Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to check a loan app is registered with the FCCPC

A step-by-step check of the FCCPC's approved lenders list, what each status means, and what to do when a loan app is missing or the names do not match.

Part of the guideCredit without a loan form: loan apps, BNPL and Spaces

The short answer

Open the FCCPC website, go to Registration of Digital Money Lenders, and open the list of approved digital money lenders. Search for both the company name and the app name, and check its status: full approval or a CBN waiver means it may lend; conditional approval no longer counts, and an app that is missing should not be used. If the lender says it is a bank or microfinance bank, confirm that with the CBN as well.

Since 2025, any company lending to consumers through an app, website or other digital channel in Nigeria must be registered with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC). Checking takes about five minutes and is the single most useful thing you can do before you borrow. This article walks through the check. For how loan apps compare with other kinds of everyday credit, see our guide to loan apps, BNPL and Spaces credit.

Why the register matters

The Digital, Electronic, Online or Non-Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations, 2025 (the DEON Regulations) require digital lenders to register with the FCCPC before they operate. Registration comes with obligations you can rely on: costs, repayment terms and fees must be fully disclosed before any transaction is completed, credit must be opt-in only, and the lender must declare that its app will not access your call logs, contacts or photos. The FCCPC can fine a company up to ₦100 million or 1% of the previous year's turnover, whichever is greater, and disqualify directors for up to five years.

An unregistered lender has made none of those commitments, and you have fewer routes to complain. The FCCPC revoked the conditional approvals of lenders that missed its 5 January 2026 compliance deadline and has removed non-compliant operators from its list.

How to check, step by step

  1. Find the legal company name. App names and company names often differ. Look in the app store listing under the developer name, and in the app's terms or privacy policy. Write down both names.
  2. Go to the FCCPC website (fccpc.gov.ng) and open the page Registration of Digital Money Lenders. Use the official site, not a list shared on social media.
  3. Open the approvals list for digital money lenders. It is a table with the company name and the names of its apps. There is a separate list for airtime and data lenders.
  4. Search the page (Ctrl+F on a computer, or Find in page on a phone) for the company name, then for the app name. Try short versions of each, because spellings vary.
  5. Check that the company and the app match. An approved company name next to a different app name does not cover the app you are using.
  6. Check the status. Full approval or a CBN waiver means the lender may operate. See the table below.
  7. If it claims to be a bank or microfinance bank, confirm the licence on the Central Bank of Nigeria's list of financial institutions as well.
  8. Keep a screenshot of what you found, with the date. It helps if you later need to complain.

What each status means

StatusWhat it meansShould you borrow?
Full approvalThe lender has met the FCCPC's registration requirements and may operate.Yes, if the terms suit you.
CBN waiverThe app belongs to a CBN-licensed institution, such as a microfinance bank, and is supervised by the CBN instead of registering as a digital lender.Yes, after confirming the licence with the CBN.
Conditional approvalA past interim status. Conditional approvals were revoked for lenders that missed the January 2026 deadline.Treat as not registered unless the lender now appears with full approval.
Watchlist or delistedThe lender is under investigation or has been removed.No.
Not listedNo record of registration.No.

When the app is missing or the names do not match

A missing app is not always a scam, but you should not borrow until the doubt is resolved. Common reasons, and what to do:

  • The app uses a trading name. Search the developer name from the app store. If that company is listed but the app is not, email the lender and ask why, and wait for a clear answer.
  • The lender says it is "processing" registration. Registration under the DEON Regulations had a fixed deadline. A lender still processing in late 2026 is not approved.
  • The lender says it is a microfinance bank. Check the CBN's list. A real MFB will appear there under its legal name.
  • The app copies a well-known brand. Clone apps use familiar logos with a different developer name. Download only the app linked from the lender's official website.

Do not rely on headlines

Reports about the register are not always accurate. In June 2026 the FCCPC publicly denied a widely shared report that it had approved 48 more loan apps, saying no new approvals had been issued while the court order was in place. Check the FCCPC's own website and official accounts rather than a news story or a list in a group chat.

Registration is the first check, not the last

An approved lender can still be the wrong lender for you. Once the name checks out, read the offer the same way you would read any loan, starting with the total naira cost. Our explainer on APR versus flat fees shows how to compare prices quoted in different ways. Then:

  • Read the full agreement before accepting. Under the Regulations, terms must be disclosed before the transaction is completed.
  • Refuse any request for access to contacts, call logs or your photo gallery. Registered lenders have declared they will not need it.
  • Check that the amount paid to you matches the amount the agreement says you are borrowing.
  • Make sure you chose to borrow. Automatic or pre-authorised lending is prohibited under the Regulations.
  • Note the complaints channel. A lender should try to resolve a complaint within 48 hours, and within 14 days where it is complex, before you escalate to the FCCPC.

If a lender is already harassing you, our article on loan app harassment and your rights covers the steps to take. For the wider picture of how digital lending is regulated, including the CBN's role, see the section on the rules in our everyday credit guide.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme's credit features, Spaces credit and Salary Advance, are Nigeria-only and are offered inside the Pryme app. The checks in this article apply to any credit you are offered, from any provider: read the full agreement, look at who provides the credit, and confirm that provider on the FCCPC's list or the CBN's list of financial institutions before you accept. For Spaces credit, the lender is Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Ltd, a CBN-licensed microfinance bank, which you can confirm on the CBN's list of financial institutions; Pryme Financial provides the technology. Questions about Pryme can go to contact.

A Spaces limit is offered based on how you run your account. You see the full agreement and choose whether to accept it before anything can be drawn, and the credit can be spent only with merchants in Pryme's Spaces ecosystem. Solid Allianze, the lender, is integrated with all of Nigeria's licensed credit bureaus, and its credit decisions draw on them. As a CBN-licensed lender, Solid Allianze's credit activity sits within Nigeria's credit-reporting system, so repaying on time helps build a credit history.

Questions people ask

Where is the list of FCCPC approved loan apps?

On the FCCPC website, under Registration of Digital Money Lenders. There is a list of approved digital money lenders, showing company names and app names, and a separate list for airtime and data lenders.

Is a loan app with conditional approval legal?

Conditional approval was an interim status. The FCCPC revoked conditional approvals for lenders that missed the 5 January 2026 deadline, so treat a lender that still describes itself as conditionally approved as unregistered unless it now appears with full approval.

Do microfinance bank loan apps need FCCPC registration?

A loan app owned by a CBN-licensed institution, such as a microfinance bank, can hold a waiver instead of full registration, because the CBN supervises it. Confirm the bank's licence on the CBN's list of financial institutions.

Are the FCCPC digital lending rules still in force?

Yes, as of October 2026. A court paused enforcement in April 2026, but on 20 July 2026 the Federal High Court upheld the Regulations and the FCCPC resumed enforcement. An appeal has been filed, so check the FCCPC's website for changes.

What should I do if a loan app is not on the FCCPC list?

Do not borrow from it. If you already have a loan with it, keep records, repay only what your agreement says to the lender's official account, and report it to the FCCPC through its complaints portal.
