an example rate of 4% a month on the original amount, plus an example processing fee of 1%.

ItemCalculationAmount
Interest₦1,000,000 × 4% × 3 months₦120,000
Processing fee₦1,000,000 × 1%₦10,000
Total repaid₦1,000,000 + ₦120,000 + ₦10,000₦1,130,000
Monthly repayment₦1,130,000 ÷ 3about ₦376,667

If the shop’s margin on stock bought with the loan is lower than the ₦130,000 total cost, the loan loses money even if every repayment is made on time.

Documents business lenders usually ask for

Expect a request for the CAC certificate and status report, the directors’ BVNs and IDs, six to twelve months of business bank statements, and sometimes invoices or contracts that show where repayment will come from. A lender that asks for none of this, yet promises a large sum, is not assessing risk in the normal way, and that is a reason to slow down rather than a convenience.

How to check any business lender today

  • CBN directory: banks and microfinance banks must hold a CBN licence. Search the CBN supervised institutions directory by name.
  • FCCPC register: digital lenders that lend through apps or online channels should appear on the FCCPC approvals list. Search by both brand name and company name.
  • CAC: the company named in your loan agreement should exist on the CAC register with the same name.
  • Paper trail: a real lender gives you a written agreement before money is paid out. No agreement, no loan.

Our guides on checking a CBN licence and checking a loan app on the FCCPC register show each search step by step.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme is not a business lender in the Lidya sense. A business with a Pryme Business Account in a supported sector can join Spaces, Pryme’s merchant network in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, and accept payments from customers using Loans on Spaces, which are lent by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank and shown in full before the customer accepts.

Questions people ask

Is Lidya still giving loans in Nigeria?

Lidya has been reported to have left the Nigerian market and we found no entry for it on the FCCPC approved digital lenders list in October 2026. Confirm any current offer through the CAC, FCCPC and CBN registers before applying.

Did Lidya give personal loans?

No. Lidya was known as a lender to businesses, assessing a company’s bank account activity, not a personal loan app for individuals.

I still owe Lidya. Who do I pay?

Ask for a written statement from whoever is collecting, showing the original loan and payments made, and pay only into an account in the name of a company you can verify. Keep every receipt.

How do I know if an SME loan company is licensed?

Search its name on the CBN supervised institutions directory if it calls itself a bank, and on the FCCPC approved digital lenders list if it lends through an app or website. Check the company exists on the CAC register too.
