Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ikeja Electric app not working: other ways to buy a token

When Ikeja Electric's app or portal is down: bank apps, bank USSD, other vendors and agents, plus how to retrieve a token you already paid for.

The short answer

If Ikeja Electric's app or web portal is down, you can still buy a prepaid token through your bank's app, your bank's USSD bills menu (Unity Bank, for example, lists *7799*5*meter number*amount# for Ikeja), another licensed vending app or a POS agent. If you paid and the token did not arrive, do not pay again: retrieve it from the channel's transaction history, then contact that channel or Ikeja Electric with the reference.

A DisCo's own app is only one of many doors into its vending system. When it is down, the other doors usually still work, because banks, payment companies and agents connect to the vending platform directly. The two things to get right are using a channel you trust and not paying twice for the same units.

First: did you already pay?

Apps often fail at the worst moment, after the debit and before the token appears. Before you try another channel, check your bank alerts or card statement. If money left your account:

  1. Note the amount, time and transaction reference from the debit alert.
  2. Re-open the app later and look in its transaction or purchase history. Many apps show the token there once the system catches up.
  3. Check your email and SMS, including spam folders, for a token message.
  4. If nothing appears after a reasonable wait, contact Ikeja Electric customer care with your meter number, the amount, the date and the reference, and ask for the token to be retrieved or the payment confirmed.
  5. Only buy again through another channel if you need light now, and keep both references so the first payment can be traced.

Other ways to buy an Ikeja Electric token

ChannelHow it worksWhat to watch
Your bank's mobile appBills or Electricity menu, choose Ikeja Electric, enter meter number and amountCheck the name shown matches your meter; note any fee line
Bank USSDDial your bank's code and use its bills or electricity optionWorks without data; session time-outs can leave you debited without an SMS
Other vending appsPayment and fintech apps with a bills sectionUse apps you already trust; save your meter number as a beneficiary
POS agents and shopsAgent buys on your behalf and prints or texts the tokenAsk for the printed receipt; check the meter number on it before you leave
Ikeja Electric officesWalk-in help at a business unit officeUseful when you also need the account checked

A bank USSD example

Unity Bank's *7799# page lists electricity codes for Lagos DisCos: *7799*5*meter number*amount# for Ikeja and *7799*4*meter number*amount# for Eko. The same page lists *7799*5# for BVN, so read the screen carefully before confirming. Polaris Bank's *833*2# bills menu, as at its September 2023 page, covers electricity among other bills. Other banks have their own menus; check your bank's help page for the current string.

Choosing a fallback channel safely

  • Use only channels you reach yourself: your bank's own app, a code printed on your bank's website, or an agent you know. Do not use links sent in unsolicited messages offering cheap units.
  • Confirm the customer name the channel shows before paying. If the name is wrong, stop: the meter number is wrong.
  • Keep the receipt or SMS until the units are on your meter.
  • Expect fees to differ between channels; the fee line before you confirm tells you.

Set up a backup before you need it

Outages of payment apps are rarely announced in advance, and they tend to bite on a Sunday night with the meter on its last unit. A little preparation means you are never stuck:

  • Save your meter number in at least two places: your bank app and one other app or your phone notes.
  • Learn your bank's USSD bills route once, while things are working, so you are not reading menus in the dark.
  • Top up before the meter runs low rather than at zero. Our guide to budgeting for electricity in Lagos helps you set a rhythm.
  • Keep a nearby agent's number for emergencies.

If the token arrives but will not load

That is a different problem from the app being down. Compare the meter number on the receipt with your meter, retype the token slowly once, and check your credit. Our guide to Ikeja Electric tokens that will not load takes you through the causes, and electricity token not loading covers the general fixes.

Who to contact

For a payment that went through but produced no token, the first contact is the channel you paid through, because it holds the transaction record. If it says the payment reached Ikeja Electric, take the reference to Ikeja Electric's customer care; our guide to Ikeja Electric's contact channels lists the published numbers. Lagos electricity regulation passed from NERC to the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC) under an order NERC announced in December 2024, so unresolved complaints in Lagos go through the route described in electricity complaints in Lagos.

Where Pryme fits

The Pryme app sells electricity tokens through Bills; check that Ikeja Electric is listed for your meter. Each purchase stays in your history, so the token can be found again if a message goes astray.

Questions people ask

Ikeja Electric app not working, how do I buy token?

Use your bank's app or USSD bills menu, another trusted vending app, or a POS agent. A token from any licensed channel works the same on your meter.

What is the USSD code to buy Ikeja Electric token?

There is no single code; it depends on your bank. Unity Bank's page lists *7799*5*meter number*amount# for Ikeja. Check your own bank's current code.

I paid for IE token but did not receive it, what should I do?

Do not pay again straight away. Check the app history, email and SMS, then contact the channel you paid through with the reference, and Ikeja Electric if the payment reached them.

Can I buy Ikeja Electric token at a POS agent?

Yes, many agents sell tokens. Ask for a printed receipt and check the meter number on it before you leave.
