Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ikeja Electric prepaid meter: how to apply and what it costs

How to apply for an Ikeja Electric prepaid meter through the Meter Asset Provider route, what each step involves, and where the current meter price is set.

The short answer

Ikeja Electric customers get prepaid meters mainly through the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) route, which Ikeja Electric promotes on its website under MAPs registration: you register, your account and premises are verified, you pay for the meter, and a MAP installs it. The meter price is set by the regulator for single-phase and three-phase meters and can change, so confirm the current figure on Ikeja Electric's MAP registration page or with the regulator before you pay.

How the MAP route works

Under the Meter Asset Provider scheme, licensed meter providers supply and install meters for DisCo customers, and the DisCo registers the meter on the customer's account. Ikeja Electric's website carries a MAPs registration section and a to-do guide, along with frequently asked questions about the meter asset. The national background is covered in getting a prepaid meter under the MAP scheme.

Steps: applying for an Ikeja Electric prepaid meter

  1. Find your account number. If you are postpaid, it is on your bill; see finding your Ikeja Electric account number.
  2. Go to the MAPs registration section on Ikeja Electric's official website and follow the to-do guide. Use only the official site, not a link sent by a stranger.
  3. Enter your account and contact details, and the details of the premises. Expect to provide identification and to confirm the address.
  4. Choose single-phase or three-phase as the application asks. Most flats use single-phase; ask Ikeja Electric if you are unsure.
  5. Ikeja Electric or the MAP may survey the premises to confirm the meter type and position.
  6. Pay for the meter through the channel the official process gives you. Pay only into the official account named in the process and keep the receipt.
  7. The MAP installs the meter and it is registered on your account.
  8. Buy your first token and check the band and tariff class on the receipt.

Before you start: what to have ready

  • Your Ikeja Electric account number and a recent bill.
  • A valid means of identification and a working phone number and email address, since updates are usually sent there.
  • Proof that you own or occupy the premises. Tenants should tell the landlord before applying, because the meter will be fixed to the building and the landlord may want a say in where it goes.
  • A rough idea of your load, so you can say whether you need single-phase or three-phase. Several air conditioners, a borehole pump or heavy equipment may point to three-phase.
  • Clear access to the point where the meter will be installed on the day of installation.

If several flats share one meter today, ask whether each flat can apply for its own. Separate meters remove arguments over shared bills and make each tenant responsible only for their own use.

What a meter costs

This page does not print the meter price, because it is set by the regulator and can change. The figure you pay should match the current approved price for your meter type, single-phase or three-phase, plus any VAT the approval includes. To check it:

  • Read the price shown in Ikeja Electric's MAPs registration process before you pay.
  • Check the regulator. NERC set the national metering framework; under LASERC's order, reported on 11 June 2025, national rules on metering stay binding on Lagos licensees until LASERC amends or replaces them. Check NERC's site and LASERC for the current approved price.
  • If the price you are quoted differs from the approved price, ask Ikeja Electric to explain in writing before paying.

Is the meter cost refunded?

Arrangements for refunding meter costs through energy credits have differed between programmes over the years. We could not confirm what applies to new Ikeja Electric applications today, so ask Ikeja Electric whether your payment will be credited back against energy, and get the answer in writing.

Why switch from estimated billing

If you are an unmetered postpaid customer, you are billed on an estimate. A meter means you pay for what you use. NERC publishes monthly energy caps on its website (the September 2026 caps were posted on 1 September 2026), and our estimated billing guide explains how caps relate to unmetered bills. See estimated bills and your rights. If you are moving to prepaid with an outstanding postpaid balance, ask how that balance will be recovered, since it may be taken from your tokens.

If the application stalls

Keep your application and payment references. If installation does not happen within the time Ikeja Electric gives you, follow up, then escalate. NERC's published route is the DisCo, then the Forum office, then the regulator, with the later steps going to the state regulator where one exists; for Lagos that is LASERC.

Where Pryme fits

Once your meter is in, you can buy tokens through electricity bills in the Pryme app. If you are setting aside money for the meter, a Flexible Savings Box keeps it separate from everyday spending.

Questions people ask

How do I apply for a prepaid meter from Ikeja Electric?

How much is prepaid meter in Ikeja Electric now?

The price is set by the regulator for single-phase and three-phase meters and can change. Check the figure in Ikeja Electric's MAP process and with the regulator before you pay.

Will Ikeja Electric refund my meter money?
